This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from What to Do First, in Accidents or Poisoning Whoever has seen how invaluable, in the presence of an accident, is the man or woman with a cool head, a steady hand, and some knowl edge of what is best to be done, will not fail to appreciate the desirability of possessing these qualifications. To have them in an emergency, one must acquire them before it arises, and it is with the hope of aiding any who wish to prepare themselves for such demands upon their own resources that the following suggestions have been put together. They are not meant to be elabo rate, but simple and practicable. They cannot take the place of calling a physician or surgeon, but may fill up with helpful action what might otherwise be a period of inaction and despair, before skilled assistance arrives. With this View I trust they may prove of some value to the public, to whom they are offered. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book What to Do Until the Doctor Comes

Download or read book What to Do Until the Doctor Comes written by Walter S. Bunn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-24 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from What to Do Until the Doctor Comes: A Manual of Instructions as to the Proper Method of Managing Cases of Poisoning, Sudden Illness, Accidents, Etc., While Awaiting the Arrival of the Physician For placing this little volume before the public the author offers no apology. The questions constantly asked during twelve years of active practice in city and country, have demonstrated to him its necessity. Some medical literature is found in almost every household, most of it practically useless, much of it positively pernicious. A treatise on The Practice of Medicine is not needed - ifor such, in the hands of persons not thoroughly skilled by reason of a long course of training and study, becomes dangerous. What is required, however, is a concise manual or hand-book containing plain instructions for the management of accidents, injuries, poison ings, sudden illness, etc., during the anxious interval that elapses - often hours in country districts, between the summoning and the arrival of the physician. Prompt action by some sensible, cool headed person would often save life could he know just what course to pursue. This in our little manual we endeavor to teach, using plain language and so arranging and indexing the subject matter as to render it instantly available. Book Forging a Poison Prevention and Control System

Download or read book Forging a Poison Prevention and Control System written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-09-16 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poisoning is a far more serious health problem in the U.S. than has generally been recognized. It is estimated that more than 4 million poisoning episodes occur annually, with approximately 300,000 cases leading to hospitalization. The field of poison prevention provides some of the most celebrated examples of successful public health interventions, yet surprisingly the current poison control "system" is little more than a loose network of poison control centers, poorly integrated into the larger spheres of public health. To increase their effectiveness, efforts to reduce poisoning need to be linked to a national agenda for public health promotion and injury prevention. Forging a Poison Prevention and Control System recommends a future poison control system with a strong public health infrastructure, a national system of regional poison control centers, federal funding to support core poison control activities, and a national poison information system to track major poisoning epidemics and possible acts of bioterrorism. This framework provides a complete "system" that could offer the best poison prevention and patient care services to meet the needs of the nation in the 21st century.

Download or read book American National Red Cross Text Book on First Aid and Relief Columns written by Charles Lynch and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-26 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from American National Red Cross d104-Book on First Aid and Relief Columns: A Manual of Instruction; How to Prevent Accidents and What to Do for Injuries and Emergencies Another novelty in the present manual is that it treats not only of first aid as given by the individual, but also of relief columns, bodies designed to administer first aid as organizations. Army conditions emphasize the necessity for the creation of organizations in order that first aid may be given with maximum efficiency, and there are many situations in civil life, such as vast concourses of people, great fires, railroad disasters, etc., which equally demand first aid organizations instead of individuals who, however well taught they may be, must, under such circumstances, work at cross purposes unless they are united into a disciplined body in which the special duties of each are carefully defined.
