Book Waterfowl Populations in the Upper Chesapeake Region

Download or read book Waterfowl Populations in the Upper Chesapeake Region written by Robert E. Stewart and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Upper Chesapeake region is one of the more important areas in North America for migrating and wintering waterfowl. Conditions here affect the welfare of waterfowl populations in the entire Atlantic Flyway. During the more recent years of this study there was a noticeable decline in the waterfowl populations in this region, probably as a result of destruction and disturbance of habitat along with a steady increase in hunting pressure. The purpose of this report is to present information on the distribution, ecology, and harvest of waterfowl in the Chesapeake Bay Region, so that this information can be used as a guide to management and preservation of waterfowl populations.

Download or read book Birds and Marshes of the Chesapeake Bay Country written by Brooke Meanley and published by Cornell Maritime Press. This book was released on 1975 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A remarkably diverse population of bird life, migratory and indigenous, lives in the region known as the Chesapeake Bay country. It is one of the finest locations on the eastern seaboard for observing wild birds. Among the cattail and wild rice, the cordgrass and loblolly, from the countryside north of Baltimore to the windswept beaches of the Atlantic, are the imperiled canvasback, the boat-tailed grackle, the secretive king rail, the fragile egret, and the evasive snowy owl. Illustrated with photographs and line drawings, this book is indispensable to bird watchers and conservationists in the Chesapeake Bay region.

Download or read book The North American Swans Their Biology and Conservation written by Paul Johnsgard and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among birds, swans are relatively long-lived species and are also among the most strongly monogamous, having prolonged pair and family bonds that strongly influence their reproductive and general social behavior, which, in combination with their beauty and elegance, contribute to the overall high degree of worldwide human interest in them. This volume of more than 59,000 words describes the distributions, ecology, social behavior, and breeding biologies of the four species of swans that breed or have historically bred in North America, including the native trumpeter and tundra swans, the introduced mute swan, and the marginally occurring whooper swan. Also included are 5 distribution maps, 15 drawings, 27 photographs by the author, and a reference section of nearly 1,000 literature citations.
