Book Wear Resistance of New Generation Esthetic Restorative Materials in Fixed Dental Prosthesis

Download or read book Wear Resistance of New Generation Esthetic Restorative Materials in Fixed Dental Prosthesis written by Divya Rupawat and published by Independent Author. This book was released on 2023-01-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background With an increase in aesthetic demands, the use of all ceramic materials for fixed prosthesis have become the new normal. There are few limitations like wear of the restoration, fractures of the ceramic veneer, colour stability with all ceramics when compared with the gold standard metal ceramic restorations. With the advancements in CAD-CAM technology, various newer materials like PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) are being introduced in the field of dentistry which can be used as alternatives to all ceramics. Aim To compare and evaluate the wear resistance, antagonist wear, colour stability and displacement resistance of zirconia layered with ceramic and PEEK layered with indirect composite fixed dental prosthesis. Material and Methods The study evaluated the wear resistance, abrasiveness, colour stability and displacement resistance of the PEEK layered with indirect composite FDPs and Zirconia layered with indirect composite FDPs using a chewing simulator with aging, a Digital Spectrophotometer and a universal testing machine respectively. A independent sample "t" test was the statistical analysis performed using IBM SPSS Version 20.

Book Surface Properties of Dental Materials Under Simulated Tooth Wear

Download or read book Surface Properties of Dental Materials Under Simulated Tooth Wear written by Simranjeet Kaur and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tooth wear is a well recognized problem that has apparently increased in the last few decades. Various restorative materials may be used in erosion and abrasion lesions to restore tooth structure, function and esthetics, as well as to control hypersensitivity. The materials in our study were nanofilled composites, microfilled composites and resin modified glass ionomer cements. Since the longevity of these restorations depends on its properties, such as surface microhardness and wear resistance, the aim of our study was to assess the effect of erosive and abrasive challenges on the above mentioned properties of enamel and restorative materials. It was concluded that toothbrush abrasion has a synergistic effect with erosion on substance loss of human enamel and the susceptibility to acid and/or toothbrush abrasion of human enamel was higher compared to restorative materials. Nanofilled composite resin has the best resistance to erosion and/or abrasion among all the materials tested, followed by microfilled composite and RMGIC respectively.

Book Evaluation of Two Resin Materials Used for Primary Molars Restoration

Download or read book Evaluation of Two Resin Materials Used for Primary Molars Restoration written by Omar El Meligy and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-28 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturers of dental restorative materials are now concentrating on creating a bonded material that has the favorable properties of both glass ionomer and composite resin, combined with the wear resistance and fracture toughness of metallic restorations. The result has been the creation of a new composite material, now referred to as "compomer." The compomer is a pioneer material in this family. It combines the fluoride-releasing chemistry of a glass ionomer with the esthetics and structural properties of a composite into a mono-component restorative material. Accompanying the development of the compomer is a new bonding system, which only requires one liquid to prime and bond the restoration to the tooth. This polyacid-modified composite resin is indicated for Class I, II, III and V restorations in the primary and permanent dentitions.

Book Handbook of Bioceramics and Biocomposites

Download or read book Handbook of Bioceramics and Biocomposites written by Iulian Vasile Antoniac and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook describes several current trends in the development of bioceramics and biocomposites for clinical use in the repair, remodelling, and regeneration of bone tissue. Comprehensive coverage of these materials allows fundamental aspects of the science and engineering to be seen in close relation to the clinical performance of dental and orthopaedic implants. Bioceramics and biocomposites appear to be the most dynamic area of materials development for both tissue engineering and implantable medical devices. Almost all medical specialties will continue to benefit from these developments, but especially dentistry and orthopaedics. In this Handbook, leading researchers describe the use of bionanomaterials to create new functionalities when interfaced with biological molecules or structures. Also described are technologies for bioceramics and biocomposites processing in order to fabricate medical devices for clinical use. Another important section of the book is dedicated to tissue regeneration with development of new matrices. A targeted or personalized treatment device reduces drug consumption and treatment expenses, resulting in benefits to the patient and cost reductions for public health systems. This authoritative reference on the state-of-the-art in the development and use of bioceramics and biocomposites can also serve as the basis of instructional course lectures for audiences ranging from advanced undergraduate students to post-graduates in materials science and engineering and biomedical engineering.

Book Wear of Dental Restorative Materials

Download or read book Wear of Dental Restorative Materials written by Siegward Heintze and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials to restore tooth defects in patients are subjected to wear from the first day. Excessive wear compromises the function of the restored teeth. As wear measurements in-vivo are complicated and time-consuming, different wear simulation devices and methods have been developed. They are meant to simulate processes that occur in the mouth during mastication. A round robin test that evaluated the wear of 10 materials with five simulation methods showed that the results were not comparable. When correlating material properties to the wear results of 24 composite resins with a specific wear method, some physical parameters could be identified and incorporated into a wear formula to predict wear for this method. The wear method should not only efficiently generate reproducible data but the data should also correlate with clinical wear rates. A huge database on clinical wear of different composite resins and amalgam was used to compare wear with six laboratory methods. Only one method showed an acceptable correlation with clinical situation. The clinical wear data revealed that to date no composite resin is as wear resistant as amalgam.
