Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book Katharine Whitney Curtis

Download or read book Katharine Whitney Curtis written by Jordan Whitney-Wei and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2020-01-17 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you invent an Olympic sport? For Katharine Whitney Curtis, it took the right idea, great talent, some good timing, and the determination to make it happen. The originator of synchronized swimming as we know it today, she even wrote the first book on the subject in 1936. But there was much more to her life and career. After the start of World War II, Curtis became a recreational director in the American Red Cross and followed the troops wherever the course of war took them, serving under Generals Patton and Eisenhower, before becoming a director of travel for the U.S. Army in Europe during the Cold War. Unbound by fear or the narrow expectations of society, this was a woman who lived ahead of her time, making things happen along the way. As her first biography, this book generously features Curtis's own words, selected from more than 2,000 pages of letters, and contextualized by her surviving friends and family members.

Book Ippolita Maria Sforza

Download or read book Ippolita Maria Sforza written by Jeryldene M. Wood and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2020-06-04 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In April 1455, ten-year-old Ippolita Maria Sforza, a daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Milan, was betrothed to the seven-year-old crown prince of the Kingdom of Naples as a symbol of peace and reconciliation between the two rival states. This first full-scale biography of Ippolita Maria follows her life as it unfolds at the rival courts of Milan and Naples amid a cast of characters whose political intrigues too often provoked assassinations, insurrections, and wars. She was conscious of her duty to preserve peace despite the strains created by her husband's arrogance, her father-in-law's duplicity, and her Milanese brothers' contentiousness. The duchess's intelligence and charm calmed the habitual discord between her families, and in time, her diplomatic savvy and her great friendship with Lorenzo de' Medici of Florence made her a key player in the volatile politics of the peninsula for almost 20 years. Drawing on her letters and contemporary chronicles, memoirs, and texts, this biography offers a rare look into the private life of a Renaissance woman who attempted to preserve a sense of self while coping with a tempestuous marriage, dutifully giving birth to three children, and supervising a large household under trying political circumstances.

Book Black Children of Incarcerated Parents Speak Truth to Power

Download or read book Black Children of Incarcerated Parents Speak Truth to Power written by Britany Jenine Gatewood and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-16 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book centers directly impacted Black children who have lived through parental incarceration. Their stories are told from holistic perspectives incorporating the full range of collateral consequences. Shifting from the Eurocentric and capitalistic viewpoint, they move us beyond negative outcomes to a positive prism by providing insider perspective, strategy, advice, and compelling experiences. We center Black children of incarcerated parents’ (BCOIP’s) rich narratives to show how they are conscious thinkers with perspectives that can help reimagine all Black children’s lives and futures. These stories help readers better understand the importance of exploring the revolutionary ways BCOIP continue to survive, thrive, and transform amid the dynamic challenges surrounding mass incarceration. The book shifts the social dialogue from fear of intergenerational crime and incarceration to resilience, success, Black joy, and self-love, and moves from sympathetic into an empathetic agenda. The book brings to the forefront counter-storytelling through oral narratives that fill a gap in literature that leaves out the voices of children of incarcerated parents who are doctors, lawyers, professional athletes, musicians, community leaders, activists, professors, teachers, bestselling authors, and much more. These are vital experiences to share because not all BCOIP will end up in prison, jail, or a detention center. Black Children of Incarcerated Parents Speak Truth to Power will be of great interest to scholars from the humanistic social sciences and humanities. It is also a timely resource for students (high school, undergraduate, and graduate) in sociology, criminology, corrections, humanities, social work, counseling, education, social justice, and related courses, as well as agency administrators, community organizations servicing families of the incarcerated, specifically incarcerated parents and the children of incarcerated parents, themselves.

Download or read book Perfect Company Iv written by Gloria Divine and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains personal experiences with Jesus Christ, His Mother and His Saints. It reveals hidden traps by the evil one and its friends. When Jesus encouraged me to write in 2006, I was relieved and happy. I thought about the experiences I had of Him in the past and could write about that. I had no idea that four books would evolve from this encouragement by Jesus. In this book the story continues whereby Jesus uses my life situations to reveal His power and wisdom. Jesus takes me through many experiences so others can be enlightened and aware of certain circumstances in their lives. I am not to keep these things to myself but to let them be known. Jesus is anxious for others to come to know Him. He walked among humans on earth and is neither a myth nor a liar. In the Bible, He was revealed several times as God. A statement I saw on this book read: ‘Steeped in the profound traditions of Catholic mysticism.’ I agree with this statement to a point but to be a child of God one does not have to be steeped in Catholic Mysticism. Most of the churches I attend are Catholic, they are mystical, but mysticism can be found in every church based on Christ. The traditions of the Church are not for Catholics only. They are for everyone who wants to indulge in them. Jesus did not come to place us into churches with particular names, but to save everyone. ‘He who believes in me and is baptised will be saved (Mt 15:16). Another statement I saw about the book read: ‘It is thought provoking and passionate.’ I would agree that it is definitely thought provoking because it is not what the normal human being would experience in their everyday life. These things are there but people are not realising what is going around them. These things are not tangible or visible in the normal sense. I believe the passion must be contained in the style of my writing and my determination to pen everything. Jesus wanted do relay something to the world and I believe He has done so in these books. We are walking in a state of unsafety, and no one is telling us anything concerning this. Our homes, our cars, our streets, our churches, our supermarkets, products we buy, and even our workplaces are unsafe. These are just a some of the unsafe settings Jesus has pointed out to me as having evil and evil workers lurking to make our environments difficult and unsafe. The main solution to this problem is for people to turn to God and refuse to live in a society where He is obscured and ignored.
