Book Howling at the Moon

Download or read book Howling at the Moon written by Kim Etingoff and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the steaming jungles of the Amazon, to the ice-bound Arctic, the Sonora Desert, and the dark forests of the Appalachian Mountains—North, Central, and South America have their own unique varieties of vampires and shape-shifting man-beasts. A rich tradition of frightening myths and ghastly folk tales going back centuries before the Europeans came to the New World, blending with the folklore of newer immigrants, and rising like an eerie mist from the fertile mix of American cultures, our part of the world has no shortage of blood-drinking monsters and werewolves. Native Americans told tales of night-stalking corpses rising from their graves, the Ancient Aztecs with their blood-soaked cosmology left a legacy of terror tales to modern Mexico, and the howling of wolves (or is it the loup garou?) still pierces the bitter Quebec night.

Download or read book Our Old Monsters written by Brenda S. Gardenour Walter and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The witch, the vampire and the werewolf endure in modern horror. These "old monsters" have their origins in Aristotle as studied in the universities of medieval Europe, where Christian scholars reconciled works of natural philosophy and medicine with theological precepts. They codified divine perfection as warm, light, male and associated with the ethereal world beyond the moon, while evil imperfection was cold, dark, female and bound to the corrupt world below the moon. All who did not conform to divine goodness--including un-holy women and Jews--were considered evil and ascribed a melancholic, blood hungry and demonic physiology. This construct was the basis for anti-woman and anti-Jewish discourse that has persisted through modern Western culture. Nowhere is this more evident than in horror films, where the witch, the vampire and the werewolf represent our fear of the inverted other.

Book The Werewolf s Guide to Life

Download or read book The Werewolf s Guide to Life written by Ritch Duncan and published by Crown. This book was released on 2009-09-15 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you been attacked by a wolf-like creature in the last 30 days? Was it after the sun had set and under a full moon? If you answered, “yes” to both these questions, there’s a very good chance that you were bitten by a werewolf. You now have less than a month before the full moon returns and with it your first transformation into a savage, bloodthirsty beast. Survival is an option, but first, know this: * Werewolves are real. * The majority of lycanthropes who do not have access to this book die during or shortly after their first transformations, generally due to heart failure, gunshot wounds, exposure, drowning or suicide. * Hollywood horror movies are NOT to be used as guides to living as a werewolf. Their goal is not to educate, but to entertain. As a result, they are largely ignorant of the realities of the condition. * Ignorance creates monsters; lycanthropy does not. * You are not a monster. The Werewolf's Guide to Life cuts through the fiction and guides you through your first transformation and beyond, offering indispensable advice on how to tell if you’re really a werewolf, post-attack etiquette, breaking the news to your spouse, avoiding government abduction, and how to not just survive, but thrive. You cannot afford to not read this book. Your very life depends on it.

Book The Werewolf Past and Future Lycanthropy s Lost History and Modern Devolution

Download or read book The Werewolf Past and Future Lycanthropy s Lost History and Modern Devolution written by Maegan A. Stebbins and published by Justin R Stebbins. This book was released on 2021-08-27 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since before recorded history, werewolves have captivated human imagination. Simultaneously, they represent our deepest fears as well as our desire to connect with our primal ancestry. Today, werewolves are portrayed negatively, associated with violence, cruelty, cannibalism, and general malevolence. However, in ages past, legends depicted them not as monsters, but as a range of neutral to benevolent individuals, such as traveling companions, guardians, and knights. The robust legacy of the werewolf spans from prehistory, through ancient Greece and Rome, to the Middle Ages, into the Early Modern period, and finally into present-day popular culture. Over the ages, the view of the werewolf has become distorted. Media treatment of werewolves is associated with inferior writing, lacking in thought, depth, and meaning. Werewolves as characters or creatures are now generally seen as single-minded and one-dimensional, and they want nothing more than to kill, devour, and possibly violate humans. Hollywood depictions have resulted in the destruction of the true meanings behind werewolf legends that fascinated and terrified humans for so many ages. If these negative trends were reversed, perhaps entertainment might not only discover again some of the true meanings behind the werewolf myth, but also take the first steps toward reversing negative portrayals of wolves themselves, which humans have, for eons, wrongfully stigmatized and portrayed as evil, resulting in wolves receiving crueler treatment than virtually any other animal. To revive the many questions posed by lycanthropy, entertainment must show respect to the rich history of so many cultures all around the world - and rediscover the legend of the werewolf.

A forbidden romance blooms between a young werewolf and a powerful witch from rival factions, threatening to ignite a war within the already fragile alliance of the secret society. A traitor within the werewolf pack is secretly working with the vampires, providing them with crucial information that could turn the tide of the battle and expose the society to their enemies. A brewing power struggle erupts within the vampire coven as an ambitious vampire seeks to overthrow the current leader and take control of the city's underworld for themselves, throwing the delicate balance of power into chaos. A mysterious artifact with the power to tip the scales in favor of either the werewolves or the vampires is discovered, leading to a race against time as both factions vie for possession of the ancient relic. An underground black market thrives in the city's supernatural underworld, where illegal magical artifacts are traded among humans and creatures alike, drawing the attention of both the secret society and the vampire coven as they seek to control the lucrative trade. A group of human vampire hunters enters the fray, determined to eradicate all supernatural beings from the city and unwittingly complicating the already tense conflict between the werewolves and witches. A powerful psychic medium with ties to both the werewolf pack and the vampire coven is haunted by visions of a dark prophecy foretelling the destruction of the city unless the warring factions can find a way to unite against a common enemy. A series of brutal murders grips the city, with each victim bearing the telltale marks of both werewolf and vampire attacks, sparking fear and paranoia among the human population and forcing the secret society to investigate the possibility of a dangerous hybrid creature on the loose. A young half-breed werewolf, ostracized by both the werewolf pack and the witch coven, navigates the treacherous streets of the city as a neutral party caught in the crossfire of the escalating conflict between the supernatural factions.
