Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Engineering - Civil Engineering, grade: 1, Arba Minch University, course: water supply and environmetal engineering, language: English, abstract: The provision of clean Water Supply is one of the major factors that greatly contribute to the socioeconomic transformation of a country by improving the health thereby increasing life standard and economic productivity of the society. However, most of the developing countries like Ethiopia still have low potable water supply and sanitation coverage that result the citizens to be suffered from water Shortage, water born and water related diseases. A good water supply distribution infrastructure plays a key role for any kind development for a town. This project examined the theoretical framework for the design of an improved water distribution network for Holeta town. The aim of this water supply project is to provide potable water for present and future demand for targeted Holeta town which improve the existing water supply system of the town. The present and future population of the study area was determined and the water demand per day established. The hydrologic, hydro geologic and topographic data formed the basis of the design while laying emphasis on models and theories of pipe networking and performance. The pipe network layout was analyzed with the use of Epanet2.0 software which is based on Hazen William's equation. Key Words: EPA-NET software, population projection (forecast), pressure head, velocity head, water demand assessment and water distribution network system.

Book Hydraulic Simulation of Existing Water Distribution System using EPANET

Download or read book Hydraulic Simulation of Existing Water Distribution System using EPANET written by Teshome Mekete and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, , language: English, abstract: The objective of this work is to simulate distribution network and to improve the efficiency of existing water distribution network to supplying potable water to end users. Network of the study area is simulated by EPANET data of topography of the study area is collected using land survey instrument per the known latitudes, longitudes for the study area. The scheme design is organized so that required output is attained by using available input parameters like population of the study area, rate of growth in population and elevation at required point to install service reservoir. Therefore, with all the available input parameters, now the network is run through EPANET software and the results are thoroughly checked with standards. At the final stage, the output results that are obtained after successful run from EPANET tool, they are cross checked thoroughly with standard required values. If any of the corresponding values are not within acceptable bounds, then the network is adjusted accordingly to the required input parameters and again the network will be examined in EPANET software. This procedure is repeated until the parameters like velocity, friction factor, water head, pressure head, diameter and friction factor values are in the precise range. Pressure head at all nodes in the study area are having appropriate pressure to extract water. Flow in all pipes or links are adequate enough to survive the pressures at nodes. Roughness coefficients of pipes are all quite adequate as the head loss due to friction is little. It is also proposed to install air valves at high elevations and sluice valves at low elevations. The practical applications like: plan and improve a system’s hydraulic performance, improve the quality of water distributed to consumers and study the disinfectant using based on water type.

Book An Optimization Model for a Water Distribution Network Design

Download or read book An Optimization Model for a Water Distribution Network Design written by Bolaji Fatai Sule and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Water distribution system connects consumers to sources of water, using hydraulic components, such as pipes, valves, and reservoirs. The engineer faced with the design of such a system, or of additions to an existing system, has to select the sizes of its components. Also he has to consider the way in which the operational components, pumps and valves, will be used to supply the required demands with adequate pressures. The network has to perform adequately under varying demand loads, hydraulic and operational conditions. Operational decisions for these loads are essentially part of the design process, since one cannot separate the so-called design decisions, i.e. the sizing of components, from the operational decisions; they are two inseparable parts of one problem. This work has therefore presented a method for optimizing the design of a water distribution network system using pipe diameter as decision variable under the required demand loading and hydraulic conditions. It has been established that increasing the minimum pressure will lead to the reduction in the required pipe diameter which will in turn reduce the cost of installation. The modelling approach developed can be used by engineers and planners to obtain economical pipe sizes for a network designed to serve newly planned layouts.

Book Advances in Water Distribution Networks

Download or read book Advances in Water Distribution Networks written by Giuseppe Pezzinga and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-02-28 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Special Issue on Advances in Water Distribution Networks (WDNs) explores four important topics of research in the framework of WDNs, namely simulation and optimization modelling, topology and partitioning, water quality, and service effectiveness. With regard to the first topic, the following aspects are addressed: pressure-driven formulations, algorithms for the optimal location of control valves to minimize leakage, the benefits of water discharge prediction for the remote real time control of valves, and transients generated by pumps operating as turbines. In the context of the second topic, a topological taxonomy of WDNs is presented, and partitioning methods for the creation of district metered areas are compared. In relation to the third topic, the vulnerability to trihalomethane is assessed, and a statistical optimization model to minimize heavy metal releases is presented. Finally, the fourth topic focusses on the estimation of non-revenue water, including leakage and unauthorized consumption, and on the assessment of service under intermittent supply conditions.

Book Rural Water Supply Systems In Ofla District Northern Ethiopia

Download or read book Rural Water Supply Systems In Ofla District Northern Ethiopia written by Misgina Gebrehiwot Abrha and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water is life. It keeps life to carry on living. However, it's not evenly distributed across all over the spaces in the world. Access to potable drinking water is becoming a question of survival in developing countries like Ethiopia. It may not be to the shortage of water resources in the country but related to scarcity of financial resources to develop the resources. It is also related to mismanagement of available resources. Water supply projects are supposed to be developed for the benefit of local community, however, the degree of participation of these community at the grass-root level is discouraging. As the projects belong to them, it must be the community to take majority role of the design, development and management aspects of every development activities.

Book Sustainability of Water Resources

Download or read book Sustainability of Water Resources written by Basant Yadav and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-29 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers a wide spectrum of water resources management, including water supply and demand, operation and maintenance of water distribution systems, water quality assessment, impacts of climate change on hydrological extremes, and water governance. Rapid urbanization, industrialization, and population growth are the major factors contributing to a significant rise in water demands across all the sectors in India. Although the Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall contributes primarily to the available surface and groundwater resources, recurrent non-uniform/erratic rainfall events have resulted in widespread water scarcity. On many occasions, extreme meteorological conditions trigger the severity of water-related disasters such as floods and droughts. The untreated wastewater from domestic and industrial sources discharged through un-engineered means, adds to the issue as it ends up polluting the surface and groundwater resources.
