Book Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart

Download or read book Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart written by J. D. Greear and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “If there were a Guinness Book of World Records entry for ‘amount of times having prayed the sinner’s prayer,’ I’m pretty sure I’d be a top contender,” says pastor and author J. D. Greear. He struggled for many years to gain an assurance of salvation and eventually learned he was not alone. “Lack of assurance” is epidemic among evangelical Christians. In Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart, J. D. shows that faulty ways of present- ing the gospel are a leading source of the confusion. Our presentations may not be heretical, but they are sometimes misleading. The idea of “asking Jesus into your heart” or “giving your life to Jesus” often gives false assurance to those who are not saved—and keeps those who genuinely are saved from fully embracing that reality. Greear unpacks the doctrine of assurance, showing that salvation is a posture we take to the promise of God in Christ, a posture that begins at a certain point and is maintained for the rest of our lives. He also answers the tough questions about assurance: What exactly is faith? What is repentance? Why are there so many warnings that seem to imply we can lose our salvation? Such issues are handled with respect to the theological rigors they require, but Greear never loses his pastoral sensitivity or a communication technique that makes this message teachable to a wide audience from teens to adults.

Book excerpt: Does God invite women to fully participate in all the assemblies of God?Among churches of Christ, the voices of women are typically silent and excluded from visible leadership in assemblies gathered for prayer and praise. In this book, John Mark Hicks tells the story of his own journey to understand how women have served God throughout the unfolding drama of Scripture. John Mark describes his movement from the exclusion of the voices of women and their leadership in the assembly to a limited inclusion, and finally to the full inclusion of those voices and their leadership. Along the way, he describes some of the history of churches of Christ as well as his own story but ultimately focuses on the meaning of biblical texts and how they support the full participation of women in the assemblies of God.Three women, Claire Davidson Frederick, Jantrice Johnson, and Lauren Smelser White, respond to and extend John Mark's thoughts. Bethany Joy Moore also contributes an essay from the perspective a minister's daughter who is now pursuing a graduate degree in theology.John Mark is detailed, fair, and vulnerable about his own journey and our collective journey inChurches of Christ. Download or read book What Must I Do to Be Saved written by Jack Batson and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-10-15 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many times have we heard these words across our Land? How many opinions do we have in regards to this subject? Jesus said, in Matt. 16:16, Upon this Rock I will build my church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. Jesus said he would build HIS CHURCH. The bible says in Ephesians 1: 22-23 that Christ is the head over all things to the church (not a church) which is his Body. Ephesians 4:4 says, there is one body and one spirit even as you are called in one Hope of your calling. 1 Corinthians 12:13 says for by one spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jew or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12:27 the Apostle Paul said, now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. In Galatians 1:6-7 he spoke, "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Him that called you into the Grace of Christ unto another Gospel which is not another". In Romans 1:16-17, Paul said, "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: for it is the Power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth: to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The Just shall live by faith". So, for us to receive salvation and the righteousness of God, we must hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus said, the words I speak are spirit and life. So what did Jesus preach? For this reason, this study has been put together for your benefit. If we could remove all of the labels or name brands out of our mind for a while, such as Pentecostal, Church of Christ, Church of God, Nazarene, Baptist, Methodist etc....; sit down with the Bible and see what was the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In II Corinthians 13:5, the Apostle Paul said, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? Ephesians 4:5 says, "One Lord, One Faith, One baptism". (not church group or Denominations but one Gospel) Who would you Believe to tell you how to be SAVED? How about the LORD JESUS CHRIST?
