Over 90 percent of young people under sixteen with diabetes have this type. Once diagnosed, kids find it overwhelming to understand what is happening inside their body and learn how to give injections, count carbohydrates and monitor blood sugar levels. With this and other diseases and conditions in mind, Dr. Kim Chilman-Blair and Dr. Kate Hersov teamed up with a former Marvel graphic novel artist to create a series of comic books. Each comic is written by doctors and peer-reviewed by leading specialists in each respective therapy area. Medikidz is a resource designed to educate not only young patients, peers and their parents, but also to aid practitioners and educators in explaining health conditions effectively. The books follow a team of five larger than life superheroes. The Medikidz each specialise in explaining a different part of the body. Book Women Working Longer

Download or read book Women Working Longer written by Claudia Goldin and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, more American women than ever before stay in the workforce into their sixties and seventies. This trend emerged in the 1980s, and has persisted during the past three decades, despite substantial changes in macroeconomic conditions. Why is this so? Today’s older American women work full-time jobs at greater rates than women in other developed countries. In Women Working Longer, editors Claudia Goldin and Lawrence F. Katz assemble new research that presents fresh insights on the phenomenon of working longer. Their findings suggest that education and work experience earlier in life are connected to women’s later-in-life work. Other contributors to the volume investigate additional factors that may play a role in late-life labor supply, such as marital disruption, household finances, and access to retirement benefits. A pioneering study of recent trends in older women’s labor force participation, this collection offers insights valuable to a wide array of social scientists, employers, and policy makers.

Book Symposium on Development of Upper Respiratory Anatomy and Function

Download or read book Symposium on Development of Upper Respiratory Anatomy and Function written by James F. Bosma and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Symposium resulted from a linkage of interests of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Institute of Dental Research, and the Fogarty International Center. The Perinatal Biology and Infant Mortality Program of the NICHD sponsors investigations of pregnancy, maternal health, intrauterine growth and infant development. A major role is in the instigation and the support of research pertinent to the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The NIDR Section on Oral and Pharyngeal Development studies the infant performances of feeding, vocalization, and positioning, relating these to changes in local sensory resources. The FIC, through its Conference and Seminar Program, furthers international research pertinent to medicine. This conference of developmental anatomists and physiologists with clinicians concerned with the developmentally calendared entity of SIDS resulted in a productive and provocative exchange. We learned from each other and with each other. This volume is composed of chapters which were prepared after the conference, based in varying degree on the typescript of the spoken presentations. The questions and comments of the discussions were edited by the contributors and the responses by the chapter authors.
