Book Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control IX

Download or read book Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control IX written by A. Lienard and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected Proceedings of the 9th IWA International Specialised Conference on Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control, held in Avignon, France, 26-30 September 2004. Constructed wetlands and, in some countries, modified natural wetlands are widely used for the treatment of different types of wastewater. Wetlands now have a record of good performance and reliability in applications that include sewage treatment for rural communities, farm effluents, urban and agricultural run-off, and sewage sludge dewatering. However there remains much work to be done in developing understanding of the mechanisms involved and clarifying the operational parameters and design methods that will optimise wetland performance. From the large, high-quality and wide-ranging programme of the Wetlands conference (including the joint sessions) these proceedings have been selected following peer review. They constitute an authoritative "state of the art" summary of current research into the use of wetlands for water pollution control and their successful applications worldwide.

Book Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control X

Download or read book Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control X written by J. M. Novais and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2007-07-31 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of wetland systems for water pollution control has been continuously rising over the past two decades. What was originally regarded as an interesting ecologically inspired experimental concept has developed to the stage that nowadays many hundreds of wetland systems have been installed all over the world as an efficient treatment technology for varied types of wastewater. In some instances their results are not as expected, showing the need for more research, and this issue of Water Science and Technology highlights new studies leading towards solutions for those problems that arise in full-scale implementation. This issue offers a fully peer-reviewed selection of papers that review and assess research and management practices on natural and constructed wetlands, aimed at improving natural dynamic processes and pollution control. Papers cover the following topics: design criteria, operation and performance; optimization and modelling; nutrient removal; effluent reuse, pathogen removal and heavy metals; and ecological considerations. They provide scientists, engineers, managers and entrepreneurs with a timely compilation of authoritative insights into state-of-the-art research on and successful application of wetland systems around the world

Book Wetland Systems to Control Urban Runoff

Download or read book Wetland Systems to Control Urban Runoff written by M. Scholz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-09-29 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wetland Systems to Control Urban Runoff integrates natural and constructed wetlands, and sustainable drainage techniques into traditional water and wastewater systems used to treat surface runoff and associated diffuse pollution. The first part of the text introduces the fundamentals of water quality management, and water and wastewater treatment. The remaining focus of the text is on reviewing treatment technologies, disinfection issues, sludge treatment and disposal options, and current case studies related to constructed wetlands applied for runoff and diffuse pollution treatment. Book Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control 2000

Download or read book Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control 2000 written by K. R. Reddy and published by IWA Publishing (International Water Assoc). This book was released on 2001-12 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control, held in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, USA, 11-16 November 2000. Wetlands are now considered as a widely applicable low-cost alternative for treating municipal, industrial and agricultural effluents. Increasing numbers of wetland projects have come into operation over the last decade, notably those in Florida. IWA's 7th Wetlands conference provided a forum for the synthesis and interpretation of the current status of treatment wetlands. The conference reflected the interdisciplinary nature of the topic, with a diversity of delegates from scientific and engineering disciplines contributing. It addressed research information on current understanding of treatment wetlands, and the need to transfer basic research information to managers involved in solving applied problems; and identified future directions for design and management of treatment wetlands. From a very large programme (of over 200 oral and poster presentations), 86 papers have been selected for these proceedings. As well as authoritative keynote presentations, there are papers on: phosphorus removal and transformations; nitrogen removal and transformations; pathogen removal; optimisation and modelling; ecological considerations; subsurface flow wetlands; surface flow wetlands; industrial wastewaters; agricultural wastewaters; and stormwater. They constitute an outstanding summary of our current knowledge of wetland systems in management of the water environment.

Book Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control 1998

Download or read book Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control 1998 written by P. Cooper and published by IWA Publishing (International Water Assoc). This book was released on 1999-05-31 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of the International Conference on Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control, held in Brazil, 27 September - 2 October 1998. It is increasingly recognised that wetland systems can play a significant role in protection of the water environment. Where once their main attraction was a perceived 'green' character, now constructed wetlands are chosen to provide cost-effective and efficient wastewater treatment - in municipal and industrial applications - that matches up to regulatory requirements. The forty-five papers in these proceedings have been selected from those presented at the highly successful 6th International Conference on Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control. Six papers are invited keynote addresses, which review aspects of wetland systems from an authoritative and up-to-date perspective. The remaining papers are divided into the following themes: Industrial Wastewaters; Ecology of Microorganisms and Natural Systems; Wetland Processes; Combined Systems; Role of Plants; Design of Wetlands; Wetland Hydraulics; Hospital Wastewaters; and Stormwater and Runoff.
