Download or read book Of Kindred Germanic Origins written by Jodie Scales and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-11-30 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compelling and evocative history of an ordinary 21st century American family detailing its varied and diverse historical and cultural elements through out history. An enthralling journey through time and culture giving a strong narrative account of the similar Germanic roots of many American families. Using records and tools as varied as archeology, anthropology, ethnology, etymology, geology, mythology, legends and historical documentation, Scales embarks on a fascinating quest to link together the pieces of a vast jigsaw of the forgotten Germanic heritage of many American families while developing a chronological framework to historical events and family bloodlines. With an astonishing insight into the cultural effects of the travels and historical events of our founding fathers, more than a dozen separate family lines are identified with their earliest American ancestors and which part of the ancient Germanic world those families came from. Reaching as far back into the origin of the Cimbrians and Teutanians, early Celtic peoples known as Germanic Tribes coming down from the Alps, where Switzerland is now located, to their arrival in Germany then on to the shores of the American colonies, sets a framework for the detailed history of the Germanic people who’s blood still runs in many American veins.

Download or read book Integrated Pest Management written by Dharam P Abrol and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-08-28 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated Pest Management: Current Concepts and Ecological Perspective presents an overview of alternative measures to traditional pest management practices using biological control and biotechnology. The removal of some highly effective broad-spectrum chemicals, caused by concerns over environmental health and public safety, has resulted in the development of alternative, reduced risk crop protection products. These products, less toxic to the environment and easily integrated into biological control systems, target specific life stages or pest species. Predation — recognized as a suitable, long-term strategy — effectively suppresses pests in biotechnological control systems. Integrated Pest Management covers these topics and more. It explores the current ecological approaches in alternative solutions, such as biological control agents, parasites and predators, pathogenic microorganisms, pheromones and natural products as well as ecological approaches for managing invasive pests, rats, suppression of weeds, safety of pollinators, role of taxonomy and remote sensing in IPM and future projections of IPM. This book is a useful resource to entomologists, agronomists, horticulturists, and environmental scientists. - Fills a gap in the literature by providing critical analysis of different management strategies that have a bearing on agriculture, sustainability and environmental protection - Synthesizes research and practice on integrated pest management - Emphasizes an overview of management strategies, with critical evaluation of each in the larger context of ecologically based pest management

Download or read book Kingdom of the Netherlands Netherlands written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2011-04-19 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Netherlands has a long-standing legal framework concerning Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism preventive measures, which dates back to 1993. The legal framework for Customer Due Diligence is generally adequate; however, a number of provisions are problematic. The Dutch system of preventive measures emphasizes the risk-based approach, complemented by a principles-based approach. The principles-based approach should be better supported with guidance for financial institutions. Although most elements of the Suspicious Transaction Report reporting requirements are in place, the reporting regime has one minor legal shortcoming and raises effectiveness concerns.
Download or read book Introduction to Dutch Law written by Jeroen Chorus and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2016-04-18 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A standard legal resource since its first edition in 1978, this matchless book has proven itself the ideal overview of Dutch law for foreign lawyers. This Fifth Edition fully updates its systematic description of the legal sources, institutions, and concepts in all major fields of law. Recent developments covered include the progressive implementation of standards set by international conventions, the reorganization of the judiciary, the statute on environmental law, and the (re)codification of private international law. The continuing influence of European law is evident in many fields, perhaps most notably in family law. The various chapters are written by experts – scholars and lawyers – in particular fields, and provide an authoritative overview of each field. The historical sources of Dutch law are discussed, as well as Dutch legal culture, judicial organization, legal education, and the legal profession. These chapters are followed by introductions to essential issues of private and public law and labour law. The last chapter examines questions of legal philosophy. The only resource of its kind available, this book is unmatched as a thorough guide to further research. It offers practitioners, particularly foreign lawyers, a quick and reliable way into any area of Dutch law that they may be required to research. It will also be of great value to comparatists (especially those studying the influence of European law on national legal systems), scholars, and students. Like previous editions, the Fifth Edition has been prepared under the auspices of the Netherlands Comparative Law Association.
Download or read book Thrips Biology and Management written by Bruce L. Parker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thrips (fhysanoptera) are very small insects, widespread throughout the world with a preponderance of tropical species, many temperate ones, and even a few living in arctic regions. Of the approximately 5,000 species so far identified, only a few hundred are crop pests, causing serious damage or transmitting diseases to growing crops and harvestable produce in most countries. Their fringed wings confer a natural ability to disperse widely, blown by the wind. Their minute size and cryptic behavior make them difficult to detect either in the field or in fresh vegetation transported during international trade of vegetables, fruit and ornamental flowers. Many species have now spread from their original natural habitats and hosts to favorable new environments where they often reproduce rapidly to develop intense damaging infestations that are costly to control. Over the past decade there have been several spectacular examples of this. The western flower thrips has expanded its range from the North American continent to Europe, Australia and South Africa. Thrips palmi has spread from its presumed origin, the island of Sumatra, to the coast of Florida, and threatens to extend its distribution throughout North and South America. Pear thrips, a known orchard pest of Europe and the western United States and Canada has recently become a major defoliator of hardwood trees in Vermont and the neighboring states. Local outbreaks of other species are also becoming problems in field and glasshouse crops as the effectiveness of insecticides against them decline.

Download or read book A Toynbee to Remember written by Joy Travers and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on 500 letters exchanged between Will and Lizzie Toynbee living in Walthamstow, East London, and their son Stan, who was in Egypt in during First World War. The family was well known in Walthamstow through their involvement in the Brotherhood Movement. Will was president of the Marsh Street Men's Own and Lizzie was president of the complementary Marsh Street Women's Own meetings, which had broken away from Marsh Street Congregational Church. By 1914, the movement had grown from its beginnings in a West Bromwich Congregational Church in the Midlands to a mainly nonconformist membership throughout Britain of 1,200,000, shortly before the war broke out. By the time Stan Toynbee enlisted in the army early in 1915 when the correspondence began, Will was speaking all over the country on the government campaigns. This and Lizzie's experiences and feelings of Stan's absence so far away, form the basis of the 500 letters, which are the reason for the book.
Download or read book Engineered Cementitious Composites for Electrified Roadway in Megacities written by Ali Aryo Bawono and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-03 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the development of an innovative solution for electrified roadway pavements based on engineered cementitious composites, which are exhibiting an extreme tensile strain capacity that is much higher than conventional concrete. This enables the pavement to work without steel reinforcement and to embed a dynamic wireless power transfer technology for charging electric vehicles. At first, the book presents a modified performance-driven design approach to improve the composites to achieve the optimum pavement design in terms of functional and structural performance. It shows that the modified composites can be used to fulfil the safety and comfort factors without neglecting the characteristics of conventional ones. Further, 3D finite element and fluid dynamics models are used to analyse the pavement properties. The validated models can predict the functional performance, including skid resistance, surface water drainage, and noise. In the remaining part of the thesis, an environmentally-friendly photocatalytic function for pavement made of engineered cementitious composites is investigated. In turn, a multi-criteria design analysis is proposed to identify the optimum functional performance of the pavements. All in all, this book reports on a comprehensive approach to design, analyse and optimize engineered cementitious composites for electrified road pavement application. A special emphasis is given on applications in Singapore and other tropical megacities.
