Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.' Romans 5:3-4 (NIV) When you suddenly find yourself on the road of suffering, could it really be God's will? When you've done everything right, don't you deserve a break, not a divine hardball? Sarah Whitecotton was diagnosed with renal cell cancer in 2010. Four weeks later, she was also diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Sarah; her husband, Kent; and their three sons were in for the most intense journey of their lives. To keep up with friends and family during this time, Kent wrote a blog about their experiences: Sarah's treatments, the encouragement from church members, and their newfound compassion for others who were suffering. Weak in Body, Strong of Heart is not only a compilation of Kent's blog posts, it is a comprehensive look at why God calls on his faithful to suffer. From the story of Job to the thorn in Paul's side, Kent Whitecotton inspects the different men and women in the Bible who endured hardships for the cause of Christ. What the Whitecottons have found is the truth in Romans 5:3-4: that suffering produces hope and other blessings. Even though Sarah's journey was difficult, Sarah and Kent praise God every day for his enduring promises. This touching memoir will give you the confidence to endure your own sufferings and turn to God for healing. 'Kent and Sarah have journaled their life's journey in this book. The revelations they discovered revealed who they really were. A must-read book for the Body of Christ.' -Reverend Ken Kashner, Retired Pastor of New Life Christian Assembly

Download or read book The Sufi Message of Hazrat Inayat Khan The Art of Being written by Hazrat Inayat Khan and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many think that it is some deformity of the body, a curve in the spine or cavity in the brain that affects the mind. Few realize that very often the mind produces an irregularity in the spine or in the brain, thereby causing an illness. The ordinary point of view regards an illness as a physical disorder, which can be cured by means of material remedies. Then there is another point of view: that of people who think deeply and who say that by not taking notice of an illness, or by suggesting to oneself that one is well, one can be restored to health. This point of view can be exaggerated, when some people claim that illness is an illusion, that it has no existence of its own. The ordinary point of view can also be exaggerated when one thinks that medicine is the only means of cure and that thought has little to do with actual illness. Both these persons, the one who looks at it from the ordinary point of view and the other who sees from a deeper point of view, will find arguments for and against their idea. Some people go as far as to say that medicine must not be touched by those who have faith, and some affirm that an illness is as real as health. It is in the absence of illness that a person can easily call pain an illusion, but when he is suffering, then it is difficult for him to call it an illusion. The question, who is more subject to illness, a spiritual person or a material person, may be answered thus: a spiritual person who discards spiritual laws. No doubt a spiritually inclined person is supposed to have less chance of being ill, because his spirit has become harmonious through spirituality. He creates harmony and radiates it. He keeps to the realm of nature, in tune with the Infinite. Nevertheless, a spiritual person's life in the midst of the world is like the life of a fish on land. The fish is a creature of the water. Its sustenance, its joy, its happiness are in the water. A spiritual soul is made for solitude. His joy and happiness are in solitude. A spiritual person, set in the midst of the world by destiny, feels out of place, and the ever jarring influences of those around him and the continually striking impressions which disturb his finer senses, make it more likely that he will become ill than those who push their way in the crowd of the world and are ready to be pushed away.

Download or read book The Logic of the Body written by Matthew A. LaPine and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2020-11-04 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Do not be anxious about anything." When it comes to stress and worry, that's all we really need to say, right? Just repent of your anxiety, and everything will be fine. But emotional life is more complex than this. In The Logic of the Body, Matthew LaPine argues that Protestants must retrieve theological psychology in order to properly understand the emotional life of the human person. With classical and modern resources in tow, LaPine argues that one must not choose between viewing emotions exclusively as either cognitive and volitional on the one hand, or simply a feeling of bodily change on the other. The two "stories" can be reconciled through a robustly theological analysis. In a culture filled with worry and anxiety, The Logic of the Body offers a fresh path within the Reformed tradition.

Download or read book Heart Almanac Expository and Curriculum written by Donald R. Downing and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-12 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human life is governed by the heart. The physical heart sustains the body by pumping life-giving blood to every organ and cell. The spiritual heart, on the other hand, is God's dwelling place on earth. Our success or failure in life depends not upon material wealth or social status but upon the condition of our spiritual heart. Everyone without exception needs a new heart from God, clean and right before Him, because without a new heart there cannot be a new life. The heart holds the keys of life. Downing's Heart Manual is biblically and scripturally based to help students know their own hearts and enable them to meet the challenges of life from a heart perspective. This 2-year study guide is designed to help students and teachers broaden their knowledge of the heart and of how to love the Lord with all of their heart, which is the first and greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37-38). Knowledge of our heart is very important because out of the heart flow the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). In Hosea 4:6 God says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Spiritual heart knowledge-God's heart as well as our own-is essential for eternal life. This one-of-a-kind heart manual will guide students on an intimate journey into the very heart of God. Dr. Donald R Downing, a heart physician and specialist for God, has been writing and teaching on the heart for over 21 years. The author of over seven books on the heart, he believes that the greatest need of the church today is for leaders who are also spiritual heart specialists and physicians, and who have pure and clean hearts before God.
