Book excerpt: Explore the Unreached Frontier of Global Mission In a world full of digital connections and globalization, a startling truth remains hidden in plain sight: countless communities have yet to hear the transformative message of the gospel. A mere fraction of global missionaries—less than 4 percent—are devoted to the unreached people groups (UPGs). This glaring disparity reveals a challenge in modern missiology. People Vision is a benchmark study of the people group paradigm that underscores its vital role in the twenty-first century. Leveraging insights from those in the Majority World, over sixty authors reexamine our understanding of people group missiology from the lens of Scripture, reflection, conversation, prayer, and case studies from field workers and church/mission leaders. Readers are equipped with the tools to navigate and overcome the barriers hindering effective mission work among UPGs and envision innovative approaches. Engage with this transformative guide and be part of a movement that redefines mission work, ensuring no people group is left behind.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Redemption and Dialogue makes available for the first time both of these vital Catholic statements, one on mission and evangelization and the other on dialogue with other faiths. It contains authoritative commentaries on both Redemptoris Missio and Dialogue and Proclamation as well as shorter critiques by an international group of Catholic and Protestant scholars. Part I, the full text of John Paul II's encyclical Redemptoris Missio is followed by a meticulous discussion of the document and its development by Marcello Zago, O.M.I. Part II then presents the full text of Dialogue and Proclamation and commentary by Jacques Dupuis, S.J. Part III provides the international assessment by Catholic and Protestant scholars of the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges of these documents. By providing the complete text of both documents and the fruits of the international discussion they spark, Redemptoris and Dialogue provides a fascinating treatment of both documents, their meanings for the church, and their significance for all concerned with issues in mission theology and interfaith dialogue.

Book To Bring the Good News to All Nations

Download or read book To Bring the Good News to All Nations written by Lauren Frances Turek and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When American evangelicals flocked to Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe in the late twentieth century to fulfill their Biblical mandate for global evangelism, their experiences abroad led them to engage more deeply in foreign policy activism at home. Lauren Frances Turek tracks these trends and illuminates the complex and significant ways in which religion shaped America's role in the late–Cold War world. In To Bring the Good News to All Nations, she examines the growth and influence of Christian foreign policy lobbying groups in the United States beginning in the 1970s, assesses the effectiveness of Christian efforts to attain foreign aid for favored regimes, and considers how those same groups promoted the imposition of economic and diplomatic sanctions on those nations that stifled evangelism. Using archival materials from both religious and government sources, To Bring the Good News to All Nations links the development of evangelical foreign policy lobbying to the overseas missionary agenda. Turek's case studies—Guatemala, South Africa, and the Soviet Union—reveal the extent of Christian influence on American foreign policy from the late 1970s through the 1990s. Evangelical policy work also reshaped the lives of Christians overseas and contributed to a reorientation of U.S. human rights policy. Efforts to promote global evangelism and support foreign brethren led activists to push Congress to grant aid to favored, yet repressive, regimes in countries such as Guatemala while imposing economic and diplomatic sanctions on nations that persecuted Christians, such as the Soviet Union. This advocacy shifted the definitions and priorities of U.S. human rights policies with lasting repercussions that can be traced into the twenty-first century.

Book The Lausanne Movement

Download or read book The Lausanne Movement written by Lars Dahle and published by Wipf and Stock. This book was released on 2014-12-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lausanne Movement has since 1974 functioned as a platform and forum for Evangelical leaders from various geographical and confessional strands. This year it will celebrate its 40th anniversary. This volume brings together voices about both The Lausanne Movement and on the Cape Town Congress in 2010. It gives a broad perspective on the development of and reflection on mission and evangelism among Evangelicals, with a particular focus on the Lausanne movement. It contains chapters about the historical, theological and missiological background and discusses key issues and concepts of Lausanne as they have emerged over the years since 1974. It offers links to and reflections on Cape Town and on Lausanne. Critical views of Cape Town and Lausanne are also included, aiming at opening up a dialogue with other views on evangelism and mission. This book illustrates the development and achievement of the Lausanne Movement for World Evangelization which is an important part of modern Christian history of mission and evangelism. I warmly recommend this collection of essays to envision the future of world evangelization. Olav Fykse Tveit, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches This book is an important one, because Lausanne matters, not only as historical moments but as an ongoing, quiet and powerful movement of God's Spirit.
