Book Propagation of Waves in Shear Flows

Download or read book Propagation of Waves in Shear Flows written by Anatoli? L?vovich Fabrikant and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of well-known theorems of the hydrodynamic theory of stability are interpreted in terms of the interaction of the waves having different energy signs. Attention is drawn to the plasma-hydrodynamic analogy, which is a powerful tool for physical analyses of general mechanisms of wave amplification and absorption in flows. Various wave-flow interaction problems are considered, for instance, sound generation in whistlers, wave scattering and amplification by vortices, methods of wave remote sounding, and some nonlinear dynamical and chaotic phenomena.

Book Mixing and Dispersion in Stably Stratified Flows

Download or read book Mixing and Dispersion in Stably Stratified Flows written by P. A. Davies and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stratified flows are important in determining how various atmospheric and environmental processes occur. The book investigates these processes and focuses on the methods by which pollutants are mixed and dispersed in natural and industrial environments.

Book Wave Propagation in Gas Liquid Media

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Gas Liquid Media written by V. E. Nakoryakov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-06-28 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave Propagation in Gas-Liquid Media (translated from the Russian 2nd Edition, published in 1990) presents the fundamentals of wave dynamics of two-phase gas-liquid systems. The study of multiphase systems is of growing importance in mechanics and thermophysics, particularly for applications in industrial, energy, power, chemical, and aerospace engineering. This book presents investigations of non-linear wave dynamics, as well as practical applications of wave motion. A system of non-stationary gas-dynamics to replace studies of conventional gas-dynamics is constructed by the book's contributors. Topics discussed include acoustics and shock waves in homogenous gas- and vapor-liquid mixtures, dynamics of gas and vapor bubbles, wave processes in gas-liquid systems, wave propagation in a liquid with vapor bubbles, wave processes on the interface of two media, wave flow of liquid films, and basic calculation formulas for wave dynamics of gas- and vapor-liquid media. The book will be a useful reference for thermophysicists, mechanical engineers, and aerospace engineers.

Book Hydrodynamics of Gas Liquid Reactors

Download or read book Hydrodynamics of Gas Liquid Reactors written by Barry Azzopardi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-05-12 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of chemical reactors and their safety are as critical to the success of a chemical process as the actual chemistry taking place within the reactor. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the practical aspects of multiphase reactor design and operation with an emphasis on safety and clean technology. It considers not only standard operation conditions, but also the problems of runaway reaction conditions and protection against ensuing over-pressure. Hydrodynamics of Multiphase Reactors addresses both practical and theoretical aspects of this topic. Initial chapters discuss various different types of gas/liquid reactors from a practical viewpoint, and later chapters focus on the modelling of multiphase systems and computational methods for reactor design and problem solving. The material is written by experts in their specific fields and will include chapters on the following topics: Multiphase flow, Bubble columns, Sparged stirred vessels, Macroscale modelling, Microscale modelling, Runaway conditions, Behaviour of vessel contents, Choked flow, Measurement techniques.

Book Wave Propagation and Group Velocity

Download or read book Wave Propagation and Group Velocity written by Léon Brillouin and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave Propagation and Group Velocity contains papers on group velocity which were published during the First World War and are missing in many libraries. It introduces three different definitions of velocities: the group velocity of Lord Rayleigh, the signal velocity of Sommerfeld, and the velocity of energy transfer, which yields the rate of energy flow through a continuous wave and is strongly related to the characteristic impedance. These three velocities are identical for nonabsorbing media, but they differ considerably in an absorption band. Some examples are discussed in the last chapter dealing with guided waves, and many other cases of application of these definitions are quoted. These problems have come again into the foreground, in connection with the propagation of radio signals and radar. Reflection in the Heaviside layers requires a real knowledge of all these different definitions. Group velocity also plays a very important role in wave mechanics and corresponds to the speed of a particle. The present book should be very useful to physicists and radio engineers and should give them a good basis for new discussions and applications.

Book Wave Propagation in Solids and Fluids

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Solids and Fluids written by Julian L. Davis and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this volume is to present a clear and systematic account of the mathematical methods of wave phenomena in solids, gases, and water that will be readily accessible to physicists and engineers. The emphasis is on developing the necessary mathematical techniques, and on showing how these mathematical concepts can be effective in unifying the physics of wave propagation in a variety of physical settings: sound and shock waves in gases, water waves, and stress waves in solids. Nonlinear effects and asymptotic phenomena will be discussed. Wave propagation in continuous media (solid, liquid, or gas) has as its foundation the three basic conservation laws of physics: conservation of mass, momentum, and energy, which will be described in various sections of the book in their proper physical setting. These conservation laws are expressed either in the Lagrangian or the Eulerian representation depending on whether the boundaries are relatively fixed or moving. In any case, these laws of physics allow us to derive the "field equations" which are expressed as systems of partial differential equations. For wave propagation phenomena these equations are said to be "hyperbolic" and, in general, nonlinear in the sense of being "quasi linear" . We therefore attempt to determine the properties of a system of "quasi linear hyperbolic" partial differential equations which will allow us to calculate the displacement, velocity fields, etc.
