Book excerpt: In this inspirational and unflinchingly honest memoir, acclaimed author Reyna Grande describes her childhood torn between the United States and Mexico, and shines a light on the experiences, fears, and hopes of those who choose to make the harrowing journey across the border. Reyna Grande vividly brings to life her tumultuous early years in this “compelling...unvarnished, resonant” (BookPage) story of a childhood spent torn between two parents and two countries. As her parents make the dangerous trek across the Mexican border to “El Otro Lado” (The Other Side) in pursuit of the American dream, Reyna and her siblings are forced into the already overburdened household of their stern grandmother. When their mother at last returns, Reyna prepares for her own journey to “El Otro Lado” to live with the man who has haunted her imagination for years, her long-absent father. Funny, heartbreaking, and lyrical, The Distance Between Us poignantly captures the confusion and contradictions of childhood, reminding us that the joys and sorrows we experience are imprinted on the heart forever, calling out to us of those places we first called home. Book My Life Such As It Is

Download or read book My Life Such As It Is written by Bonnetta Carol Caraway and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08-09 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I started writing this journal, I had no intentions anyone else would even see a page of this because it had the worst of my life, and I didn't want anyone I love read it and loose respect in the person I push in public. I'm a very shy and very naive person. I am basically a loner. It is very hard for me to make friends, so I stay home a lot. Not too long ago, even in my old age, I found a very wonderful person that could see into my soul and pull me out. Diane and I have gotten to be the best of friends. Her name is Diane Wilson and she is the most wonderful, loving, caring friend I know! She listens to all my troubles and gives me advise, even though she has more than her share of troubles. She talks and I feel that I do have purpose in life. She is the sister I never had. She has so many problems, but she finds the time to be my best friend. I never liked this town--because the roll the streets up in the evening (well, it does seem like it). There aren't any places to go---nothing to see. Not for the adults--not for the kids. But, my sista-pal texts me and asks if Paul has any coffee left, or we will go out. We call that our gal-pal time. We just go to McD's and have a coke or a frape'and I tell her my troubles and she tells me her troubles. We would talk for ages, and cry in our frepe'. I would like to thank everyone for all the time they have spent making it possible for a shy, scared great grandmother to share her life----such as it is.

The good news is that “something more” does not mean “doing more.” God is not waiting for you to get your spiritual life “right.” He wants to be with you right where you are. The real question is not “What does God want from you?” but “What does God want for you?” Sharon Jaynes understands what it’s like to have a “glory ache”—a longing to experience God’s presence on a daily basis. She also knows how easily working for God can get in the way of intimacy with God. And she’s discovered that we tend to make our faith journey much too hard. In A Sudden Glory, Sharon uses Scripture and story to help you erase the line between your “spiritual life” and your “daily life” as you enter the sanctuary of God’s presence even in the middle of your busy, messy day. Here you will find your eyes opened to moments of sudden glory in which the Creator assures you of His love as you live and move and have your being in Him. Here you will discover true freedom—the freedom of experiencing God in a deeper and more intimate way than ever before. Includes Bible study and discussion guide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Letters to My Grandkids depicts the stories in the book of Genesis. The chapter letters are written in plain English and critiques to help my grandkids and others understand that our forefathers' family problems are still evident in our families today! Family issues are nothing new in the book of Genesis. Family separation in Genesis was prevalent because parents favored one child over another, there was sibling jealousy, greed among family members, and betrayal, which caused divisions in the families. Our world is suffering today because of the same problems that occurred in the book of Genesis. It is a sin to be stuck in anger toward a family member that causes division. The devil loves it! Family separation has become typical in our world. It is a crucial problem with families today. Families do not have to be separated and angry because of unresolved issues. If you say you love the Lord with all your heart and soul but hate your brother, sister, parents, and neighbors, then who do you think you are fooling? Yourselves! God said to love your neighbors, your family, and then yourself last. You will be rewarded. This book will share the stories and life problems in Genesis. God promised Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph that he would care for them and their families because they were faithful and loved unconditionally. And that promise also applies to you if you continue to be faithful like our patriarchs. This book will have you think before you decide to cause family separation. It will help you uncover past hurt and pain. It will humble your heart to forgive the ones that have hurt you!

Book excerpt: My story is about a senior in high school, named Kennedy Taylor who has to move across the United States halfway through her last year of school due to her dads job making him relocate. She had a rough time for the first few weeks, fitting in with a new set of people than what she is used to, different from her friends way back home. A few mean girls, especially Adriana who were jealous of her, made life miserable until she meets a guy named Kevin, a guy who is nice on the eyes and everyones favorite athlete. Emotional and physical pain overruns though. Adriana also happens to be Kevins ex girlfriend. Adriana has the ability to turn Kennedys life into a nightmare. Will Kevin be her night and shining armor? Will he be the guy he promises to be to her for the rest of high school, or college? What about for the rest of their lives? I am very passionate about the bullying subject; no one has the right to do so, whether its young as elementary school kids, or as old as people in college. Kennedy goes through some of the everyday pressures you have to go through during your adolescent life. She has her virginity, and her beliefs about abstinence, until she feels like she doesnt want to keep her promise to herself. She lacks the confidence she needs to make some of her dreams come true until a modeling agency likes and accepts her for her, which turns her life around forever. I do believe as the Golden Rule says, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Just like Kennedy always believed What goes around comes around.

Book How Did I Get Here

Download or read book How Did I Get Here written by Annette Smiley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of my reasons for writing this book is for me to receive healing. My vision is that people all over the world will read it and it would bring hope to someone. My desired outcome through these pages is for hearts to be touched. Maybe others could understand that after all the choices and the pain, Jesus loves them unconditionally. As I began to reach out for help to change my life, I saw life through a different lens. Because of my new view, some of the layers of pain began to fall away, and some of the walls of trust began to come down slowly. The biggest struggle has always been me desiring something more. There was a void that was missing from the inside of melove. I had never received love the way God had intended it and because of that, I had nothing to measure love by.

Book God Made Me AND You

Download or read book God Made Me AND You written by Shai Linne and published by New Growth Press. This book was released on 2018-09-17 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This beautifully illustrated children's book invites kids to explore God's design for ethnic diversity and challenges readers—both parents and children—to learn and live out counter-cultural, biblical views, fostering a lifelong celebration of diversity for the glory of God. Designed for four- to eleven-year-olds, God Made Me AND You by Shai Linne is the second book in the God Made Me series, starting with God Made All of Me by Justin and Lindsey Holcomb. Because Scripture teaches that ethnic diversity is not something that should be tolerated but rather enthusiastically embraced, Christian hip hop artist Shai Linne helps children, parents, and caregivers to celebrate this biblical truth through a lyrical, rhyming style and colorful illustrations. God Made Me AND You is an approachable guide for families to begin conversations about cultivating a God's perspective on ethnic diversity, confronting the sins of racism, bigotry, and ethnic pride. Because children learn from family members, media, or peers, parents and caretakers have a responsibility to teach their children what God has to say about the beauty of diversity in his image-bearers, with a particular focus on ethnic diversity. This colorful and compelling children's book serves as a resource and lifelong gift for children and parents, helping families understand diversity from a biblical perspective and with a clear picture of the beauty and glory of God.

Book DETERMINED MEANS Going From Victim to Victor

Download or read book DETERMINED MEANS Going From Victim to Victor written by Carol Bright and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-02-27 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Determined Means: Going from Victim to Victor speaks about demeaning and abusive behaviors in all environments and in all walks of life as it relates to all types of abuse. This book addresses the habits and mindsets of the victim, as well as the characteristics and habits of the abuser. In outlining the process of healing, the mindset and determination of the victim to survive and be successful through practicing safe measures and God’s Word are emphasized along with what “in our nature” causes us to sin. This book instructs us as individuals how to endure trauma and embrace healing and safety measures. As with any victim, they realize it becomes increasingly more difficult to trust others and hold on to sanity during times of great suffering, pain and abuse. We begin to doubt our self worth, allow others to dictate everything to us, value other peoples’ opinion over our own. These are just a few of the issues we wrestle with daily in the complexity of abuse. I struggled with all of these issues most of my life. One human being should never have control over another, especially in unhealthy ways. This book distinguishes the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, habits and boundaries and why we need to put them into place. These are the most significant barriers to healthy relationships and without them often give the perpetrator “mixed signals”. We can do all we can and still experience tragedy. As you read this book and learn the “Psychology” of our existence and creation, you will understand the need for this “real life safety net” pertinent to your life as a whole.
