Book Would You Have Shouted Heil Hitler

Download or read book Would You Have Shouted Heil Hitler written by François Roux and published by Max Milo. This book was released on 2023-12-21 with total page 887 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If a deep and lasting crisis shook our democracies, as happened to German society from 1929 to 1933, would we be able to resist the fascist temptation? On January 31, 1933, thirty-two million Germans, who had not voted Nazi woke up caught in the trap of dictatorship. How did they behave under the new power? How did they react to the suppression of freedoms, to the recruitment, to the anti-Semitic persecutions, to the march towards war? What compromises were necessary to survive? Was it possible not to collaborate with the Third Reich? Was it possible to resist it, and how? By comparing more than two hundred testimonies with the works of the greatest historians of this period, François Roux carries out a panoramic study of the history of Nazism and the Germans, from 1918 to 1946. He also forces us to challenge our preconceived notions—yes, thousands of Germans died resisting Hitler's Reich, and, no, the majority of them did not want this regime. By making us face the choices they had to make, this book gives us an intimate, almost physical understanding of the relationship between dictatorship and its subjects, and tells us a story that could one day be our own. François Roux has studied cognitive psychology. For the past twelve years, he has been exploring the mechanisms of submission and resistance of individuals and groups in situations of extreme duress. A regular contributor to the history magazine Gavroche, François Roux has published La Grande guerre inconnue ; les poilus contre l'armée française (Ed. Max Chaleil, 2006). Since 2007 he has been working as a consultant in the field of organization and management for the professional branch of the book trade.

Download or read book Film and Ethics written by Jacqui Miller and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book forms part of the multi-disciplinary Studies in Ethics Series from Liverpool Hope University. It explores the slipperiness of ethics as a concept and demonstrates the multiplicity of intellectual inquiry within contemporary Film Studies. At first glance, ‘ethics’ is not necessarily a subject conventionally associated with film. Film is often regarded as a form of ‘lowbrow’ popular culture, either offering bland entertainment or deliberately setting out to shock – or, more cynically, generate box office revenue – through gratuitous inclusion of sex and violence. Certainly, there have always been a minority of films based on the stereotypically ‘ethical’ subject of religion, but these have often generated the most controversy, from the studio system decree that it was blasphemous to represent the corporeal body of Christ to the furore surrounding Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ (1988). This book shows that from the silent era to the present day, film has been inherently concerned with ethical issues. In this light, the definition of ethics that informs the volume and is taken as the starting point of each of the chapters is the notion of personal or institutional motivation; most usually because a character or industry figure makes a decision or choice based on their own moral – or ethical – code. Once this is defined, the ethical dimension to films is immediately evident. This book takes as its central theme the difficulty of decisions refracted through personal ethical codes, and thus recognises that what counts as ethics, or morality, is always subjective. Some of the chapters explore films which take conventionally ‘good’ ethical standpoints, others investigate why ‘bad’ decisions were made; at least one explores the celebration of practices invoking popular disgust, but all the contributions study ethical decisions within film that represent the strongly felt convictions of those involved and, moreover, address aspects of filmmaking which force the spectator to be an active and reciprocal participant in the creation of meaning, thus implicitly acknowledging that ethics are subjective and in perpetual flux rather than fixed, objective truths.

Book Who Would You Be Without Your Story

Download or read book Who Would You Be Without Your Story written by Byron Katie and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of 15 dialogues that occurred throughout the United States and Europe with Byron Katie. Some of the people who worked with Katie have painful illnesses, others are lovelorn or in messy divorces. Some are simply irritated with a co-worker or worried about money. What they all have in common is a willingness to question, with Katie's help, the painful thoughts that are the true cause of their suffering. In every case we see how Katie's acute mind and fierce kindness helps each person dismantle for themselves what is felt to be unshakable reality. Although these dialogues make fascinating reading - some are both hilarious and deeply moving at once - they are intended primarily as teaching tools. Each took place in front of an audience, and Katie never lost connection with that audience, repeatedly reminding each person in the room to follow the dialogues inwardly, asking themselves the questions the participant must ask. The dialogue between Katie and these volunteers is an external enactment of precisely the kind of dialogue each person can have with their own thoughts. The results, even in the seemingly most dire situation, can be unimagined freedom and joy.

Book Would You Do That to Your Mother

Download or read book Would You Do That to Your Mother written by Jeanne Bliss and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Customer experience pioneer Jeanne Bliss shows why “Make Mom Proud” companies outperform their competition. Her 5-step guide to customer experience and culture transformation makes this achievement possible. Bliss urges companies to make business personal to earn ardent fans and admirers, by focusing on one deceptively simple question: "Would you do that to your mother?" “Make Mom Proud” companies give customers the treatment they desire, and employees the ability to deliver it. They turn “gotcha” moments into “we’ve got your back” moments by rethinking business practices, and they enable employees to be part of the solution to fix customer frustrations. Bliss scoured the marketplace seeking companies who excel at living their core values, grounded in what we all learned as kids. She offers a five-step plan for evaluating your current behaviors and implementing actions at every level of the organization. Step 1. “Be the Person I Raised You to Be” Understand how you are hiring, developing and trusting employees to bring the best version of themselves to work. Vail resorts, for example, the world's largest ski resort operator, banned the three words "Our policy is..." from their vocabulary, freeing employees to take spirited actions to deliver "the experience of a lifetime." Step 2. “Don’t Make Me Feed You Soap” Learn the eight key frustrations that bind us as customers (waiting, fear, anxiety, the black hole of no communication, etc.) and how to apply actions from companies who are delivering a seamless, frictionless and easy experience. Step 3. “Put Others Before Yourself” Determine if your focus is on helping customers achieve their goals – and evaluate how that is fueling your growth. Canada's Mayfair Diagnostics, for example, spent over a year studying the emotions of patients entering an imaging clinic, so they could redesign their welcome to deliver warmth and caring over procedure and process. The newly designed clinic achieved profitability in record time. Step 4. “Take the High Road” Learn how companies who do the right thing rise above the competition. Virgin Hotels, for example, named #1 U.S. hotel by Conde Nast Reader's Choice Awards, walked away from price gouging at the mini bar, so you'll never pay more for that Snickers bar than what you'd pay at the corner market. Step 5. “Stop the Shenanigans!” Evaluate your current company behaviors and identify the key actions that you can begin immediately. With 32 case studies and examples from more than 85 companies, this is a practical and easy to follow guide for your experience and culture transformation. Filled with comics to snapshot our experiences as customers, a “mom lens” to reflect continuously on your performance, and a “make-mom-proud-ometer” quiz – the book makes Bliss’s approach accessible and approachable. Join the movement to #MakeMomProud by applying this book across your organization. Whether you're contemplating your company's returns policy, its social media presence, or its big-picture strategy, this approach will help your company anticipate both employee and customer needs, extend patience, and show respect at all times.
