Book Walter Wanderley

Download or read book Walter Wanderley written by Fernando Torres and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is characterized as the result of an ethnomusicological and historical research by Recife musician Walter Wanderley (1932-1986), known as a representative of Bossa Nova. Organist, pianist, arranger and sporadic composer, Walter Wanderley has released dozens of records on record labels such as Odeon, Philips, the American company Verve and many others, both as an instrumentalist and arranger for singers and as solo instrumental albums. Even with such a robust record production, Walter Wanderley seems to have been forgotten by most records in the History of Brazilian Popular Music. This book tries to help understand how this success happened predominantly only outside his country of origin and the reasons why his name was practically omitted by historiography and by important references of Bossa Nova. As was his performance in other genres such as Samba, Bolero, Sambalanço and Sambajazz, which are much more present in his work than Bossa Nova itself, a genre for which the artist came to be labeled as representative, especially after his death. The book makes a contribution to the construction of knowledge for Ethnomusicology, Musicology and other areas of study of Brazilian Popular Music in its relations with the cultural industry and with the aspects between Memory and Forgetfulness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tiki torches, cocktails, la dolce vita, and the music that popularized them—Mondo Exotica offers a behind-the-scenes look at the sounds and obsessions of the Space Age and Cold War period as well as the renewed interest in them evident in contemporary music and design. The music journalist and radio host Francesco Adinolfi provides extraordinary detail about artists, songs, albums, and soundtracks, while also presenting an incisive analysis of the ethnic and cultural stereotypes embodied in exotica and related genres. In this encyclopedic account of films, books, TV programs, mixed drinks, and above all music, he balances a respect for exotica’s artistic innovations with a critical assessment of what its popularity says about postwar society in the United States and Europe, and what its revival implies today. Adinolfi interviewed a number of exotica greats, and Mondo Exotica incorporates material from his interviews with Martin Denny, Esquivel, the Italian film composers Piero Piccioni and Piero Umiliani, and others. It begins with an extended look at the postwar popularity of exotica in the United States. Adinolfi describes how American bachelors and suburbanites embraced the Polynesian god Tiki as a symbol of escape and sexual liberation; how Les Baxter’s album Ritual of the Savage (1951) ushered in the exotica music craze; and how Martin Denny’s Exotica built on that craze, hitting number one in 1957. Adinolfi chronicles the popularity of performers from Yma Sumac, “the Peruvian Nightingale,” to Esquivel, who was described by Variety as “the Mexican Duke Ellington,” to the chanteuses Eartha Kitt, Julie London, and Ann-Margret. He explores exotica’s many sub-genres, including mood music, crime jazz, and spy music. Turning to Italy, he reconstructs the postwar years of la dolce vita, explaining how budget spy films, spaghetti westerns, soft-core porn movies, and other genres demonstrated an attraction to the foreign. Mondo Exotica includes a discography of albums, compilations, and remixes.

The book provides a concise description and, to a lesser extent, analysis of the main features of service contracts of the types commonly used in the oil and gas industry. Writers and editors come from different legal traditions and practice in different jurisdictions, including UK, Iran, Brazil and Mexico. Service contracts are as broad as their name suggests, comprising a wide array of contracts. However, a clear distinction exists between contracts where one party to the contract is a sovereign state or neither is. This has been the basis for organizing the present book in two parts.

Book Narrative Genre and Ideology in Video Games

Download or read book Narrative Genre and Ideology in Video Games written by Bruna Pickler and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2024-01-10 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sheds light on gender politics and structures of power that can be found in new media, as a single structure that can be found in any game. This book brings to the public an academic dissertation, that was written to grant a Master's Degree to its author. It aims to produce knowledge regarding the modern video game medium by analyzing the narrative pertaining to one such game. To be written, a game was played and replayed to its whole extension, and analyzed throughout. The game is used as a contemporary example of the cultural form. The dissertation focuses on the narrative structure of the text using the theoretical work of Vladimir Propp and the ideas he develops in Morphology of Folktale (1968). This book argues that the morphology identified by Propp as being present in traditional folk narratives can also be found in a contemporary electronic cultural text. It also identifies and discusses issues regarding character development, the relationships between archetypes and categories, the allocation of tasks to the players within the story-as-game, the characteristics of the temporal development of the narrative, the significance and roles of the main characters, and the extent to which gender politics informs the narrative of this contemporary video game. "The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it. ― Roseanne Barr

This book was released on 2022-07-08 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall objective of this research is to develop a decision support framework for preventive maintenance program implementations in the offshore operational environment of the oil and gas industry. The author investigates the problems surrounding the maintenance decision-making process, which elements are systematically identified and categorized, including organizational aspects. The interface with operations is considered in order to promote integration between maintenance and production schedules. The research subjacent objectives have been to identify, among major oil and gas offshore operators, the state-of-practices regarding the maintenance decision-making process and identify, in the literature, the main techniques used for maintenance decisions and optimization in order to propose alternatives for supporting future implementations. Through a Systems Engineering approach, assisted by a literature review, interviews with experts (in Norway and in Brazil), an on-line survey and case studies, the results of this research complement a toolkit for maintenance engineers and managers aiming to facilitate information sharing and interdisciplinary cooperation in the operational environment. Among the results: A concept map for the maintenance decision-making process ontology; A plan for PM program implementations; The suggested cross-sector solution: the minimum equipment list; A Markovian dependability nomogram; and A Markov decision model application.

Book Information Systems Architecture for University Hospitals

Download or read book Information Systems Architecture for University Hospitals written by Silvano Herculano da Luz Júnior and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2022-11-21 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The implementation of the Information Systems (IS) Architecture is one of the steps in the construction of the Enterprise Architecture (EA), according to The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), and can bring notable benefits in supporting the management and governance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in organizations, including of health. However, this task is usually followed by several challenges, even more so when we refer to University Hospitals (HU), which are hospitals dedicated to teaching, research, and extension. The purpose of this book is to disseminate an empirical research whose methodological course was carried out in three phases: 1- an extensive Systematic Literature Review, based on 9 specific research questions, to explore the state of the art of the application of EA in health. 2- proposed the 5tep Model, with five well-defined steps to help the implementation of the IS Architecture in HUs. 3- practical application of the 5tep Model together with TOGAF 9.2 and the Archi tool to build and deliver the IS Architecture of a large HU which seeks to improve the provision of services to the population through investments in ICT. As result, in addition to relevant data to the literature on EA and IS through the SLR and the 5tep Model, the delivered IS Architecture for this UH offers a holistic view of the entire ICT, in which identified problems, challenges, possible solutions, and critical success factors for the hospital business.

Book Spectral method for fatigue damage estimation with non zero mean stress

Download or read book Spectral method for fatigue damage estimation with non zero mean stress written by Pedro H. Alves Corrêa and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis consists of a fatigue study carried out on an aluminum alloy 2024-T3 in both time domain and frequency domain. Non-zero mean random signals of strain and stress are analyzed in time domain using usual Rainflow method and the damage is accumulated with the Palmgren-Miner rule, according to mean stress equations. The signals are analyzed in frequency domain using the power spectral density and the probability density function. The spectral domain analysis does not consider the negative effect of the mean stress in metal life under fatigue, so the correction factors for mean stresses developed by Goodman, Morrow, and Smith-Watson-Topper are used to change the power spectral density and, thus, the damage calculated by the probability density functions postulated by Dirlik and Tovo and Benasciutti. It is found that both Dirlik and Tovo and Benasciutti are non-conservative for a non-zero mean stress signal when comparing the damage to the one obtained in time domain analysis. When the spectral method is corrected, the results vary from Rainflow 4.9% for wide band and 6.8% for narrow band signals, always in the conservative zone, therefore predicting more damage. Tovo and Benasciutti 2 method is found to be the spectral function with the closest results when compared to the usual Rainflow method in time domain.

This book was released on 2024-06-12 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an increasingly interconnected world, rules of origin—laws determining the national source of a product—play a crucial role in international trade. Yet, with each country setting its own standards, the global market faces a complex web of regulations that often impedes rather than facilitates trade. "The Urgent Call for Harmonizing Preferential Rules of Origin" by Hatem Mabrouk delves into these complexities and challenges. The book reveals how preferential rules of origin, designed to determine eligibility for tariff preferences under trade agreements, are often manipulated for protectionist and political aims, creating significant obstacles for global producers and traders. Through rigorous analysis and case studies, Mabrouk explores the detrimental impacts of these systems and proposes a harmonized approach aligned with the World Trade Organization to streamline and improve international trade practices. Mabrouk's proposal offers a robust blueprint for policymakers and trade bodies to refine global trade mechanisms. "The Urgent Call for Harmonizing Preferential Rules of Origin" is essential reading for anyone involved in international trade or global economics, advocating for clearer and fairer trade regulations to enhance global economic prosperity.

Download or read book Some Faces of True Love written by Carlos Roberto Carvalho and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2024-06-24 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many times in life do we attempt to decipher those moments of ecstasy when love happens? This overwhelming feeling surrounding us becomes so real that it gives us the illusory sensation of being concrete and palpable. We know we have it, and we regret it when it disappears, but, unfortunately, we have no way to imprison it. We will never tire of the desire not to believe that its manifestation is involuntary. However, we can consider ourselves fortunate to be eternal hunters endowed with extreme sensitivity to detect its nuances. In this book, twelve short stories are presented with different engaging scenarios and, apparently, disconnected from the theme. These short stories, however, do not present novel plots, as the title might suggest. The main objective of the narratives is to immerse the reader in different and genuine ways in which pure love manifests itself. At the end of each chapter, the reader is challenged to reflect on whether the feelings involved, hidden in a subtle way, are some faces of true love.
