Book Welsh Cymry Tales

Download or read book Welsh Cymry Tales written by Thomas C. Jones and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a great musician and teacher, Griffith Jones, as told by two of his grandchildren, Thomas Jones and Carol Ann Murray. It is the tale of the son of a Welsh miner who immigrated to the United States when he was six years old and then became one of the greatest choral conductors of his time. He conducted choral groups all over Ohio and Pennsylvania and received the coveted Eisteddfod Prize in Wales in 1934. The authors describe the musical talents Griffith passed on to his son and three daughters and also the three or four generations that followed. This inheritance of a Welsh talent of music, teaching, and stubbornness is the inspiration that led to this book.

It is part of conversation. This book, one to linger over and to treasure, keeps these ancient tales alive by retelling them for a new audience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welsh Food Stories explores more than two thousand years of history to discover the rich but forgotten heritage of Welsh foods – from oysters to cider, salted butter to salt-marsh lamb. Despite centuries of industry, ancient traditions have survived in pockets across the country among farmers, bakers, fisherfolk, brewers and growers who are taking Welsh food back to its roots, and trailblazing truly sustainable foods as they do so. In this important book, author Carwyn Graves travels Wales to uncover the country’s traditional foods and meet the people making them today. There are the owners of a local Carmarthenshire chip shop who never forget a customer, the couple behind Anglesey’s world-renowned salt company Halen Môn, and everyone else in between – all of them have unique and compelling stories to tell about how they contribute to the past, present and future of Welsh food. This is an evocative and insightful exploration of an often overlooked national cuisine, shining a spotlight on the importance – environmentally and socially – of keeping local food production alive.

Book excerpt: The Red Book of Hergest, from whichThe Mabinogionare taken, is a collection of tales and poems written during the fourteenth century. Some of the Mabinogion in it have been reconstructed in Norman and Crusading times, but they contain reminiscences of a more distant period, often but half understood by the later story-teller. Among these are "The Dream of Rhonabwy," "The Lady of the Fountain," and "Peredur the son of Evrawc"-the three which happen to come first in the Red Book. These are Christian, but with distant glimpses ofCeltic heathenism. The adventures are all grouped around Arthur and his knights; and a kind of connection is given to the three tales by the presence of Owen and his mysterious ravens. Others, especially the four Mabinogion properly so called and the Tale of Lludd and Llevelys, are far older; they are older than Christianity, and older than Arthur.
