Book An Online Interactive Web based Stereo Vision Framework

Download or read book An Online Interactive Web based Stereo Vision Framework written by Minh Nguyen and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis addresses theoretical basics and applications of graphically interactive web- based image processing and computer vision frameworks which extract depth information from different forms of digital two-/three-dimensional (2D/3D) inputs and other collaborative online research meta-tools of 3D data generation, visualisation, and analysis for stereo images. Such efficient and effective online processing tools have not been adequately explored so far. The thesis also discusses various novel and existing algorithms and practicable functionalities of many techniques such as camera control, calibration and rectification, 3D data segmentation, 3D graphic rendering, face modelling, feature detection with active contours, image matching, and stereo reconstruction. Within this thesis, a guided dynamic programming technique is proposed. It uses full or partial pro- les generated by other algorithms to guide the process an efficient symmetric dynamic programming stereo matching to produce higher-quality disparity maps. The evaluated results have shown that this algorithm was demonstrably accurate, fast, and relatively robust for stereo correspondence when tested with modern evaluation techniques and datasets. Along with the theory development, a versatile interactive system is built, allowing users to dynamically reconstruct visible surfaces of 3D scenes from stereo pairs of images acquired with o -the-shelf monocular and stereo cameras including cell-phones and webcams. The system communicates with potential users via the Internet and allows uploading of individual static images or live video sequences. Images are automatically or manually co-aligned into epipolar stereo pairs using either calibrated or uncalibrated image rectification. A rectified pair is processed by one of the available stereo matching algorithms to reconstruct a visible surface of a 3D scene. The user's computer or cell- phone is used to provide an immediate, controllable, 3D display. Within a short waiting time, many results are returned to the user including aligned 3D side-by-side photos, dis- parity and texture maps, anaglyphs, autostereograms, virtual 3D scenes, 3D .OBJ les, or even live depth video sequences; all of which can be shared with others in a public gallery. This portable, simple to set up and operate system, currently very rare on the Internet, is located at http://www.ivs.auckland.ac.nz/quick_stereo and has been visited by thousands of people spread across more than 50 countries. At the present, the public gallery page contains 3,000 real life stereo datasets in over 30 categories; each of them has a pair of raw images, rectified images, and other 3D related data, which are believed to be useful for testing and learning purposes. A few further potential applications such as remote camera control for online calibration and rectification, stereo-vision-based autostereogram creation, modelling of a 3D facial avatar, stand-alone stereo reconstruction application for commodity stereo cameras, and mobile-phone applications are also discussed.

Book View Synthesis Using Stereo Vision

Download or read book View Synthesis Using Stereo Vision written by Daniel Scharstein and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image-based rendering, as an area of overlap between computer graphics and computer vision, uses computer vision techniques to aid in sythesizing new views of scenes. Image-based rendering methods are having a substantial impact on the field of computer graphics, and also play an important role in the related field of multimedia systems, for applications such as teleconferencing, remote instruction and surgery, virtual reality and entertainment. The book develops a novel way of formalizing the view synthesis problem under the full perspective model, yielding a clean, linear warping equation. It shows new techniques for dealing with visibility issues such as partial occlusion and "holes". Furthermore, the author thoroughly re-evaluates the requirements that view synthesis places on stereo algorithms and introduces two novel stereo algorithms specifically tailored to the application of view synthesis.

Download or read book Intelligent Multimedia Surveillance written by Pradeep K. Atrey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intelligent multimedia surveillance concerns the analysis of multiple sensing inputs including video and audio streams, radio-frequency identification (RFID), and depth data. These data are processed for the automated detection and tracking of people, vehicles, and other objects. The goal is to locate moving targets, to understand their behavior, and to detect suspicious or abnormal activities for crime prevention. Despite its benefits, there is societal apprehension regarding the use of such technology, so an important challenge in this research area is to balance public safety and privacy. This edited book presents recent findings in the field of intelligent multimedia surveillance emerging from disciplines such as multimedia computing, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. It consists of nine chapters addressing intelligent video surveillance, video analysis of crowds, privacy issues in intelligent multimedia surveillance, RFID technology for localization of objects, object tracking using visual saliency information, estimating multiresolution depth using active stereo vision, and performance evaluation for video surveillance systems. The book will be of value to researchers and practitioners working on related problems in security, multimedia, and artificial intelligence.

Book Web based Stereo Rendering for Visualization and Annotation of Scientific Volumetric Data

Download or read book Web based Stereo Rendering for Visualization and Annotation of Scientific Volumetric Data written by Daniel Chern-Yeow Eng and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advancement in high-throughput microscopy technology such as the Knife-Edge Scanning Microscopy (KESM) is enabling the production of massive amounts of high-resolution and high-quality volumetric data of biological microstructures. To fully utilize these data, they should be efficiently distributed to the scientific research community through the Internet and should be easily visualized, annotated, and analyzed. Given the volumetric nature of the data, visualizing them in 3D is important. However, since we cannot assume that every end user has high-end hardware, an approach that has minimal hardware and software requirements will be necessary, such as a standard web browser running on a typical personal computer. There are several web applications that facilitate the viewing of large collections of images. Google Maps and Google Maps-like interfaces such as Brainmaps.org allow users to pan and zoom 2D images efficiently. However, they do not yet support the rendering of volumetric data in their standard web interface. The goal of this thesis is to develop a light-weight volumetric image viewer using existing web technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript while exploiting the properties of stereo vision to facilitate the viewing and annotations of volumetric data. The choice of stereogram over other techniques was made since it allows the usage of raw image stacks produced by the 3D microscope without any extra computation on the data at all. Operations to generate stereo images using 2D image stacks include distance attenuation and binocular disparity. By using HTML and JavaScript that are computationally cheap, we can accomplish both tasks dynamically in a standard web browser, by overlaying the images with intervening semi-opaque layers. The annotation framework has also been implemented and tested. In order for annotation to work in this environment, it should also be in the form of stereogram and should aid the merging of stereo pairs. The current technique allows users to place a mark (dot) on one image stack, and its projected position onto the other image stack is calculated dynamically on the client side. Other extra metadata such as textual descriptions can be entered by the user as well. To cope with the occlusion problem caused by changes in the z direction, the structure traced by the user will be displayed on the side, together with the data stacks. Using the same stereo-gram creation techniques, the traces made by the user is dynamically generated and shown as stereogram. We expect the approach presented in this thesis to be applicable to a broader scientific domain, including geology and meteorology.
