Book excerpt: This is a book about the work I have been doing with horses over the last thirteen years. I believe that the healing work I do with horses is a gift, it comes naturally. I have been asked so many times to explain how this kind of communication, this kind of healing works: Can anyone do this? Are you talking to the horse? Are you a horse whisperer? Are you a shaman? So the idea grew of writing a book that would be entertaining, and informing, which would have general appeal: The case histories I offer in this book are unembellished. That's how they happened! In the book I make mention of a belief I hold, which is that a healing can occur in the simplest way: simply by recognizing the suffering of another living being, and just for a moment, sharing that suffering... My role is to simply witness the unfolding of that memory, that trauma. This is often enough to effect healing, releasing of what has been held inside, and what is holding back that creature of God from fully enjoying its life.

Book She Flies Without Wings

Download or read book She Flies Without Wings written by Mary D. Midkiff and published by Delta. This book was released on 2008-12-10 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a renowned horsewoman and gifted storyteller comes this groundbreaking new book that explores a powerful relationship like no other: the magical kinship between women and horses. Drawing from myth and literature, the author’s own experiences, and interviews with countless women, we learn, through women’s deeply personal stories, how horses enrich our lives and connect us to nature–making us readers of rhythm and invisible signs, helping us harness our youthful sexuality, sharing the “horsepower” we need to reach our dreams. And here we see how, for thousands of years, the deep kinship between women and horses has connected us to our most intimate feelings of delight, helped us learn to solve problems, and set our creativity free. From the poetry of Geoffrey Chaucer to the fiction of Jane Austen to folktales from around the world, She Flies Without Wings uses great literature and myth to encompass a wide spectrum of beliefs and perspectives–and creates a true celebration of speed, air, and the spectacular animal that connects us with both. Filled with the moving lessons–-about sensuality, commitment, power, nurturance, and spirituality–women riders have known for centuries, written with a loving hand by an expert equestrian, She Flies Without Wings is an eloquent paean to a pairing that enlivened history, inspired literature, and continues to enchant us all.

Book excerpt: Take flight with Pippa and her winged horse in this heartfelt two-book series about a young girl who must win the hardest race in ancient Greece in order to stay with her closest friend. This new series from acclaimed author Kallie George is perfect for horse lovers and fans of Greek myths alike! High on the slopes of mighty Mount Olympus, among the sun-splashed meadows and sparkling waters, glide the winged horses of the ancient gods. Here up high is normally no place for a lost, parentless girl like Pippa. But once every hundred years, the gods and goddesses descend to the mortal realm to choose jockeys for their winged horse race—and Pippa is one of the lucky children chosen to ride. With her undersized, impetuous winged steed, Zephyr, by her side, Pippa has to confront the greatest challenge of her life: achieving victory in a race across the sky. No one expects Pippa and Zephyr to win, or even finish, this death-defying race. A poor orphan who’s spent her life working in stables, Pippa doesn’t seem to belong in the world of the gods. And while she loves Zephyr with all her heart, he’s smaller than the other winged horses racing. But if Pippa and Zephyr don’t find a way to win, the gods will separate them—forever. To stay with Zephyr, Pippa will have to work harder, train longer, and dare more bravely than her competition. In a race filled with petty, jealous gods and goddesses and a host of ruthless riders, Pippa must prove that love is greater than might. This stirring adventure series by beloved author Kallie George is perfect for fans of the Percy Jackson books and The War That Saved My Life. “I can’t wait to see what happens in the next one! If you have younger kids (or are even just a fan of middle grader books yourself) I would absolutely recommend this book.” —A Bibliophiles Book Blog

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women Without Wings is a study of the lives of three young women and their mothers who lived out their lives in a time when Vietnam standards of gentility dictated the conduct of all classes. These standards did indeed insure that women had clipped wings. Myra, Anne, and "Pet" are of marriageable age the summer they received invitations to a house party, the social event of the season. This event took the happy thoughtless days of the three teenagers to the realization they were caught within the structured world that defined their behavior and had the power to choose their life partner. As the story unfolds against the background of upper-class life in the years following the civil war, we see how circumstances begin to shape the lives of the three girls whose wings are symbolically clipped. We see each girl handling the situation differently. Myra defies, Anne manipulates the system, and "Pet" succumbs and in deteriorating health; dies. This message of mothers and daughters still resonate in a powerful way for women who, today, have wings.

Book Exploring Topics in the History and Philosophy of Logic

This book was released on 2015-09-14 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While post-Fregean logicians tend to ignore or even denigrate the traditional logic of Aristotle and the Scholastics, new work in recent years has shown the viability of a renewed, extended, and strengthened logic of terms that shares fundamental features of the old syllogistic. A number of logicians, following the lead of Fred Sommers, have built just such a term logic. It is a system of formal logic that not only matches the expressive and inferential powers of today’s standard logic, but surpasses it and is far simpler and more natural. This book aims to substantiate this claim by exhibiting just how the term logic can shed need light on a variety of challenges that face any system of formal logic.
