Book Pests and Their Management

Download or read book Pests and Their Management written by Omkar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-01 with total page 1075 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively compiles information on some of the major pests that afflict agricultural, horticultural and medicinal crops in particular as well as many polyphagous pests. Not only does this book deal with the pests of common globally produced crops it also addresses those of rarely dealt with crops such as seed spices, medicinal and aromatic plants. While the perspective of insect pests is largely Indian and South East Asian in context, the book does deal with globally problematic pests, particularly polyphagous ones. Not only will the readers be acquainted with the pests, their damaging potential and their life cycle but also with the latest methods of managements including ecofriendly measures being employed to keep pest populations at manageable levels. The 27 chapters in the book, are grouped into four sections primarily based on crop types, viz. pest of agricultural, horticultural and medicinal crops, and polyphagous pests, making the book easy to navigate. Each of the chapters is comprehensive and well illustrated and written by academicians who have dedicated their entire lives to the study of a particular crop-pest complex. The final chapter of this book provides an overview on the principles and processes of pest management.

Book Two Fungal Diseases Spreading and Endangering Walnut Species

Download or read book Two Fungal Diseases Spreading and Endangering Walnut Species written by Rebecca G. Nisley and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invasive fungal diseases and insects are assaulting hardwood tree species in our eastern forests. Although the insects receive more attention (they are more visible after all), scientists, foresters, and environmentalists are concerned that invasive fungi are endangering many hardwoods, with fungus-caused canker diseases the most destructive. Trees that produce mastbeechnuts, butternuts, walnuts, and acorns, which are food sources for many animalsare especially at risk. The most tragic example is the American chestnut, once the "queen of the eastern forests," which has essentially been extirpated in the wild in its native range because of the canker disease chestnut blight."

Book Insects and Diseases of Mediterranean Forest Systems

Download or read book Insects and Diseases of Mediterranean Forest Systems written by Timothy D. Paine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-06 with total page 888 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insect and disease issues are often specific to the Mediterranean forest systems rather than shared with the temperate forests. In addition to the specific native insects and diseases, the forests are subject to the invasion of exotic species. The forests are also at risk from high degrees of human activity, including changing patterns of forest fires, land management activities, intensive plantation forestry using introduced timber species from other Mediterranean climate zones, and atmospheric deposition. Combined with elements of global climate change that may disproportionately affect Mediterranean climate systems, this creates a number of significant management issues that are unique to the Mediterranean forests. It is our goal that the information contained in this volume will contribute to understanding the unique aspects of Mediterranean forest systems and to protecting these critical resources.
