It is a time of self-reflection called Little Snow of the Winter of Fate. He closes the period of classical literature and devotes himself to existential philosophy by experience. By contrasting slave morality and master morality with a genealogical methodology, good and evil are transformed into the moral values of good and bad. Goodness affirms and elevates life with an aristocratic will. Badness denies and degenerates life with slavish will. The moral concept of sin is derived not from a Christian point of view, but from the material concept of a debt owed by a debtor to a creditor. Cruelty is understood as a festival of self-affirmation overcoming the nihilism of self-contempt and self-denial. ‘The Genealogy of Morality’ is the concept of Ubermensch trying to create a new value by overcoming the reality of nihilism.

Excluding spot and forward exchange transactions, most of the transactions are conducted by forces aiming for currency speculation. Funds move at the speed of light, and if 0.1% of $3 billion moves, it results in a profit of $3 million. Due to financial liberalization through globalization, exchange rates are determined not only by the movement of goods and services but also by the flow of capital. International financial transactions precede trade transactions, and money exceeding fifty times the real economy seeks higher returns, searching every corner of the globe. As it becomes harder to find good returns due to overinvestment and overproduction, companies rely on 'technical trading' and 'momentum investing' for very short-term gains rather than investing based on long-term outlooks and intrinsic value. Thus, a financial crisis in a specific country spreads to our exchange rate fluctuations or financial crises. Stiglitz won the Nobel Prize in Economics for his work on the asymmetry of information and the imperfection of markets. Market imperfections arise from game-theoretic environments caused by gaps in information, leading to interactions between uncertain elements in the understanding of markets and events. Our decisions, based on human knowledge, result in unintended consequences, but the amount of information gained from failure is greater than from success. Based on a philosophical understanding of wealth, we read the codes of the economy, amplifying the bidirectional feedback mechanism of error and recursion.

Walter Kaufmann's translations are faithful of the word and spirit of Nietzsche, and his running footnote commentaries on both books are more comprehensive than those in his other Nietzsche translations because these two works have been so widely misunderstood.

Yet loyalty is a suspect virtue. It is not impartial. It is not blind. It violates the principles of morality that have dominated Western thought for the last two hundred years. Loyalties are also thought to be irrational and contrary to the spirit of Capitalism. In a free market society, we are encouraged to move to the competition when we are not happy. This way of thinking has invaded our personal relationships and undermined our capacities for friendship and loyalty to those who do not serve our immediate interests. As George P. Fletcher writes, it is time for loyal bonds, born of history and experience, to prevail both over impartial morality and the self-interested thinking of the market trader. In this extended essay, George P. Fletcher offers an account of loyalty that illuminates its role in our relationships with family and friends, our ties to country, and the commitment of the religious to God and their community. Fletcher opposes the traditional view of the moral self as detached from context and history. He argues instead that loyalty, not impartial detachment, should be the central feature of our moral and political lives. Writing as a political "liberal," he claims that a commitment to country is necessary to improve the lot of the poor and disadvantaged. This commitment to country may well require greater reliance on patriotic rituals in education and a reconsideration of the Supreme Court's extending the First Amendment to protect flag burning. Given the worldwide currents of parochialism and political decentralization, the task for us, Fletcher argues, is to renew our commitment to a single nation united in its diversity. Bringing to bear his expertise as a law professor, Fletcher reasons that the legal systems should defer to existing relationships of loyalty. Familial, professional, and religious loyalties should be respected as relationships beyond the limits of the law. Thus surrogate mothers should not be forced to surrender and betray their children, spouses should not be required to testify against each other in court, parents should not be prevented from willing their property to their children, and the religiously committed should not be forced to act contrary to conscience. Yet the question remains: Aren't loyalty, and particularly patriotism, dangerously one-sided? Indeed, they are, but no more than are love and friendship. The challenge, Fletcher maintains, is to overcome the distorting effects of impartial morality and to develop a morality of loyalty properly suited to our emotional and spiritual lives. Justice has its sphere, as do loyalties. In this book, Fletcher provides the first step toward a new way of thinking that recognizes the complexity of our moral and political lives.

Given the manner in which Nietzsche is most often portrayed in popular culture, it is unsurprising that these connotations are predominantly negative. “Conan the Barbarian”, for example, opens with Nietzsche’s line, “What does not kill us, makes us stronger,” indicating a certain encouragement of brutish barbarianism. Moreover however, Nietzsche’s philosophy is associated with cruelty in Polanski’s “Death and the Maiden”, in which Dr.Miranda, who tortured and raped political prisoners, is recognised for his tendency to quote Nietzsche. Perhaps Nietzsche’s most widespread association, is however with Hitler. I argue that these negative associations are not only inaccurate, but in fact quite ironically opposite to the philosophy that Nietzsche actually promoted. While accusations related to Nazism can relatively easily be refuted, accusations of brutishness, elitism and immorality are not entirely unfounded: Nietzsche encouraged strength and power; called himself an “immoralist”; rejected democracy and human equality, and promoted the notion of an “Übermensch”. At first glance, Nietzsche’s philosophy thus appears to support the aforementioned, negative conclusions. It is for this reason precisely that short quotes by Nietzsche rarely do his entire philosophy justice. As will be seen presently, it is vital that Nietzsche’s philosophy be understood in its entirety if we are to realise its true, severely positivist nature. Such a reading will however not suffice to reveal Nietzsche positivism; judgements of Nietzsche promoting an inherently negative philosophy are present even in academic treatments of him, by authors who have, presumably, considered Nietzsche’s philosophy with some deliberation. It is among such academics that the most serious accusation against Nietzsche arises; that of Nietzsche being a nihilist.3 As with the other accusations, Nietzsche being labelled a nihilist is not unfounded; Nietzsche did promote nihilism. Similar to those other accusations however, it is of vital importance to understand Nietzsche’s promotion of nihilism in the context of his philosophy as a whole. By doing so, it becomes clear that Nietzsche (somewhat ironically) treats nihilism as a means an end, to present an inherently positive and life-affirming philosophy.
