Book Wave Induced Oscillations in Harbors of Arbitrary Shape

Download or read book Wave Induced Oscillations in Harbors of Arbitrary Shape written by Jiin-Jen Lee and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical and experimental studies were conducted to investigate the wave induced oscillations in an arbitrary shaped harbor with constant depth which is connected to the open-sea. A theory termed the 'arbitrary shaped harbor' theory is developed. The solution of the Helmholtz equation is formulated as an integral equation; an approximate method is employed to solve the integral equation by converting it to a matrix equation. The final solution is obtained by equating, at the harbor entrance, the wave amplitude and its normal derivative obtained from the solutions for the regions outside and inside the harbor.

Book An Introduction to Boundary Element Methods

Download or read book An Introduction to Boundary Element Methods written by Prem K. Kythe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The finite element and the boundary element methods are the two most important developments in numerical mathematics to occur in this century. Many engineering and mathematics graduate curricula now include a course in boundary element methods. Such a course must cover numerical methods, basic methodology to real problems, and interactive computer usage. Both theory and applications, necessary for applied courses, are available in this new textbook. An Introduction to Boundary Element Methods is logically organized and easy to read. The topics are carefully selected and meticulously presented. Applications are described for use in identifying potential problems and for heat transfer, diffusion equations, linear elasticity, water waves, ocean acoustics, acoustic scattering, aerodynamics, porous media, and simple laminar flows. More than 20 computer subroutines help develop and explain the computational aspect of the subject. Hundreds of figures, exercises, and solved examples supplement text and help clarify important information. The computer programs have been tested on some benchmark problems. Even in single precision the results are more accurate and better than those obtained from available Fortran programs.

Book Wave induced oscillations in harbors with connected basins

Download or read book Wave induced oscillations in harbors with connected basins written by Jiin-Jen Lee and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A linear, inviscid theory, termed the coupled basins theory, has been developed to analyze the response to periodic incident waves of an arbitrary shape harbor containing several interconnected basins. The region of consideration is divided into an open-sea region and several inner-basin regions (the number depending on the harbor geometry). The solution in each region is formulated as an integral equation in terms of the normal velocity at the entrance and/or at the common boundaries between regions. It has been found that the coupled-basins theory gives results which agree well with experiments both for an irregular shape harbor as well as for a harbor composed of two connected circular basins. Various aspects of the response of harbors composed of several types of circular connected basins as well as circular harbors with rectangular entrance channels have been investigated. Certain aspects of the effect of viscous dissipation on harbor resonance are discussed. Some attention is given to problems scaling model results to the prototype harbor.
