The books will take the reader deep into the trenches of the REAL history never before seen in any other writings! All in chronological order for easy following & understanding as the events of history & time unfold before your very eyes. Quotes from the Author: "Our French forefathers started their journey into the New World, what is now America; they met & married our Wea Native American Indian Ancestors, who had always been here. The blending of these two ancestral roots makes up our families & who we are today. There is no shame. Our Ancestors did what they thought they must in order to survive. Today we are faced with the same; we must do what each of us thinks we must to preserve our Peoples history, culture & beliefs. For me, this is the truth & this is the reason I write these books. I assure you that all facts are historically correct & backed up by numerous historical documents & archive material of which most is listed in the books references. This work took over 10 years for each volume to be completed. The research & collecting of this material spans over 4 generations. Our Ancestors in these books will find & embrace many people, many families, not just ours. It is my hope that many more people out there will find their roots & Ancestors because of this work." Vol-I Genealogy & Vol-III Documents will be published soon in the same fashion in the very near future. Watch for them! • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 0871952807
  • Pages : 141 pages

Download or read book The Native Americans written by Elizabeth Glenn and published by Indiana Historical Society. This book was released on 2009 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second volume of the IHS Press’s Peopling Indiana Series, anthropologist Elizabeth Glenn and ethnohistorian Stewart Rafert put readers in touch with the first people to inhabit the Hoosier state, exploring what it meant historically to be an Indian in this land and discussing the resurgence of native life in the state today. Many natives either assimilated into white culture or hid their Indian identity. World War II dramatically changed this scenario when Native Americans served in the U.S. military and on the home front. Afterward, Indians from many tribal lineages flocked to Indiana to find work. Along with Indiana's Miami and Potawatomi, they are creating a diverse Indian culture that enriches the lives of all Hoosiers.

Book Tribal Names of the Americas

Download or read book Tribal Names of the Americas written by Patricia Roberts Clark and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2009-10-21 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars have long worked to identify the names of tribes and other groupings in the Americas, a task made difficult by the sheer number of indigenous groups and the many names that have been passed down only through oral tradition. This book is a compendium of tribal names in all their variants--from North, Central and South America--collected from printed sources. Because most of these original sources reproduced words that had been encountered only orally, there is a great deal of variation. Organized alphabetically, this book collates these variations, traces them to the spellings and forms that have become standardized, and supplies see and see also references. Each main entry includes tribal name, the "parent group" or ancestral tribe, original source for the tribal name, and approximate location of the name in the original source material.

Book The Miami Indians

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bert Anson
  • Publisher : University of Oklahoma Press
  • Release : 1970
  • ISBN : 9780806131979
  • Pages : 372 pages

Download or read book The Miami Indians written by Bert Anson and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 1970 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the small group of tribes comprising the Illinois division of the Algonquian linguistic family, the Miamis emerged as a pivotal tribe only during the French and British imperial wars, the Miami Confederacy wars of the eighteenth century, and the treaty-making period of the nineteenth century. The Miamis reached their peak of political importance in the Indian confederacies which blocked the Northwest Territory in the 1790's and during the War of 1812. Their title to much of the present state of Indiana enabled them to make advantageous treaties and delay emigration until the late 1840's. The tribe's 1846-47 emigrations produced two branches, the Indiana group and the Kansas-Oklahoma group, which have maintained political co-operation in spite of deep-seated cultural antipathies and dispossession. Their solidarity has been rewarded by success in their suits before the United States Court of Claims. This account spans the years from 1658 to the present, emphasizing the occasions on which the Miamis were a decisive influence on the course of American history.

Book Tecumseh

Download or read book Tecumseh written by John Sugden and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2013-07-02 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If Sitting Bull is the most famous Indian, Tecumseh is the most revered. Although Tecumseh literature exceeds that devoted to any other Native American, this is the first reliable biography--thirty years in the making--of the shadowy figure who created a loose confederacy of diverse Indian tribes that exted from the Ohio territory northeast to New York, south into the Florida peninsula, westward to Nebraska, and north into Canada. A warrior as well as a diplomat, the great Shawnee chief was a man of passionate ambitions. Spurred by commitment and served by a formidable battery of personal qualities that made him the principal organizer and the driving force of confederacy, Tecumseh kept the embers of resistence alive against a federal government that talked cooperation but practiced genocide following the Revolutionary War. Tecumseh does not stand for one tribe or nation, but for all Native Americans. Despite his failed attempt at solidarity, he remains the ultimate symbol of eavor and courage, unity and fraternity.

Book Land of the Indians Indiana

Download or read book Land of the Indians Indiana written by Karl A. Keiper and published by Karl Keiper. This book was released on 2010 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book was written to summarize and to simplify a short period in the lives of Native Americans in the Land of the Indians. It illustrates the philosophy of expansionism and the subsequent abuse of an indigenous people. In the Land of the Indinas, white man's motive was to accumulate wealth through land acquisition and the exploitation of natural resources. Combined with this mentality was the notion that Native Americans did not own the land, had no innate rights and were less than human."--Page 4 of cover.
