Book excerpt: Syren’s Song is the second novel featuring Connor Stark, and it promises to be just as engaging as The Aden Effect. This geopolitical thriller begins when the Sri Lankan navy is unexpectedly attacked by a resurgent and separatist Tamil Tiger organization. The government issues a letter of marque to former U.S. Navy officer Connor Stark, now the head of the private security company Highland Maritime Defense. Stark and his eclectic compatriots accept the challenge only to learn that the Sea Tigers who crippled the Sri Lankan navy are no ordinary terrorists. The Sea Tigers have created a new weapon that not even the West possesses, fueling it with a previously undiscovered element. By creating a localized electro-magnetic pulse (EMP), the group and its ruthless leader, Vanni, can effectively neutralize any ship, airplane, or missile. With this weapon they’re poised to instigate instability throughout the region. Half a world away a U.S. diplomatic security agent is found murdered and the Iranian-born Damien Golzari is tasked with the investigation. He finds more than just murder, uncovering a conspiracy connected to the Sea Tigers and their new weapon. Meanwhile in the forests of Sri Lanka a veteran journalist gets close to uncovering the Sea Tigers mining operation. She learns that they are using local children as laborers, but before she can find out what they are mining, she is discovered by the Sea Tigers. Connor Stark sets out aboard Syren, a former Navy experimental vessel now the flagship of Highland Maritime. Stark and his team race against the clock to prevent another Sea Tiger attack, aided by the help of an old friend leading a U.S. Navy force. Guided by fate or just dumb luck, they unite with Golzari and the journalist. When the Sea Tigers surround Syren, Connor, Golzari, and the journalist must come up with a plan to escape. But the Tigers won’t be beaten so easily, and after cornering Stark and capturing him, he’ll learn firsthand if the relationships he’s cultivated will prove strong enough to beat the odds. With new allies and new enemies, Stark and company face terrorism, war, conspiracy, and murder. Claude Berube has set Stark up for another exciting adventure.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Becoming to Just Being Essentially, this memoir is about living life to its fullest, to achieve its greatest but most elusive goal – Real Happiness. Discovering the joy that true love brought to my heart I began to value meaningful relationships which I cherished with family and friends. The strength that these bonds brought helped me to understand and endure the painful experiences that life inevitably presents, including the death of loved ones. My search for a fulfilling life and enduring happiness led me to take up career opportunities in various countries around the world. Although these brought financial success and much pleasures and enjoyments, they were always fleeting and punctured by life’s trials and tribulations. This lifelong search finally steered me to South India where the well-known sage, Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi, lived from 1879 to 1950. His Words guided me to the fountain of innate happiness that lies within my Self. After nearly a lifetime, I learnt that real happiness lies within oneself. It is an enduring happiness that is not dependent on fleeting external objects and experiences. I share these experiences so that you, too, might overcome the many challenges that life presents and find the Happiness that is within your Heart. Morris Rozario

Growing up in India under the care of his uncle and the school authorities, who stand in for the parents of such refugee children, he is happy enough in India, his foster home. However, being the child of a freedom fighter, he never forgets his roots, and is very conscious of his Tibetan identity. My Name Is Tenzin, I Am Not Chinese is a first person narrative of this young Tibetan’s experiences as a college student in Chennai. Book I fell in love with you and I cried

Download or read book I fell in love with you and I cried written by Rachel Hill and published by Rachel Hill. This book was released on 2022-04-02 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I fell in love with you and I cried is a spiritual, personal and travel memoir of a year in India and Southeast Asia. In April 2017 my husband and I asked ourselves, what would we do if we could do anything? We decided to sell up, leave our jobs and go travelling, along the way unpicking the conditioning of property, career and security and exploring what a life with less stuff would look like. We gave away most of our possessions and in March 2018 we went to India, where we spent seven months in all, then Thailand, Tokyo, Nepal, Cambodia and Vietnam. My book documents the trip through the eyes of a relatively inexperienced traveller. The sights, sounds and colours of India and Southeast Asia as well as the physical and emotional challenges of a year of travel. This was a pre Covid19 trip of a lifetime; making connections with local people and fellow travellers and putting beliefs about minimalism into practice by living out of a small backpack for a year of slow travel.

Book excerpt: An edited volume by Monsoon Assemblages, a European Research Council funded research project. The book presents the methods that Monsoon Assemblages has evolved for engaging the monsoon, a globally connected weather system, as a coproducer of urban life and space in South and Southeast Asian cities. It challenges views of climate as an inert backdrop to urban life, instead suggesting that it is materially and spatially active in shaping urban politics, ecologies, infrastructures, buildings and bodies. It combines critical texts with cartography, photography and ethnography to present the project’s methodology and its outcomes and invites urban practitioners to think differently about space, time, representation and human and non-human agency. It offers intra-disciplinary, intra-active methods for rethinking human and non-human relations with weather in ways that meet the challenges of climate change and the Anthropocene.

Book A Pair of Shoes in the Laundry Basket

Download or read book A Pair of Shoes in the Laundry Basket written by Thomas J.F. and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about ordinary life events, experiences, and relationships that can teach you lessons for living a more fulfilling life. From the Middle East to his family’s hometown of Chennai in Eastern India and beyond, the author shares meaningful insights from what—at first glance—may seem like the mundane. For instance, children often demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of others far beyond their age. Where adults hide, fearing what the world may think, children reach out boldly to do what they feel is right. Their expressions of love, trust, and loyalty are far more genuine than that of adults. If we only stopped to observe and learn from them, we’d find solutions to problems that plague us. The author also shares lessons from his long-lasting marriage with Rachel, which has had many ups and downs (but the ups have always been more plentiful). The two are friends and prayer partners with strong, independent views who love each other even when they’re at odds. Throughout this book, the author argues that no matter how insignificant, transient, and ordinary certain interactions seem to be, you can glean something from them with a sensitive and receptive heart.

Book excerpt: Role model. Icon. Space scientist. Missile man. Bestselling author. Bharat Ratna. Besides Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Dozens of other honours. A following of millions. The most popular President ever. In the small, exclusive world of New Delhi's power centres, however, all that can count for little with the bureaucrats who set the rules and the politicians to whom they report. In Kalam: The Untold Story, R.K. Prasad, his private secretary from 1993 to his death in 2015, shows us another Kalam-accomplished, successful, always modest despite the high positions he occupied, as also vulnerable and innocent. It is a journey Prasad was part of, from Kalam's time as Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister and as DRDO chief, through Principal Scientific Adviser and President, and the years after the presidency. Kalam throws new light on his relationship with political leaders, including those at the highest level, and the truth behind some of the controversies. Most of all it shows Kalam at his best, facing adversity and disappointment in a way that explains why he was what he was-an extraordinary man.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sound is a new area of interest in the Arts and Humanities. The study of sound in cinema has only recently been established in Film and Media Studies. Furthermore, so far, attention has focused on Hollywood and European cinema in this regard. Reading sound from other world cinemas, particularly those from the global South, remains underexplored. As India is currently the world’s largest producer of films with a formidable global presence, this book bridges the gap with a collection of interviews, introducing leading film industry sound practitioners from the subcontinent. The book examines historical developments from the advent of the talkies to present-day digital cinema productions, providing an embodied understanding of the unique Indian film sound world with new perspectives on cinematic narration in the practitioner’s own words.
