Are queenly night hath quite possessed the throne But late made vacant by the exiled Sun; While loyal clouds that linger in the West Still wear his royal colors on the breast - Comes a brief pause, delicious in its sway, The rarest hour of summer's fairest day! A restful island in a restless sea - The rich andante of a symphony. Bathed in the beauty of the evening flush, Nature seems listening in a reverent hush - As if alert with quickened sense to hear The coming of some blessed presence near. Sweet odors rise from off the grasses slain, Like holy thoughts that follow heaven-sent pain - Infinite pathos thrills through earth and sky Like wedded rythm of song and poetry; My heart-strings pulsing to the self-same strain, A harp of joy, just lightly touched by pain - The tone of sadness serving to complete About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Youthful Days and Other Poems Classic Reprint

Download or read book Youthful Days and Other Poems Classic Reprint written by R. B. McEachern and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Youthful Days, and Other Poems I have written this book with a view to impart Consolation to those of a sorrowful mind To the broken in spirit, the troubled of heart, To the widow, the orphan, the poor and the blind And if what is recorded should meet with success In accomplishing half it purposes to do, Be the good of the author, for greater or less, In proportion to that which is faithful and true. There are many who read for the sake of the rhyme Without ever reflecting on what they peruse For the poorest among us have valuable time, Which they wisely improve, or in idleness lose But the sum of the matter is easily told, And the proof is sufficient in every respect We are selling ourselves for the silver and gold Of this world, while our duty to God we neglect. And to what shall the profits of all we amass, Be directed when death has demanded its own For the glitter of wealth cannot purchase a pass, Through the portals of death, to a crown and a throne. We shall reap without fear - if we sow as we should, And have faith in the riches of grace to preserve All our labor; for God is infinitely good, And will judge us according to what we deserve. Download or read book A Spring Day and Other Poems Classic Reprint written by E. Stevens and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Spring Day, and Other Poems Our home is not in Eden, but it hath Some sweets of Eden in it. It is like A town-grown rose with smoke-smutched outer leaves, But, in its innermost heart, daintily pure As any sister rose, that blushing blooms Beside some country home in country air. Our home is in mid-england, where the earth Mourns the lost charms of her once glorious face, Spoiled of her beauty by man's greed of gain. 't was Earth's misfortune to be wealthy here, And hold in her great heart those carbon stores, Whose worth outvies the purer diamond And that rich ore, which, smelted by. Fierce fires, Yields the most useful metal unto man, Of which he makes those instruments and tools, By which he works such wonders in the world, By which, alas he also works such woe.. The ancient Seer spake of a time to come When War shall be no more, and gentle Peace Shall bend the spear into a pruning-hook. Download or read book The Misty Day Poems Classic Reprint written by Lenore Croudace and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Misty Day Poems The Misty Day Oh, that my wish were charged with shot like a gun To hit that bird that sings in yonder tree, And send its aim direct like rays from the sun, That burn their way to diamond spray in the sea! But I have no weapon to pierce the fog and night, And only a dread full dimness in place of sight. One moment I feel it glow like flame of the day, This wish that flutters, burns and beats in my breast, All crimson, vermilion, elusive as a fay. And strange against the morn' in sapphire dressed. Then over me rolls the white, thick cloak of the haze, I can light no lamp to clear my misty daze. What is a wish that it leaps along my veins, A headless thing that plunges towards a brain, While on my spirit still its impulse gains A strength insisting, smarting like a pain? It strives and strives with all its tiny might To bring before my curtained gaze a light. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book My Garden and Other Poems Classic Reprint

Download or read book My Garden and Other Poems Classic Reprint written by John Gregory and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from My Garden, and Other Poems John Gregory was born on the 14th of June, 1831, at Bideford, in Devon. His father was a merchant's clerk, and a man of considerable natural ability and thought, and of a deeply religious turn of mind. For fifty years he was a local preacher in connection with the Wesleyan Methodists, and a tablet to his memory was erected in the chapel where he usually officiated. His mother was the daughter of a Hartland peasant. The boy had but little schooling. At the age of eleven he was apprenticed to a shoemaker for the term of seven years, and whilst serving his time became acquainted with Edward Capern, a postman, who subsequently made a considerable reputation as a poet. Young Gregory now began to pave his way, and, with a brave heart, set out in pursuit of knowledge. After his hours of weary work he devoted what leisure he had to study, but he regarded all books as footnotes to the book of Nature. His apprenticeship served, Gregory came to Bristol, but in a few months lack of work drove him home again, where he continued to reside until 1852.
