This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once upon a time there was a sleepy oceanside town in South Florida that came to life for only two weeks every springtime. Then a midwestern English professor wrote a cheeky novel based on his observations of college guys and girls on Spring Break 1959 as they chased each other across the surf and sand in search of that perfect someone. When the novel Where the Boys Are was released in early 1960 and the movie version debuted at the end of that year, it put Fort Lauderdale on the lips and to-do lists of millions of North American college students and other fun-seekers for much of the next three decades. The city dubbed "The Venice of America" welcomed everyone and the party still hasn't stopped!

Book excerpt: Lightning Ridge, Australia, the world’s opal capital, has miners from over fifty countries, who brought with them their political and religious beliefs, traditions, and memories. Gradually they created a unique society with a new culture, character, morals, and ideals. You never know who is who in Lightning Ridge, says Bill, an old opal miner. Aborigines and Europeans, doctors and illiterates, policemen and criminals, all camp next to each other, looking for the same rainbow in the clay beneath the sandstone. Prospectors come to Lightning Ridge in search of the elusive rainbow gem that will make them instantly rich and respected. The hope to find a red-on-black opal is the dream these opal miners live on. Ratting is the worst crime possible in an opal mining community. Ratters are miners who masquerade as prospectors, but they wait until a miner hits opal and then loot his mine. These stories are also about the women who loved and followed their adventurous men searching for their rainbow in the heart of Australian wilderness. ? The seven stories in this book are based on real people and events. Each story can be read separately or as one book. Set in Lightning Ridge and in Canberra, the tales span from 1938 to present day.

Download or read book How Does It Feel written by Mark Kermode and published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson. This book was released on 2018-09-20 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Wonderful - such a terrific read. Brilliantly captures the passion, commitment, searing self-knowledge and dizzy happiness that comes with loving music. An enchanting book' STEPHEN FRY *** Following a formative encounter with the British pop movie Slade in Flame in 1975, Mark Kermode decided that musical superstardom was totally attainable. And so, armed with a homemade electric guitar and very little talent, he embarked on an alternative career - a chaotic journey which would take him from the halls and youth clubs of North London to the stages of Glastonbury, the London Palladium and The Royal Albert Hall. Hilarious and blissfully nostalgic, this is a riotous account of a bedroom dreamer's attempts to conquer the world armed with nothing more than a chancer's enthusiasm and a simple philosophy: how hard can it be? *** 'At the heart of this entertaining memoir is a little boy in his back garden in Finchley, banging out a rhythm on saucepans with a couple of wooden spoons' Daily Mail 'A rocking whirlwind of a tale' DANNY BAKER 'Wonderful . . . will increase your zest for life' RICHARD AYOADE 'Entertaining . . . what comes through every anecdote is the author's genuine enthusiasm for music' Spectator
Download or read book Killing Bono written by Neil McCormick and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2005-10-19 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Longtime friend and reporter, Neil McCormick, reveals childhood and present day stories about Bono and his band, U2. Some are born great. Some achieve greatness. Some have greatness thrust upon them. And some have the misfortune to go to school with Bono. Everyone wants to be famous. But as a young punk in Dublin in the 1970s, Neil McCormick's ambitions went way beyond mere pop stardom. It was his destiny to be a veritable Rock God. He had it all worked out: the albums, the concerts, the quest for world peace. There was only one thing he hadn't counted on. The boy sitting on the other side of the classroom had plans of his own. Killing Bono is a story of divergent lives. As Bono and his band U2 ascended to global superstardom, his school friend Neil scorched a burning path in quite the opposite direction. Bad drugs, weird sex, bizarre haircuts: Neil experienced it all in his elusive quest for fame. But sometimes it is life's losers who have the most interesting tales to tell. Featuring guest appearances by the Pope, Bob Dylan, and a galaxy of stars, Killing Bono offers an extremely funny, startlingly candid, and strangely moving account of a life lived in the shadows of superstardom. “The problem with knowing you is that you've done everything I ever wanted to,” Neil once complained to his famous friend. “I'm your doppelganger,” Bono replied. “If you want your life back, you'll have to kill me.” Now there was a thought...

Download or read book Freedom of F G Speech Baby written by Sherlyn Gajewski and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 801 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freedom of F-----g Speech Baby is the perfect title for this book, for it is what we all want to be. Its a no holds barred book with words unhidden and unhindered. I am so glad that I live in a country that allows me to have this freedom of speech and that has allowed me to write this book and I am one who is not afraid to use this opportunity to its fullest extent. This is an author who will never shy away from using strong vocabulary. Some of my thoughts and vocabulary that are used in this book may shock you and make you shake your head in disbelief. This book is not for the timid and shy readers. It is graphic and modern, because that is what we have become in 2013; very descriptive and contemporary. So enjoy what this wild natured mind has to offer the writing world. Enjoy the trip of a mind that is not afraid to speak and put her words on paper for everyone to read. This book portrays a woman of confidence that is shown in her writings and she has written some self- help and healing poems that will turn you into the self-assured person that you should be. That is why I chose the title Freedom Of F---ing Speech baby, because I believe that everyone should have that opportunity to write and speak freely because it shows a great sense of confidence. To me there is nothing better for a writer than writing whatever you feel at the time and if it is uncensored it makes its all the better; and having the chance to make a book of these feelings is one of the greatest achievements a person can offer to the world. I thank you for this opportunity.

Book excerpt: RUNNING SCARED is fast-paced with a touch of danger and humour. It has a dual POV and is set in present-day Manchester and Wales. Gangs, stepdads and other problems… What Luke wants is to run, hang out with his friend Robbie and avoid his stepdad and the local gang. It’s difficult to find somewhere he can be safe… RUNNING SCARED showcases high drama, laugh-out-loud scenarios, morally grey characters and peril between Luke and the Ardwick Barmy Army (ABA). Luke has managed to avoid the Magistrates’ Court for several months, a record he’s trying to hold onto as his sixteenth birthday approaches. Unfortunately the combined efforts of his stepdad, Damian, and the gang seem to be conspiring to put his record at risk. Luke's stepdad is forcing him to steal cigarettes, again. Damian isn’t even Luke’s worst parent; first place is still held by his real dad who is doing a stretch in Strangeways prison. And the ABA have threatened him with a ‘Mikey’, which is a reference to a recent incident where they poured petrol through Mikey’s letterbox and set fire to it. Mikey survived but his girlfriend and baby boy didn’t. In Rowan, a village in Wales, Joey is hassled by Tommo who is selling drugs for a gang from Manchester. Tommo’s marketing plan includes images on instant messaging such as a dandelion for weed and a diamond for crystal meth. Tommo is offering free samples and a crash course in what to do with them which Joey has declined. Luke’s family moves to Wales to get away from drugs and gangs. He finds the gang are already there and he joins forces with Joey to try and destroy their cannabis plants.
