Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The federal government is the world's largest and most complex entity, with about $3.5 trillion in outlays in the fiscal year of 2010, funding a broad array of programs and operations. This book examines government operations that have been identified as high risk due to their greater vulnerabilities to fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement or the need for transformation to address the economy, efficiency or effectiveness challenges. Since 1990, there have been over 50 areas designated as high risk and subsequently removed. Solutions to high risk problems offer the potential to save billions of dollars, improve service to the public, and strengthen the performance and accountability of the U.S. government.

Book Preventing Waste Fraud Abuse and Mismanagement in Homeland Security A Gao High Risk List Review

Download or read book Preventing Waste Fraud Abuse and Mismanagement in Homeland Security A Gao High Risk List Review written by Committee on Homeland Security House of and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the Department of Homeland Security's mission is critical, it is also critical that it keeps its finances in check because in order to protect the homeland we must maximize every dollar spent. Almost as soon as the Department's creation, the Government Accountability Office placed some of DHS's programs on its high-risk list, and today many remain. This list is developed every 2 years by watchdogs at GAO to identify areas in the Federal Government that are high-risk to fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement, or are in the most need of broad reform. It is intended to draw attention to these areas to force agency leaders to improve. Unfortunately some of the programs identified include some of the Department's core functions such as acquisitions, management, financial management, information technology, human capital and management integration, as well as multi-agency challenges such as information sharing and cybersecurity. While the Department has devoted time to addressing GAO's high-risk areas, these reports continue to show examples of programs ignoring best practices and putting taxpayer dollars at risk.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does government fraud, waste, abuse, and corruption make your blood boil? In The Art of the Watchdog, Daniel L. Feldman and David R. Eichenthal show how to fight back. Based on their own work in federal, state, and local government over the last forty years, they will arm you with the tools and techniques needed to put the spotlight on those who cheat and steal from the public or who squander valuable taxpayer dollars through waste and inefficiency. At the same time, Feldman and Eichenthal outline what they see as the good and the bad of current oversight efforts based on case studies from across the nation. Book Healthcare Fraud Corruption and Waste in Europe

Download or read book Healthcare Fraud Corruption and Waste in Europe written by Misja Mikkers and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lack of well-documented, factual information on fraud, waste and corruption in the healthcare sector is an important ally for those who would seek to abuse healthcare systems for their own profit. Our lack of knowledge of the incidence, nature and extent of fraud, waste and corruption in healthcare is a threat to the establishment of effective counter-fraud strategies. It prevents those who finance healthcare provision from understanding in clear and quantifiable terms the need to invest resources into counter-fraud activities. As a consequence, fraud remains a matter of moral hazard and healthcare systems continue to suffer considerable financial damage, as well as all the associated consequences for the quality of care that patients receive. It was for these reasons that the 'European Healthcare Fraud and Corruption Network' (EHFCN) and the 'Dutch Healthcare Authority' (NZa, member of EHFCN) decided to collaborate to publish this book... --

Book Corporate Corruption

  • Author : Marshall Clinard

Download or read book Corporate Corruption written by Marshall Clinard and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1990-03-23 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the media have been full of stories about ethical decline. Illegal dealings have been uncovered in the banking and savings and loan industries as well as the highest levels of Congress and government administration. Even television evangelism has been seriously tarnished by scandal. Corporate Corruption is the first wide ranging book to turn the spotlight on the unethical and illegal behavior of America's giant corporations and their executives: the prestigious Fortune 500. While avoiding the undignified zealotry of tabloid muck-raking, this well-researched volume explores corporate abuse and examines the disparity between the facts of corporate misconduct and the glowing image that advertising and other media portray of these corporations. Marshall Clinard identifies the auto, oil, pharmaceutical, and defense industries as the major offenders. He devotes a chapter to each of these areas in addition to chapters on corporate violence, corporate bribery, and a final discussion of how to correct these widespread abuses. Although their massive productive capacities and innovative powers have contributed immeasurably to the high standard of living that many Americans enjoy, far too often corporations have abused the public trust, the people who use their products, their own employees and stockholders, the environment, and even the Third World that they profess to help. From illegally disposing of hazardous waste to defiance of health and safety standards to price-fixing, corporate violations cost hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of lives. The magnitude of their offenses becomes clear when one considers that a single corporate offense may run into millions of dollars in losses, while the average cost of a burglary is $600 and the average larceny $400. In some cases, the cost of a single case of corporate misconduct may exceed a billion dollars. Having published three earlier books on corporate misbehavior and having received two grants from the U.S. Department of Justice to make specific corporate studies, Clinard is well-qualified to bring insight, experience, and unblinking scrutiny to what he describes as a story that must be told. Corporate Corruption is a must for anyone concerned about the widespread breakdown of ethics in contemporary society and the role played by large corporations when they abuse their power. It is also of interest to persons involved in business management, complex organizations, criminology, general ethics, and, in fact, to any responsible customer.
