They face unique challenges compared to their male counterparts. These challenges include: a high level of mental healthcare needs, domestic violence and sexual abuse against women in prison. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to assess the challenges female inmates face in Dessie correctional center in South Wollo zone, Amhara region, Ethiopia. To conduct this study, mixed research approach employed. The sources of data were primary; questionnaire, key informant interview and focus group discussion and secondary sources; published and unpublished materials. To accomplish the study, all women inmates were selected as sample of the study by using comprehensive sampling and key informants were selected by using purposive judgmental sampling. The obtained data was analyzed and interpreted both quantitatively and qualitatively. The study finding disclosed that, the number of women prisoners is increasing from time to time within the institution, The study further shows that, lack of sufficient special diet, sleeping materials, health care, food and other services of children in the correctional center. The study shows that children’s are socialized deviant behavior and it has negative effect on their future life. Furthermore, the study reveals that women inmates faced problems related to the working rules of the institution. In conclusion, the study recommends that the government should aware the society about crime, health service in the institution should be improved by qualified health professionals, the correction administration has to be made more sensitive and responsive to the problems of the children of imprisoned mothers and the working rules of the institution should be improved based on the special needs of female inmates.

In the last few years, though, a number of studies have demonstrated that there are fundamental differences between male and female prisoners in an ever-changing penal system. Consequently, there has been a need for more comprehensive studies of female offenders for three primary reasons: (1) imperative research gaps remain to be bridged; (2) the female prison experience is not constant; and (3) prison rates for female offenders, especially minority offenders, have increased considerably in the last few years. A central goal of this book, then, is to provide a balance to the existing literature and research on female prisoners in the United States and, to an extent, abroad, focusing primarily on female offenders and using data gathered from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The book utilizes a comprehensive investigative approach by equating the experience of female offenders by the totality of circumstances within an historical, institutional, political, and ideological context. The critical objective is to offer an inclusive analysis of the things that are considered by female inmates to be the most significant before, during, and after their incarceration, as a way of better understanding the reasons that lead to their first incarceration as well as subsequent incarcerations. By reading this book, the reader will have a greater understanding of the many challenges facing female inmates, as well as the relationship between inmates, correctional officers and, by extension, society in general. The construction industry is inherently risky, with a substantial number of accidents. Moreover, most construction firms aim at completing projects on time, especially with different projects at hand thereby neglecting the safety aspect of the workers. In most Ghanaian construction companies, adequate concentration is not allocated to the areas of health and safety and this has been a great problem over the years in which Accra Metropolis is no exception. In order to achieve the said aim, the objectives set up include; to identify the possible causes of accident as a result of ineffective management of safety, to determine the level of accidents caused by ineffective management of safety at the construction sites and to identify strategies to curb ineffective management of safety at the construction sites. Survey questionnaires were administrated to five major construction companies in the Greater Accra Region in which the data collected was also analyzed with the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) and the Relative Importance Index (RII) was also used in ranking. It was therefore revealed from the findings that poor planning at site, unsafe working conditions with others are some of the major causes of accident at site. In addition, falling victims were identified as the most serious level of accident on site. Construction companies should consider the need for special training for workers and also to create a group of internal health and safety monitory experts were some of the recommendations made.
