Download or read book Kashmir Dispute written by Dr Shabir Choudhry and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-09-26 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kashmir dispute has to be seen as human issue, and not as a territorial gain, or a strategic advantage. Like anyone else, I have no solution to this dispute that could be acceptable to all concerned, but I know what is not workable and what will not provide much desired peace and stability in the region: and that is division of the State or its accession to any country. Kashmir dispute should not be used to settle score of the past tragedies or past adventures, for example, to avenge problems of 1965, 1971, 1980s, proxy war or Kargil adventure. Also Kashmir should not be used as a battleground for competing political and religious ideologies, as it is happening on both sides of the divide. Jammu and Kashmir is a multi-religious and multi ethnic former Princely State. All citizens of Jammu and Kashmir - Pundits, Sikhs, Buddhists, Shias, Ismahilies, pro Pakistan, pro India and pro- independence, and others must have equal rights; and we must not target any community for their beliefs. We must put the past behind us and make a new start by inviting pundits and others who were uprooted from their homes because of political, communal and armed conflict back in to their homes and compensate their losses. We must build bridges of confidence and make sincere endeavours to eradicate extremism, violence, religious intolerance and hatred. However, if these war mongers and fanatics are not brought under control then my fear is that they will endanger peace, stability and future of the entire region. So time is running out, and those in position to take appropriate action, must act and act soon.

Book Shadow War The Untold Story of Jihad in Kashmir

Download or read book Shadow War The Untold Story of Jihad in Kashmir written by Arif Jamal and published by . This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly sixty years, India and Pakistan have battled over the territory of Kashmir. The two nuclear-armed states have fought three bloody wars in the region, but the countries have also fought in the shadows. Having interviewed a thousand militants in war-torn Kashmir, Arif Jamal presents a news-breaking account of Pakistan's secret battles with India. From the early 1980s, when the Kashmiri conflict lurked in the background of the CIA's proxy war in Afghanistan, to the eruption of insurgent violence in 1988, to recent Kashmiri connections to terrorist financing and training, Jamal brings much to light. Shadow Wars reveals that the Pakistani miitary has trained nearly half a million insurgents and, as a matter of defense policy, continued the conflict in Kashmir at great human cost. Jamal also documents how CIA money destined for the Afghan mujahideen was funneled to Kashmiri jihadis, leading to a twenty-year insurgency rarely discussed in Western media.

Book The Crisis in Kashmir

Download or read book The Crisis in Kashmir written by Šumit Ganguly and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-02-13 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book traces the origins of the insurgency in Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir. The first theoretically-grounded account, and the most complete, it is based on extensive interviews. Ganguly's central argument is that the insurgency can be explained by political mobilization and institutional decay. In an attempt to woo the Muslims, the government dramatically expanded literacy, mass media, and higher education. Meanwhile, fearing potential secessionist proclivities, it stifled the development of political institutions. Unable to express dissent in an institutional context, the Kashmiris resorted to violence.

Download or read book The Lost Rebellion written by Manoj Joshi and published by Penguin Group. This book was released on 1999 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inside story of the insurgency in Kashmir The militant rebellion that began in Kashmir in the winter of 1989 has left about 20,000 dead, many injured and countless traumatized. In this first book-length study of the rebellion, Manoj Joshi narrates how a simple call for azadi by bands of disgruntled youth was transformed within a year into a full-scale jehad against India. Joshiýs chronicle dwells at length on Pakistanýs proxy war against India and the atrocities perpetrated by the Afghan mercenaries. It also exposes hitherto unknown facets of the US position on Kashmir and investigates sensitive issues like the alleged mass rape at Kunan Poshpora, the infamous alley deaths and the abduction of four foreigners by the mysterious Al Faran militant outfit. Examining the official attempts to curb the rebellion, Joshi is unsparing in his criticism of the political bungling and bureaucratic ineptitude which have hamstrung the fight against insurgency. Giving a raw, compelling edge to the book are the accounts of the many hapless victims of the rebellion. Meticulously researched, The Lost Rebellion is a riveting account of the human drama that lies at the heart of the crisis that is Kashmir.

Download or read book Kashmir in Conflict written by Victoria Schofield and published by I.B. Tauris. This book was released on 2000-01-24 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After 20 years of insurgency, Kashmir continues to be a major flashpoint and decisive factor in destabilising regional relations. Resolving the dispute over the state of Jammu and Kashmir is crucial to achieving peace and stability, without which the US Af-Pak strategy is unlikely to succeed. With international eyes focused on South Asia, understanding what is at stake in Kashmir has never been more important. For decades, the dispute over the valley of Kashmir, famed for its beauty and tranquility, has determined much of Pakistan's and India's foreign policy. With the state, located between two nuclear-armed nations, and India blaming Pakistani militants for the 2008 terrorist attacks on Mumbai, the potentially wider implications of the conflict are higher than ever on the international agenda. This fully updated edition of Kashmir in Conflict offers a highly readable, carefully documented account of the origins, development and implications of this contentious issue. Beginning with the early history of the independent kingdom of Kashmir, Victoria Schofield traces the origins of the modern state in the nineteenth century, including the controversial 'sale' by the British of predominantly Muslim Kashmir to a Hindu ruler. She examines the implications for the people when in 1947 the Maharaja chose secular, yet majority Hindu, India over Muslim Pakistan and shows why the neighbouring countries continue to argue over the status of Jammu and Kashmir which, according to recommendations... passed by the UN, was to be determined by the will of the people.
