Book Aquaculture Water Reuse Systems Engineering Design and Management

Download or read book Aquaculture Water Reuse Systems Engineering Design and Management written by M.B. Timmons and published by . This book was released on 1994-10-25 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand for high quality aquacultured products and an increasing concern for resource conservation has led individuals and large corporations to invest time and money in commercial scale recirculating production systems. However, there are relatively few reports of profitable recirculating production systems in operation. There is little doubt that most fish reared in ponds, floating net pens, or raceways can be produced in commercial scale recirculating systems. The objective of this book is to provide basic information and analytical skills for the reader so that they may make the proper design or investment decisions concerning water reuse and recycle systems. The chapters of this book are sequenced to provide continuity to a basic approach that would be used in designing a water reuse or recycle system. The chapter authors contributing to this book have written extensively in the literature already on the particular subject being addressed in their chapter. Considerable background information on the basic processes being presented is also given in each chapter to supplement the basic design information being provided. These chapters should provide the reader with essentially all the information required in order to design and manage a water reuse system. The book is written for engineers and biologists working in the area of intensive fish culture. The text should also prove useful as a design manual for practising aquaculturists and as a resource of current "state-of-the-art" methodologies associated with water reuse systems.

Book Environmental Management for Aquaculture

Download or read book Environmental Management for Aquaculture written by A. Midlen and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998-05-31 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the subject of pollution of natural waters by aquaculture has received considerable attention. With increasingly stringent regulation of wastewater quality from fish farms around the world, those involved in the industry need to be aware of the causes of pollution from fish and shellfish farms and of methods by which this pollution may be prevented. This book aims to bring the principles of wastewater treatment and other pollution control techniques for fish and shellfish farming to a wide audience of farmers, students, scientists and engineers; in fact anyone who works in aquaculture or pollution control. For this reason, the authors who have between them much experience in this area have written this important book with both the specialist and those new to the area in mind. As part of the growing Aquaculture Series, this title gives a comprehensive insight into this topic of vital importance to the aquaculture industry. This book should be on the shelves of all those involved in fish and shellfish farming and connected environmental issues, and available in universities and research establishments for students and professionals alike.

Book Advances in Aquaculture Hatchery Technology

Download or read book Advances in Aquaculture Hatchery Technology written by Geoff Allan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-02-19 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aquaculture is the fastest-growing food production sector in the world. With demand for seafood increasing at astonishing rates, the optimization of production methods is vital. One of the primary restrictions to continued growth is the supply of juveniles from hatcheries. Addressing these constraints, Advances in aquaculture hatchery technology provides a comprehensive, systematic guide to the use of current and emerging technologies in enhancing hatchery production.Part one reviews reproduction and larval rearing. Aquaculture hatchery water supply and treatment systems, principles of finfish broodstock management, genome preservation, and varied aspects of nutrition and feeding are discussed in addition to larval health management and microbial management for bacterial pathogen control. Closing the life-cycle and overcoming challenges in hatchery production for selected invertebrate species are the focus of part two, and advances in hatchery technology for spiny lobsters, shrimp, blue mussel, sea cucumbers and cephalopods are all discussed. Part three concentrates on challenges and successes in closing the life-cycle and hatchery production for selected fish species, including tuna, striped catfish, meagre, and yellowtail kingfish. Finally, part four explores aquaculture hatcheries for conservation and education. With its distinguished editors and international team of expert contributors, Advances in aquaculture hatchery technology is an authoritative review of the field for hatchery operators, scientists, marine conservators and educators. - Provides a comprehensive guide to the use of technologies in enhancing hatchery production - Examines reproduction and larval rearing, including genetic improvement and microdiets - Discusses challenges in hatchery production of specific species

Book The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2018

Download or read book The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2018 written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2018 edition of The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture emphasizes the sector’s role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, and measurement of progress towards these goals. It notes the particular contributions of inland and small-scale fisheries, and highlights the importance of rights-based governance for equitable and inclusive development. As in past editions, the publication begins with a global analysis of trends in fisheries and aquaculture production, stocks, processing and use, trade and consumption, based on the latest official statistics, along with a review of the status of the world’s fishing fleets and human engagement and governance in the sector. Topics explored in Parts 2 to 4 include aquatic biodiversity; the ecosystem approach to fisheries and to aquaculture; climate change impacts and responses; the sector’s contribution to food security and human nutrition; and issues related to international trade, consumer protection and sustainable value chains. Global developments in combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, selected ocean pollution concerns and FAO’s efforts to improve capture fishery data are also discussed. The issue concludes with the outlook for the sector, including projections to 2030. As always, The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture aims to provide objective, reliable and up-to- date information to a wide audience, including policy-makers, managers, scientists, stakeholders and indeed all those interested in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
