Book excerpt: “Almond draws on everything from The Grapes of Wrath to the voting practices of his babysitter to dismantle the false narratives about American democracy.” —Cheryl Strayed, international-bestselling author of Wild Like a lot of Americans, Steve Almond spent the weeks after the 2016 election lying awake, in a state of dread and bewilderment. The problem wasn’t just the election, but the fact that nobody could explain, in any sort of coherent way, why America had elected a cruel, corrupt, and incompetent man to the Presidency. Bad Stories: What the Hell Just Happened to Our Country is Almond’s effort to make sense of our historical moment, to connect certain dots that go unconnected amid the deluge of hot takes and think pieces. Almond looks to literary voices—from Melville to Orwell, from Bradbury to Baldwin—to help explain the roots of our moral erosion as a people. The book argues that Trumpism is a bad outcome arising directly from the bad stories we tell ourselves. To understand how we got here, we have to confront our cultural delusions: our obsession with entertainment, sports, and political parody, the degeneration of our free press into a for-profit industry, our enduring pathologies of race, class, immigration, and tribalism. Bad Stories is a lamentation aimed at providing clarity. It’s the book you can pass along to an anguished fellow traveler with the promise, This will help you understand what the hell happened to our country. “Almond holds up literature as a guide through America’s age-old moral dilemmas and finds hope for his country in family, forgiveness, and political resistance.” —Booklist

Book excerpt: From the moment Major Bahr informed Marcus Reed of the attempt on the presidents life, Reed knew that POLI had her work cut out for her. POLI, an acronym for Personal Operating Logic Interface, is an artificial intelligent (AI) operating system developed by Logic Interface (LI). Major Bahr, along with Kate Stavey, the Director of Operations for the CIAs Langley counter-terrorism division, spearheads the investigation on the assassination attempt. Disturbing details are revealed early on in the investigation. When Reed is contacted by John McMaster, a longtime friend with a special request Reed could not refuse him, John, a priest with the Diocese, told him that he is part of a team assigned to analyze the Shroud of Turin and that during the examination, they discovered particles of blood imbedded deep within the fabric. Reed understood that if these were truly blood particles from Jesus Christ, the next (the only) logical step would be to perform DNA testing on those particles. He told John that if they get an accurate DNA reading, then POLI will be able to generate an AI image from the DNA. It wasnt long after having the particles analyzed and returned to LI that they realized something had gone unexpectedly wrong. The newly processed image had overridden POLI. Image is a novel about what happens when the government, religion, and technology collide. Events unravel as an attempt to generate an image of Jesus Christ through DNA goes awry.

Download or read book The Dream Assassin Volume 1 written by Roman Harambura and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2019-02-20 with total page 819 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Humanity’s Greatest Gift Imagination” Roman expresses that we as humans have the ability to think by thought power, as humans on this most precious Earth we each have the power within us to create through manifestation anything we choose simply by the power of our own thoughts. Roman believes we are all thinking beings that every thought we each have has the possibilities of becoming our own reality be it negative thoughts or positive thoughts which in turn creates our personal existence either in a negative way or a positive way, he says we are not in reality physical it only appears to be that way because we are so highly conditioned by our own beliefs systems, we are in fact “Living Energy” in the making of becoming “Living Consciousness”. The main reason he wrote and created his new book: “The Dream Assassin” was to show all of humanity that “Imagination” is real, and at the same time create magnificent imaginative magic that would not only bring awareness but ignite the true inner passion of every individual that reads this book, but also to see the movie when it is created in the future to come. As “Albert Einstein the great Theoretical Physicist” said on many occasions: “Reality is merely an Illusion all be it a very persistent one”. It’s like saying just because you cannot touch something doesn’t mean it is not real, because it may be vibrating simply at another level of consciousness.
