Book Weakly Nonlinear Analysis of a Solid Propellant Combustion Model

Download or read book Weakly Nonlinear Analysis of a Solid Propellant Combustion Model written by Michael S. Reardon and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The asymptotic model equations are then discretized using the Crank-Nicolson finite difference method and a direct numerical simulation of the asymptotic equations is carried out for certain parameter combinations. Lastly, the numerical results are compared with the analytical predictions and it is shown that for much of the physical parameter space the analytical and numerical solutions agree. In the physical parameter regimes where the analytical results predict supercritical Hopf bifurcations the slow-time amplitude functions are shown to approach orbits of finite radius in the complex plane where their limit cycle radius and rate of approach is dependent on problem parameters and possibly the initial conditions.

Book Nonlinear Analysis of Solid Rocket Combustion Instability

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Solid Rocket Combustion Instability written by Jay N. Levine and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of the current effort was to improve the utility, efficiency and accuracy of the previously developed nonlinear longitudinal combustion instability program. A finite difference procedure has been substituted for the method of characteristics solution of the governing equations of motion. The range of allowable motor and grain geometries has been greatly extended. In addition, the two-phase analysis has been extended to multiple particle sizes. A comparison with data from a small laboratory pulse motor has demonstrated that the present nonlinear model is capable of quantitatively predicting limiting amplitude when the combustion response of the propellant is adequately characterized. The program has also been modified to make it applicable to T-burners. A vent model which accounts for acoustic radiation losses has been developed. Separate nonlinear particle damping and uncoupled nonlinear combustion response studies have been carried out. (Modified author abstract).

Book Theory of Solid Propellant Nonsteady Combustion

Download or read book Theory of Solid Propellant Nonsteady Combustion written by Vasily B. Novozhilov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-09-02 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite significant developments and widespread theoretical and practical interest in the area of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion for the last fifty years, a comprehensive and authoritative text on the subject has not been available. Theory of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion fills this gap by summarizing theoretical approaches to the problem within the framework of the Zeldovich-Novozhilov (ZN-) theory. This book contains equations governing unsteady combustion and applies them systematically to a wide range of problems of practical interest. Theory conclusions are validated, as much as possible, against available experimental data. Theory of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion provides an accurate up-to-date account and perspectives on the subject and is also accompanied by a website hosting solutions to problems in the book.

Book Numerical Analysis of Nonlinear Longitudinal Combustion Instability in Metalized Propellant Solid Rocket Motors Volume I Analysis and Results

Download or read book Numerical Analysis of Nonlinear Longitudinal Combustion Instability in Metalized Propellant Solid Rocket Motors Volume I Analysis and Results written by and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present report is part of a two volume set which describes a nonlinear solid rocket motor instability analysis and computer program. The primary objective of the current effort was the development and solution of a nonlinear analytical longitudinal instability model, which would allow all of the various governing phenomena to be accounted for in a coupled manner. The two primary elements of the current instability analysis are a method of characteristics solution of the two phase flow in the combustion chamber of the motor, and a coupled calculation of a transient burning rate. It is based on an extension of the most popular, linear, harmonic combustion response model. The current method allows the calculation of propellant burning response to a pressure disturbance of arbitrary waveform, for all time, including the period immediately following the initiation of the disturbance. The analysis also includes a model for velocity coupled response. The nonlinear effects of velocity coupling on the growth of pressure waves in a combustion chamber can be computed.

Book Development of a Computerized Analysis for Solid Propellant Combustion Instability with Turbulence

Download or read book Development of a Computerized Analysis for Solid Propellant Combustion Instability with Turbulence written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-02 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multi-dimensional numerical model has been developed for the unsteady state oscillatory combustion of solid propellants subject to acoustic pressure disturbances. Including the gas phase unsteady effects, the assumption of uniform pressure across the flame zone, which has been conventionally used, is relaxed so that a higher frequency response in the long flame of a double-base propellant can be calculated. The formulation is based on a premixed, laminar flame with a one-step overall chemical reaction and the Arrhenius law of decomposition with no condensed phase reaction. In a given geometry, the Galerkin finite element solution shows the strong resonance and damping effect at the lower frequencies, similar to the result of Denison and Baum. Extended studies deal with the higher frequency region where the pressure varies in the flame thickness. The nonlinear system behavior is investigated by carrying out the second order expansion in wave amplitude when the acoustic pressure oscillations are finite in amplitude. Offset in the burning rate shows a negative sign in the whole frequency region considered, and it verifies the experimental results of Price. Finally, the velocity coupling in the two-dimensional model is discussed. Chung, T. J. and Park, O. Y. Unspecified Center NAG8-627...

Book The Dynamics of Solid Propellant Combustion

Download or read book The Dynamics of Solid Propellant Combustion written by Luigi De Luca and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nonlinear stability analysis of solid rocket propellant burning was carried out, within the framework of a thermal theory for thin (quasi-steady gas phase) heterogeneous flames. This required an integral method in reducing the partial differential equation for the condensed phase heat conduction to an approximate ordinary differential equation. A nonlinear algebraic function, called static restoring function, was found that contains all basic properties of equilibrium and stability of burning solid propellants. This function depends on the nature of the solid propellant (including its flame) and the operating conditions. Analysis of the static restoring function reveals the existence of lower and upper burning stabilities. Nonlinear static and dynamic burning stability boundaries were determined and stability properties of several unsteady flame models were compared. Domains of stationary reacting solutions, damped oscillatory burning, self-sustained oscillatory burning, non sustained burning were singled out. Pressure deflagration limit was evaluated. Validity and plausible extensions of this theory are discussed. Most of the analytical predictions were verified by computer simulated burning tests. Experimental results obtained in shock tube apparatus, depressurization strand burner, laser doppler velocimetry rig are presented. (Author).
