Book The Call to Islam da wa islamiyya

After a brief historical sketch of different forms of daʻwa, this book provides an overview of various daʻwa theologies of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as of some daʻwa organizations and different daʻwa approaches. Finally, the question is raised about the challenges that daʻwa activities of a conservative or an Islamist Islam pose for liberal and democratic societies.

Book The Call of Moses and the Exodus Story

Download or read book The Call of Moses and the Exodus Story written by Jaeyoung Jeon and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jaeyoung Jeon examines and assesses recently suggested models for the formation of the Pentateuch through a redactional-critical analysis of the Call of Moses (Exod. 3-4) and the Exodus story (Exod. 5-13). He observes that Exod. 3-4 was formed through a series of stages of Deuteronomistic composition and redaction, to which some post-Priestly additions were made. Comparative analysis suggests that the elements of Deuteronomistic formation precede P and that the direction of influence is from the non-P narrative (Exod. 3-4) to the P call narrative (Exod. 6). Jeon also shows that although some of the literary layers in Exod. 3-4 extend through the Exodus story (Exod. 5-13), the present form of the latter has been shaped by a post-Deuteronomistic but pre-Priestly composition based on an earlier proto-Exodus story. He therefore concludes that the Pentateuch or Hexateuch might be the product of a more complicated process of development than the current models describe.

Book Integrating Racial Justice Into Your High School Biology Classroom

Download or read book Integrating Racial Justice Into Your High School Biology Classroom written by David Upegui and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this guide, educators and authors David Upegui and David E. Fastovsky offer a pedagogical prescription for how you can integrate the study of racial justice with evolutionary biology in your existing high-school biology curriculum. Designed as a practical manual for teaching, the chapters focus on teaching concepts of equity through evolutionary biology modules, a cornerstone for building students’ scientific understanding of biotic diversity. The book provides pedagogical components alongside historical and scientific components, with contextual chapters that give teachers the background knowledge to understand the historical relationship between science and racism for topics such as natural selection, social justice, and American slavery and colonization. Ready-to-use lesson plans are situated in a historical and theoretical context of science as it relates to racial oppression, and demonstrate how rigorous science education can lead to your students’ liberation and personal empowerment despite the historically problematic history of some applications of science. These lesson plans and classroom exercises are presented in a way that introduces the timely extra dimension of anti-racism into the existing biology curricula without significantly increasing teaching loads. The contextual material provided allows the lessons to be implemented across a variety of classrooms regardless of initial familiarity with DEI. Ideal for secondary biology teachers and their students, particularly in grades 10-12, this book synthesizes timely ideas for high-school educators, harnessing the power of rigorous science to combat marginalization. Lessons and activities have been classroom-tested and are aligned with three different standards: Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS); College board (AP Biology); Vision and Change; and use the 5E format.

Book God s Yes Was Louder than My No

Download or read book God s Yes Was Louder than My No written by William H. Myers and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "William Myers has produced an outstanding study of the call to ministry among African American clergy. This is the broadest and deepest study of African American call stories and narratives ever written. Moving beyond the ethnographic descriptions, Myers has placed the call narratives and stories in theoretical perspective, relating them to the traditions of hermeneutics and theological reflection. Highly recommended for all students of African American religious traditions." --Lawrence H. Mamiya, Vassar College "The churches need this examination of a distinctive phenomenon of the African American religious experience to which Myers applies impressive cross-disciplinary research skills and insight. A fine contribution to black religious studies!" --Gayraud S. Wilmore, Editor, Journal of the Interdenominational Theological Center "This is a pioneering work. It attends to a central dimension of African American Christianity, the call, a topic largely neglected by theologians and religious studies scholars. Bringing multiple perspectives to bear, Myers argues that the call is not only a kind of religious hermeneutic but also a form of ritual and of narrative. Myers has a finely tuned ear for the nuances and richness of specific African American voices." --Ron Grimes, Wilfrid Laurier University

Now after being called once again to teach others about the five people in the Bible who were named for specific missions and trained by the Lord, Grant brings to light the story of Elijah, one of the five, and compares his trials with her own. Grant relies on her personal spiritual experiences to share how, through Gods wisdom, she discovered commonalities with ancient people who also faced hardships on the way to becoming prophets of nations. While highlighting Elijahs challenges and revealing her own struggles throughout childhood and her lifetime, Grant not only demonstrates how faith and Gods love have the power to bring one through darkness and into a healing light, but also provides spiritual guidance for anyone seeking to overcome hardships and accomplish great things for the Lord. The Call: Elijah the Great Prophet shares a true story of Gods love and power as a woman is called to study ancient people and discovers they have more in common than she ever realized.

Download or read book Prophet and Loss written by David E. Woolverton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-02-12 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a mission-driven leader is hard. Being a mission-driven leader who knows how to navigate the emotions of loss and grief connected to leadership is harder still. It takes a vulnerable leader to lead well—one who has faced into their own losses and can let those losses equip their character for God’s greater plans. Not all leaders are willing. Not all leaders are able. Yet, according to David Woolverton, leaders’ vulnerability to the emotional processes of grief is essential for the overall health of the organizations they lead and for the well-being—and discipleship—of those under their direction. Grief, he says, is best viewed as a mosaic, where each of our significant losses forms a constellation of tiles that, when seen together over time, helps tell a story of God’s redemptive love, grace, and mission—a story desperately needed within today’s post-pandemic angst. Using Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance) as a guide, along with five biblical prophet “mentors,” Woolverton presents five strategies to equip pastors and leaders in negotiating with their losses to attain organizational resilience, sustainability, and vibrancy.
