Book Back to the Zone

Download or read book Back to the Zone written by Damien Lafont and published by Breakaway Books. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For athletes in any sport: a guide to entering “the Zone” at will “The Zone” is that quasi-mystical state achieved only rarely by athletes, when everything flows effortlessly and you can do no wrong. Unfortunately, we enter the Zone seemingly at random, when it is least expected. The great hope of all competitors is to be able to summon the Zone at will. Toward this end, Back to the Zone breaks the Zone down into its many components and helps the athlete optimize each one: balance, absorption, clarity, feedback, concentration, control, loss of self-consciousness, imagination, positive thoughts, energy, self-esteem, meditation, and quiet mind. Ultimately, Damien Lafont shows us that reaching the Zone is more about freeing our mind from the unnecessary rather than learning new techniques and concepts. This is a short, clear, practical guide for athletes in all sports. With it the golfer or the baseball player, the runner or the swimmer, the tennis player or the cyclist will all reach new levels of performance, and will find themselves “in the Zone” more often. _____________________ “Every athlete must go beyond; transcend the barriers of pain, mind and fear. Here, they reach a holy land within themselves that gives the athlete the gift and power of feeling oneness—a connectedness. Every athlete and person has the ability to experience this grand unity and I applaud anyone who reads this book and is inspired to allow this true and natural experience for themselves.” —Catherine Louise Birmingham, international equestrian rider, coach, and author of Ride for Life: Three Golden Principles for Riders “Words often feel inadequate to describe the quasi-mystical state of ‘being in the Zone.’ Damien Lafont’s Back to the Zone remarkably achieves a new level of understanding, insightfully using the voices of those who experienced it, blending them as in a Bach fugue, as in a collective jazz improvisation. Reading this book, we feel closer to it, we feel it.” —Marco Iacoboni, professor, UCLA, and author of Mirroring People: The Science of Empathy and How We Connect with Others

Book The Early Mesoamerican Village

Download or read book The Early Mesoamerican Village written by Kent V Flannery and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-28 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the classic works of archaeology, The Early Mesoamerican Village was among the first studies to fully embrace the processual movement of the 1970s. Dancing around an ongoing dialogue on methods and goals between the Real Mesoamerican Archaeologist, the Great Synthesizer, and the Skeptical Graduate Student, it is both a seminal tract on scientific method in archaeology and a series of studies on formative Mesoamerica. It critically evaluates techniques for excavation, sampling of sites and regions, and stylistic analysis, as well as such theoretical factors of explanation as population pressure, trade, and religion and launched similar studies for several later generations of archaeologists. A new Foreword by Jeremy Sabloff is featured in this edition.

Book Exploring the Zone

Download or read book Exploring the Zone written by Larry Miller and published by Pelican Publishing. This book was released on 2001-01-30 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been referred to as the mysterious phenomenon of spontaneous excellence. It has been applauded as the model for achievement in everything from athletics to child rearing, and it relates to every aspect of our lives, from the food we eat to the art and music we surround ourselves with. "Being 'in the zone' has been popularized greatly by the sports media, and, as so often happens with buzz-words and catch-phrases, it has taken on an aura much greater and more mysterious than its true nature . . . In reality, the zone is nothing more than peak efficiency, of which we are all capable." From Exploring the Zone, section 1, "The Ranks of the Efficient" This book explores all the aspects of accessing a level of consciousness where the zone can be accessed and prolonged through ten "pathways to the zone," and through understanding what the zone itself is. Celestine Prophecy author James Redfield's contributions expand the spiritual aspects of the zone. The concluding twelve chapters present principles on the unity of heaven, earth, and human, and the essential unities within each realm.

Book A New Song for China

Download or read book A New Song for China written by Allen Artz Wiant and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003-01-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bliss Wiant went to China in 1923 with the lofty goal of some day introducing hymns to Chinese Christians that would not sound foreign to them. It was a goal that occupied much of his life. The locale of his work was Yenching University, which was arguably the premier institution of higher education in China. There he established a department of music, and enabled students to discover and develop their musical talents. There also he taught students who had never before seen a western musical score, to sing and to love Handel's Messiah and other great music of the west. In less than 10 years after its first performance, the reputation of the university chorus was such that it was invited by the government of China to present the Messiah in Nanking, the national capitol, as the finale to a two-week exposition of the arts. A major milestone in the pursuit of his life's goal was reached in that same year (1937), when a hymnal (English Title, "Hymns of Universal Praise") was published. This was the culmination of years of collaborative effort involving scores of individuals. Not only was the hymnal a uniquely inter-denominational achievement, it also included for the first time, a substantial number of original, indigenous hymns. Wiant's work in China produced in him a great love for the people as well as a deep admiration for their culture, which he saw both as misunderstood and unappreciated in the U.S. Consequently he devoted much of his energy in the years that followed to being a cultural ambassador, representing China to his own countrymen. An important manifestation of this was his work and that of his wife, Mildred, in translating into English a number of the Chinese hymns that first appeared in Hymns of Universal Praise. Several of these are now found in hymns used in the U.S., in effect closing a circle begun when Wiant went to China in 1923.
