Book Corrosion of Weldments

Download or read book Corrosion of Weldments written by Joseph R. Davis and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion failures of industrial components are commonly associated with welding. The reasons are many and varied. For example, welding may reduce the resistance to corrosion and environmentally assisted cracking by altering composition and microstructure, modifying mechanical properties, introducing residual stress, and creating physical defects. This book details the many forms of weld corrosion and the methods used to minimize weld corrosion. Chapters on specific alloys groups--carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, high-nickel alloys, and nonferrous alloys--describe both general welding characteristics and the metallurgical factors that influence corrosion behavior. Corrosion problems associated with dissimilar metal weldments are also examined. Case histories document corrosion problems unique to specific industries including oil and gas, chemical processing, pulp and paper, and electric power. Special challenges caused by high-temperature environments are discussed. Commonly used methods to monitor weld corrosion and test methods for evaluation of intergranular, pitting, crevice, stress-corrosion cracking, and other forms of corrosion are also reviewed.

Book Methods of Evaluating Welded Joints

Download or read book Methods of Evaluating Welded Joints written by M. D. Randall and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods of evaluating welded joints vary throughout the country, depending on the purpose of the evaluation, the welding process, material and thickness involved, and on the needs of the particular industry conducting the evaluation. These varying requirements have led to the development of many different test specimens. New materials and joining processes have led to a sharp increase in the number of specimen types and to confusion in the interpretation of results obtained. An analysis of existing specimens is included to show why so many different specimens are used, and the advantages and limitations of each specimen type. The analysis is a composite of available information in the literature, engineering judgement and experience, and the results of 2 industry surveys. (Author).

This book was released on 2006-10-30 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Local approaches to fatigue assessment are used to predict the structural durability of welded joints, to optimise their design and to evaluate unforeseen joint failures. This standard work provides a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods. It covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Seam-welded and spot-welded joints in structural steels and aluminium alloys are also considered. This completely reworked second edition takes into account the tremendous progress in understanding and applying local approaches which has been achieved in the last decade. It is a standard reference for designers, structural analysts and testing engineers who are responsible for the fatigue-resistant in-service behaviour of welded structures. Completely reworked second edition of a standard work providing a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods Covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Book Computer Aided Nondestructive Evaluation Method of Welding Residual Stresses by Removing Reinforcement of Weld Proposal of a New Concept and Its Verification

Download or read book Computer Aided Nondestructive Evaluation Method of Welding Residual Stresses by Removing Reinforcement of Weld Proposal of a New Concept and Its Verification written by H. Nakamura and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method (the bead flush method) is proposed to estimate welding residual stresses non-destructively. First, the reinforcement of the weld is removed. Then from released strains on the surface due to removal, eigenstrain distributions are estimated by an inverse analysis. Finally, residual stresses are determined by the finite element method (FEM) using estimated eigenstrains as boundary conditions.
