Download or read book China s Internal and International Migration written by Li Peilin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One consequence of China’s economic growth has been a massive increase in migration, both internal and external. Within China millions of rural workers have migrated to the cities. Outside China, many Chinese have migrated to other parts of the world, their remittances home often having a significant impact within China. Also, China’s increasing links to other parts of the world have led to a growth in migration to China, most interestingly recently migration from Africa. Based on extensive original research, this book examines a wide range of issues connected to Chinese migration.

Download or read book Bird Migration across the Himalayas written by Herbert H. T. Prins and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-04-06 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Birds migrating across the Himalayan region fly over the highest peaks in the world, facing immense physiological and climatic challenges. The authors show the different strategies used by birds to cope with these challenges. Many wetland avian species are seen in the high-altitude lakes of the Himalayas and the adjoining Tibetan Plateau, such as Bar-Headed Geese. Ringing programmes have generated information about origins and destinations, and this book is the first to present information on the bird's exact migratory paths. Capitalising on knowledge generated through satellite telemetry, the authors describe the migratory routes of a multitude of birds flying over or skirting the Himalayas. The myriad of threats to migratory birds and the wetland system in the Central Asian Flyway are discussed, with ways to mitigate them. This volume will inform and persuade policy-makers and conservation practitioners to take appropriate measures for the long-term survival of this unique migration.
Download or read book The Challenge of Labour in China written by Chris King-chi Chan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2010-06-23 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China’s economic success has been founded partly on relatively cheap labour, especially in the export industries. In recent years, however, there has been growing concern about wages and labour standards in China. This book examines how wages are bargained, fought over and determined in China, by exploring how the pattern of labour conflict has changed over time since the 1970s. It focuses in particular on the city of Shenzhen where labour conflict and workers’ protests have been especially prevalent. This book includes a detailed account of the transformation of labour relations and labour policy in China more broadly during 2004 to 2009, a period when there have been significant changes in the labour market, labour regulation and labour relations. The author argues that these recent developments have brought to the fore the class basis of workers’ protest in China and have thoroughly undermined the post-Marxist analysis of identity politics. The book makes an invaluable contribution to studies on industry and labour, as well as Chinese studies.
Download or read book China and Africa in Global Context written by LI Anshan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title studies the relationship between China and Africa by reviewing this history and current state of interactions, offering a valuable addition to the often heated and contentious debate surrounding China's engagement in Africa from a Chinese angle. Comprised of four parts, the book covers a kaleidoscopic range of topics on Sino-Africa relations based on materials from different languages. The first part looks into early historical contact between China and Africa and historiography of African Studies in China in recent decades. Part Two contains a broad probe into the origin, dynamics, challenges and cultural heritage of China's policies towards Africa. The third part explores the issue of development cooperation from both the theoretical and practical point of view, with a focus on the case of Chinese medical teams in Africa and China's technology transfer to the continent. The final part illustrates bilateral migration, discussing the history and life of Chinese immigrants in Africa and the African diaspora in China. The insights in this book as well as real life case studies will make this work an indispensable reference for academics, students, policy makers and general readers who are interested in international issues and area studies, especially China-Africa relations, China's rise and African development.

Download or read book Return Migrants in Hong Kong Singapore and Israel written by Kwok-bun Chan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful volume explores the experiences of ethnic migrants returning to Hong Kong, Singapore, and Israel. Return migrants who were exposed to the western culture and society undergo personal transformations that significantly impact their views on values such as gender, individualism, democracy, tradition, and individual autonomy. To evaluate how well these individuals are able to reintegrate back into their native countries, the authors conducted a thorough comparative study between returnees in the three research sites through in-depth interviews, ethnographic fieldwork, and analyses of government policies. Among the topics discussed: Family as a strategic middle ground between the individual and society The social psychology of coping and adaptation Public, outer historical, and macro forces that shape returnees’ experiences Comparisons and contrasts between two primarily Chinese societies, along with one racially and culturally different Western society Cost-and-benefit analyses of decision-making in migration Return Migrants in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Israel is a compelling new perspective on the migrant experience drawn from in-depth research on returnees across three countries and a variety of circumstances.

Download or read book Acquisition and Application of Multimodal Sensing Information written by Xukun Yin and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-11 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the development of advanced sensors in modern science and technology, sensors have already penetrated into such fields as industrial production, space development, ocean exploration, environmental protection, medical diagnosis, biological engineering, and even cultural relic protection. Sensors are the basis of all data acquisition. Almost every modern project, from the exploration of the vast universe and ocean, to the complex engineering systems, is inseparable from a variety of sensors. Sensors convert physical parameters (e.g., temperature, pressure, humidity, speed, etc.) into signals that can be measured electrically. A high-performance sensor with the advantages of high sensitivity, high resolutions, and real-time observation is desirable. In addition, the application of computers and advanced signal processingsignal-processing methods makes sensor management possible. The use of sensing data from multiple sensors has been proven to be an efficient way to improve service experiences in different IOT IoT fields, e.g., intelligent transportation, remote sensing, smart city, and UAVs.

Download or read book Petroleum Generation Migration and Storage in Shale System written by Xiaomin Xie and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-16 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shale resource systems include conventional source rocks, unconventional resources such as shale gas and shale oil system. Regardless of the type of shale resource system, the issues of petroleum formation processes (including petroleum generation, migration and storage) are very important in petroleum evaluation and exploration. Because of the complicated and different geological settings in the world, the evaluation approaches and workflows may not be easily implemented following those from successful examples. Thus, the mechanisms of petroleum formation are fundamental for petroleum exploration and production all over in the world. The reason this special issue focuses on the shale system is because the shale system is not only the main source rock type but also the main unconventional reservoir type in the world.
