Book Water Quality and Environmental Management in Asia

Download or read book Water Quality and Environmental Management in Asia written by H. Utsumi and published by IWA Publishing (International Water Assoc). This book was released on 2002-05-31 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected Proceedings of Asian Waterqual 2001, the IWA Asia-Pacific Regional Conference, held in Fukuoka, Japan, 12-15 September 2001. The world's growing population and its rising water consumption are greatly increasing the pressure on water resources; growing wastewater discharges and expanding use of chemicals are severely affecting the water environment. The new millennium confronts the water management profession and society in general with a set of challenges of unprecedented magnitude and complexity, and many of these worldwide problems are seen at their most acute in Asia. The 8th Asian Waterqual conference provided a major forum to address these issues; these selected proceedings contain 73 high-quality papers chosen after peer review. Subjects covered include: drinking water quality, treatment and distribution; wastewater treatment and reuse; environmental remediation, ecotoxicology in the aquatic environment; hazard assessment and control of microbiology; hazard assessment of micropollutants and endocrine disruptors; water quality monitoring and modeling; ecological modeling and simulation; and water resources management and protection. These papers tackle the challenges of water management, reporting scientific and technological innovations and the institutional and administrative strategies required. These proceedings will prove a major information resource for any scientist, engineer, practitioner or regulator with an interest in water quality and environmental management.

Book Water Quality Policy and Management in Asia

Download or read book Water Quality Policy and Management in Asia written by Cecilia Tortajada and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asia's 48 countries have an estimated 1.757 billion urban population and 2.4 billion people in rural areas (or approximately 60 per cent of the global population). Divided into central, eastern, southern, south-eastern and western regions, the continent is also extremely heterogeneous in terms of water quality conditions. The policies and management practices vary significantly from one country to another, and even within one country, depending on specific economic, political, social, environmental, legal and institutional factors. In order to appreciate the complexities associated with water quality policy and management, it is important to acknowledge the multiplicity of interrelated and often conflicting events, issues, actors and interests, both within and outside the water sector that impact them. This complexity, alongside institutional inability for systematic and coordinated collaboration, are potent reasons as to why, in the second decade of the 21st century, formulation and implementation of efficient water quality management policies benefitting humankind and the environment have still not been achieved. The book was originally published as a special issue of the International Journal of Water Resources Development.

Book Trends in Asian Water Environmental Science and Technology

Download or read book Trends in Asian Water Environmental Science and Technology written by Futoshi Kurisu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-29 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together and integrates contributions on water quality modeling, monitoring and assessment techniques; wastewater treatment technologies; and sociological approaches in a single text. Divided into twenty chapters, it offers a comprehensive reference for students, professionals and researchers working on various aspects of water environment technology. The papers published in this book – selected from those presented at the 1st International Forum on Asian Water Environment Technology, held in 2013 in New Delhi, India – highlight the water environmental problems in Asia and respective countermeasures. This book addresses water quality requirements, emphasizing the factors that affect the water environment. Treated wastewater as a new source of water is also examined, introducing readers to important aspects of water reuse. Selecting the most effective and proper wastewater treatment approach is actually the most essential part of generating a new water resource, as well as protecting the receiving water environments. Thus, the fundamental principles of wastewater treatment and monitoring are a major focus in this book, which is intended to help readers effectively address various water environmental problems in Asian countries.

Book Water Quality Management and the Environment in Asia

Download or read book Water Quality Management and the Environment in Asia written by Chongrak Polprasert and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2004-05-31 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected Proceedings of Asian Waterqual 2003, the IWA Asia-Pacific Regional Conference, held in Bangkok, Thailand, 19-23 October 2003. In many of Asia's rapidly developing countries with their focus on economic and industrial development there has been a marked deterioration in the quality of natural water resources. This poses significant challenges that must be tackled by concerted improvements in water resources management, wastewater treatment and the protection and remediation of the water environment. While some of these issues are well on the way to solution, many issues - both managerial and technological - still require urgent attention. These challenges motivated five hundred delegates from 29 countries to attend Asian Waterqual 2003, with its large programme of oral and poster presentations. Following a rigorous peer review 28 of the very best papers presented have been selected for these proceedings. They cover the topics of wastewater and sludge treatment and management, industrial wastewaters, innovative treatments, instrumentation, drinking water, and environmental remediation, and will prove highly valuable for research scientists and environmental engineers and managers both in the Asian region and the rest of the world.

Book Southeast Asian Water Environment 1

Download or read book Southeast Asian Water Environment 1 written by S. Ohgaki and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2005-12-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southeast Asia has undergone rapid commercial and industrial development over the past half century, which continues to bring economic stability and prosperity to its inhabitants. The combined impacts of population growth, urbanization, and industrialization continue to put pressure on the natural resources and the environment. At the same time, globalization is another momentous challenge for the region. Southeast Asian megacities are some of the most dynamic and diverse regions, which are playing a key role in achieving global sustainability. Twelve out of nineteen megacities of the world are located in the region, where highly developed areas coexist with poorly developing areas where large economic growth is expected. The poor quality of the living standards of the latter creates many environmental problems that are major threats to the inhabitants of the region. The Southeast Asian environment has been degraded by the release of industrial and domestic wastes, agricultural and aquacultural chemicals, and pollutants from automobiles. It suffers from water-related disasters, Tsunami, floods, typhoons, etc. In order to deal with these issues an integrated approach from the inhibitants, governments and researchers is essential. The environmental threats arising from the increasing population, overuse of natural resources, industrialization, urbanization, and natural disasters present ever increasing challenges to pursuing sustainable development of the region. Many developed countries such as Japan have experiences of dealing with severe environmental pollution and this publication is the result of building an academic network among researchers of related fields from different regions to exchange information. This book will be an invaluable source of information for all those concerned with achieving global sustainability within the water environment in developing regions, including researchers, policy makers, NGOs and NPOs.

Book Asian Water Development Outlook 2020

Download or read book Asian Water Development Outlook 2020 written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Asian Water Development Outlook (AWDO) 2020 assesses national water security across Asia and the Pacific, focusing on five key dimensions: rural, economic, urban, environmental, and water-related disaster. Despite considerable achievements in Asia and the Pacific since the AWDO 2013 edition, 1.5 billion people in rural areas and 0.6 billion in urban areas still lack adequate water supply and sanitation. Sound water management and access to reliable service delivery remain vital to inclusive economic growth and social well-being, especially after the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. This edition includes two new sections highlighting the importance of finance and governance to water security as well as case studies demonstrating how the AWDO has influenced policy development in four countries.
