Book The Text Book of Weightlifting

Download or read book The Text Book of Weightlifting written by Arthur Saxon and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2011-10-24 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "To my mind, every man should devote at least some small attention to Weight-lifting. I don't think that I have come to this conclusion simply because I myself have gained some distinction as a weight- lifter, but rather for the reasons set forth below. First of all, why does a man learn to box ? Well, because it is asserted that every man should learn how to defend himself in case of necessity. A good and sufficient reason, you will say. The same may also be put forward as an excuse for learning wrestling and ju-jutsu no doubt, but I am inclined to fancy that the noble art would possibly be more useful than either. As to fencing, club-swinging, etc., I know no reason for their practice except it be that of pleasure or a desire for physical exercise, which said reasons may be equally advanced for Weight-lifting, which it will, I think, be further readily admitted is the most sure and certain means of developing strength —a quality which would be most undeniably useful in any means of self-defence. Now, beside all this, every man in every walk of life is certain, sooner or later, to be confronted with a heavy object, bulky or otherwise, which he strongly desires to lift". - Arthur SaxonThis is an original version, restored and re-formatted edition of Saxon's 1910 classic. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of what has been called the best book on Olympic weightlifting, Olympic Weightlifting: A Complete Guide for Athletes & Coaches, comes Olympic Weightlifting for Sports. This book focuses on athletes and coaches outside of the competitive weightlifting world to present a method of teaching the Olympic lifts and their variants simply, safely and effectively to all types of athletes. Also includes information on program design and flexibility training to prepare athletes to perform the lifts. "Coach Everett's Olympic Weightlifting for Sports is a extraordinary product for any sport coach s library. As a proponent of the power clean and its variations for performance training, I found this book to be an outstanding reference for teaching methodology for the Olympic Movements. Coach Everett provides user-friendly terminology for the explanations of these movements. This book is a must-have for any coach who implements Olympic lifts in their program. Joe Kenn, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Carolina Panthers "Coaches, make room on your bookshelf for Greg Everett's Olympic Weightlifting for Sports. Thorough, well written, well organized, and full of information & pictures to help make each point understandable. This will help make you a better coach, and in turn help improve your athletes potential to succeed. I'm excited for Greg and excited to put the information to use! Jim Malone, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, San Diego Padres This is, by far, the most detailed and thorough book about Olympic weightlifting technique. Greg Everett has done an excellent job in presenting and organizing the material in this book. The photos are great. I strongly recommend that any strength coach or sports performance coach own this book if he/she is teaching deep squatting, snatch and clean pulls, and Olympic style lifts. It is well worth the money spent. Ethan Reeve, Strength & Conditioning Coordinator, Wake Forest University "Olympic Weightlifting for Sports is another outstanding book by Greg Everett that breaks down everything you need to know about the specifics of Olympic weightlifting. I really like the way Greg breaks down the progressions for each movement. I've always been a big believer in keeping things simple and specific for both coaches and athletes. This is a must-have for anyone trying to understand all aspects of Olympic lifting. All athletes need to understand why they are training a certain way. This book explicitly covers that for Olympic lifting." Jeff Dillman, Director of Strength & Conditioning, University of Florida This book is a great addition to any strength & conditioning coach s library. It gives very basic and descriptive instruction that does not complicate what a strength & conditioning coach has to teach and coach on a daily basis regarding Olympic style lifts. Kevin Yoxall, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Auburn University Greg Everett is my go-to resource when it comes to the Olympic lifts. Whether it s coaching, program design, or even addressing common limiting factors like flexibility, Olympic Weightlifting for Sports leaves no stone unturned. Whether you re a young coach learning the ropes or a grizzled veteran, this book is an amazing resource. Quite simply, if your goal is to teach athletes how to Olympic lift safely and effectively, this book needs to be in your library. Download or read book The Happy Body written by Aniela & Jerzy Gregorek and published by The Happy Body Press. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Becoming lean and fit is not a matter of training for a few weeks, like Rocky, to become a world champion. That only happens in Hollywood movies that portray professional athletes exercising for hours every day until they are exhausted. Real athletes never do that. They train only to the point that they can recover for the next day s training. Their progress comes in small increments, not heroic triumphs. Unfortunately, movies have persuaded people that they can become lean and fit virtually overnight. Even the weight loss and fitness industry bought into this distortion and began pushing people to become like Rocky. When that approach failed, because people were injuring themselves or burning out or jumping from one program to another, trainers began to entertain their clients instead of finding solutions to their problems. If you want to become truly lean and fit, you must work at it like an athlete, following a structured routine and that is easier and more pleasant than you may expect. The principles that work for athletes also work for ordinary people of all ages. Athletes, of course, have coaches. The Happy Body program, on the other hand, will teach you everything you need to know to be your own coach. This innovative program establishes, for the first time, exact scientific and testable methods and goals to engineer your own weight loss and fitness within precise time periods. That empowers you to self-correct your progress at every step. The Happy Body is a total health program, not just an exercise or diet plan. It will teach you to safely lose 1.0 to 2.5 pounds every week, and keep them off, without getting stuck at plateaus. You will have full control over the process, right down to the ounce. In addition to teaching you how to lose weight, the program will also help you to restore the flexibility and posture you had as a young child, and to be leaner, stronger, and faster than you have ever been. In essence, The Happy Body program will not only make you as youthful as you were at twenty, but twenty as you would have been if you had followed the program at that age.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Perrin's account of the University of Louisiana weightlifting tradition is a wonderful story and should appeal to anyone interested in the local and state history of Louisiana and weightlifting lore. What makes it especially valuable is the anecdotal and first-hand content. It is also well written with lots of detail and side-stories to keep reader interest. I especially enjoyed the special coverage devoted to Red Lerille, Boyer Coe and Walter Imahara. The text has a clarity and richness, which adds to the fine piece of research that Perrin has compiled into an interesting narrative. Thanks to Perrin for writing this enlightening story."

Book Weightlifting Training and Biomechanics

Download or read book Weightlifting Training and Biomechanics written by Andrew Charniga and published by Sportivnypress.com. This book was released on 2019-12-04 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weightlifting Training and Biomechanics covers a gamut of training and technique from the perspective of Soviet era sport science to modern radical, departures in theory of biomechanics: “Can There Be Such A Thing As An Asian Pull”; “Equilibrium in Weightlifting”; “The Foot, the Ankle Joint and Asian Pull”. “Asian pull’ technique is in all probability an effort to circumvent gravity by finding the path of least resistance for the body’s movements, which means these movements need not be designed to raise body center of mass as high as possible (as in the Russian pull) before squatting under the barbell. “The Asian pull technique is antithetical to Russian protocols which stipulate the lifter remain flat - footed as trunk and thighs straighten in unison during the explosion phase (see figure 3). Much of the explosion phase of the Asian pull is carried out with shoulder joints behind the vertical line of the bar with heels raised as legs straighten.” “Peculiarities of balance, equilibrium and stability are not unique to weightlifting. In point of fact they can even be considered 'normal aberrations' in athletics; given the extraordinary complexity of the human body's movement possibilities. Furthermore, the high incidence of injuries in American sport can be traced to a catastrophic outcome of strength and conditioning training, therapeutics and the like; where an athlete's movements are choreographed to conform to rigid, arbitrarily conceived limitations; especially linear (Charniga, 2015 - 2017). Five articles have appeared in the EWF Science journal with another two awaiting publication.
