Book More Research on Veteran Employment Would Show What s Good for Business and for Veterans

Download or read book More Research on Veteran Employment Would Show What s Good for Business and for Veterans written by Caroline Batka and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The federal government and the private sector have invested in a range of initiatives to help improve employment opportunities for veterans and to support service members as they conclude their military careers and transition to the civilian workforce. However, the impact of these efforts is unclear. To date, there has been little research on their effectiveness, the experiences of veterans and their employers, or veterans' employment outcomes and satisfaction over the long term. RAND hosted two workshops that brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from federal agencies, private-sector companies, and research organizations, to collaborate and share ideas for improving veterans' employment opportunities and to identify remaining research gaps. Stakeholder discussions revealed the need for a longitudinal study of veterans' civilian career trajectories and the outcomes of subgroups, such as disabled veterans. There is also a shortage of research connecting veterans' participation in specific programs and their career outcomes, limiting the ability to identify and potentially expand or replicate successful efforts. Finally, there are many tools available to veterans who are transitioning to civilian careers, but it is unclear how well they align with veterans' interests and high-demand career fields. Understanding how veterans acquire and use this information would help programs tailor education, training, licensing, and certification processes to meet both veteran and employer needs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you a Veteran looking to land a Federal Job? Did you know you may have a preference in being hired over all non-Veteran applicants? There is a ocean of information out there on the federal hiring process. Knowing and understanding the preference eligibilities that will float your name to the top of the Certificate/Referral list thereby being the first name a Selecting Official/Hiring Manager looks at, is the most important part of the hiring process for a Veteran. This is a small but extremely important piece of application puzzle. Your name at the top of the competitive certificate/referral list guarantees you must be considered before all non-preference eligible candidates when a Hiring Manager is trying to fill a position. This book will show you how to secure the Veterans' Preference eligibilities you have earned and rightly deserve. Whether you are about to be released from active duty, retired Military, or you have been out for a while, this book will help guide you through the Veterans' Preference eligibilities piece of the application process. This is information especially helpful if you separated from the Military a while ago. I will discuss the federal hiring process, the important parts of your DD214, and I will walk you through the section of USA Jobs where Veterans' Preference is claimed. The reason you should read this book is simple. Having all this information in one place and explaining it in terms that are easy to understand, will be a tremendous advantage to you when applying to federal jobs. You having that advantage is what gives this book its value. Visit http: //www.vetpref.com for more information.
