Book Walpajirri the Legend of an Easter Bilby

Download or read book Walpajirri the Legend of an Easter Bilby written by M. E. Skeel and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the adventures of a rabbit-eared bandicoot, also called a bilby. Bilbies are rare marsupials that live in the desert. They and many other rare species are endangered because of introduced animals such as rabbits, cats, and foxes. It is important that people learn about our native wildlife species so that they understand the importance of protecting them. This book was written with this in mind. In the author’s opinion, it is much more interesting to learn about animals by reading about their adventures than to read dry scientific information. This is a real-life story in the style of Watership Down, where the animals act as they would in nature. The Easter Bilby concept is not new, but this is an Easter Bilby story that stays true to the nature of these animals. Jirri does not wear a suit and speak English. There is an Easter connection, but it is woven into the story of an animal fighting to survive in a hostile environment. It is the story of the triumph of life in difficult circumstances and has a message of hope for all who read it. You and your children will learn about bilbies and many other rare and endangered species while enjoying the adventures of Jirri, a true Easter Bilby.

Book excerpt: The series African Sorceress is set in the 1600s in what is now Ghana. In volume 1, A Warrior is Forged, the heroine, Kisa, grows up in a village hidden in the forest from the slave traders who were ravaging the countryside for victims. After the slavers find the village for the first time, the old village sorceress, Grandmother, trains Kisa to fight them with the help of magic and sorcery. After the second raid, when Kisa’s beloved father is taken, Grandmother enlists Kisa with the help of the Black Samurai, who returns from Japan to train Kisa to be a warrior. When the slavers return for the third time, Kisa and the villagers are ready, and the war against the slave masters begins. What if there was a great African sorceress who tried to save her people from the slave traders? How would we know from conventional history, which teaches only a white- and male-centered views of history? Africa does have a history and quite an amazing one. And what if women were not always suppressed? And what if their powers were of the earth, water, wind, and fire and not just witch doctor hokum? This book is historical fiction. The history of the Atlantic slave trade is history. As for the great prophetess who I heard about from one man in Africa, who knows? For me, she has come to life in the person of Kisa. If you like heroic stories set in real historical times, read this book.

Book Platypus Dreaming

Download or read book Platypus Dreaming written by M. E. Skeel and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Platypus Dreaming is a real-life animal adventure story about one of the world’s most mysterious animals. It is rare for Australians to even see a platypus in the wild, let alone have the chance to touch one. In this book, we get to know a platypus called Lucky, her family, and all the wondrous creatures that share her life on the river. The author draws from her own life experiences as an Australian naturalist and wildlife rescuer to tell the story of one very resilient creature. It is a fictionalized account of the life and adventures of a female platypus that is full of fascinating facts and is told in a very unique voice. The author combines elements of adventure, romance, self-discovery, humour, and family values, along with fascinating biological facts about a platypus. It provides solid learning based on a beautiful story. Photographs of the real-life Lucky illustrate this poignant account of the survival of this unique animal against all odds. Platypus Dreaming takes the reader on an Australian adventure without leaving home. It is a real-life story in the style of Watership Down and Ring of Bright Water, where the animals act as they would in nature. If you or your children love true-to-life animal adventure stories, then read Platypus Dreaming. You won’t be disappointed. “I love the wildlife-rescuer style of telling a story. Lucky’s story has everything. There are real facts woven into an adventure that you have to keep reading to make sure that Lucky and her male friend can endure. There are also real photos of the animals that are the heroes of this story. Or is the hero the author herself?” (Verified Amazon review by Otakara Kliettke, May 21, 2016). “An amazing, wonderful book! If all you read are the introduction and chapter one, you’ll marvel at the Australian aboriginal stories and the natural history of the platypus. Then begins the story of one particular platypus named Lucky, whose rescue from near death by the author inspired the tale. Photographs of the real-life Lucky illustrate this poignant account of the survival of this animal against all odds” (Lynn W.).

Book Theology and the Soul of the Liberal State

Download or read book Theology and the Soul of the Liberal State written by Leonard V. Kaplan and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2010 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rising calls in both the United States and abroad for theologizing national agendas have renewed examinations about whether liberal states can accommodate such programs without either endangering citizens' rights or trivializing religious concerns. Conventional wisdom suggests that theology is necessarily unfriendly to the liberal state, but neither philosophical analysis nor empirical argument has convincingly established that conclusion. Examining the problem from a variety of perspectives including law, philosophy, history, political theory, and religious studies, the essays in Theology and the Soul of the Liberal State suggest the possibilities for and limits on what theological reflection might contribute to liberal polities across the globe. Theology and the Soul of the Liberal State develops these issues under five headings. Part One explores 'The Nature of Religious Argument' as it can inflect discussions of public policy, political theory, jurisprudence, and education. Part Two, 'Theologies of the Marketplace,' notes that theology can by turns be highly critical, neutral, or even inordinately supportive of market operations. Part Three, 'European Perspectives,' reviews and develops arguments from Abraham Kuyper, Karl Barth, and French post-modernists concerning how one might integrate theological discourse into the public sphere. Part Four offers Israel, Pakistan and Tibet as 'Asian Perspectives' on how theology may comport with liberalism in recently created states (or, in the last case, a diasporic government-in-exile) where powerful religious constituencies make 'secular' civil action extremely problematic. Finally, Part V, 'Religion and Terror,' probes the vexed relationship between conceptions of divine and human justice, where the imperatives of theology and state confront each other most nakedly. Collectively, Theology and the Soul of the Liberal State suggests that the liberal state cannot keep theology out of public discourse and may even benefit from its intervention, but that their intersection, if potentially beneficial, is always fraught.
