Book excerpt: Ulrich Sherk (1703-1766) married Maria Grundbach in 1730, and in 1752 they emigrated from Switzerland to Philadelphia, and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Their only known child, John Sherk (1745/1750-1837), a Mennonite, married Barbara Berg about 1772/1773, and moved in 1795 to Welland County, Ontario. Descendants (some spelling the surname Scherich, Scherck or Schürch) lived in Ontario, British Columbia and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to New York, Michigan, Iowa, California and elsewhere in the United States.

Anna and her sons, Andrew and John, settled in the Wilmot or East Zorra Amish-Mennonite communities in southwestern Ontario. Both sons married and had large families. In 1892, part of John's family migrated to Elkton, Michigan while the majority of the Herrforts remained in Ontario. Descendants live in Canada and the United States.
