Book Walking with Jesus Through Lent and Easter

Download or read book Walking with Jesus Through Lent and Easter written by Murray McBride and published by Barnabas. This book was released on 2009 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walking with Jesus though Lent and Easter is designed to help adults and children to prepare for Easter together by entering a 'visual pilgrimage' - a spiritual exploration through Lent that culminates with the celebration of Easter. Each creative and thought-provoking reflection invites adults and children to share the journey at their own level by making a special time in the day to reflect on the Easter story. As we prayerfully join Jesus on a spiritual journey, we may pause a while and consider not only the choices set before Jesus but the choices that we make in life. The material is ideal for families and church-based children's groups. The seven weekly themes each unpack different aspects of Jesus' ministry, starting with the call to follow him and focusing on key aspects of this teaching, including miracles, parables and mission. Each theme helpfully provides five days' worth of material until Holy Week is reached, whereupon there is a reflection for each of these special days concluding with Easter Day itself. Each daily reflection is accompanied by a photocopiable illustration, designed to draw participants deeper into the Lenten journey as they colour in this part of the story. Each illustration then builds into a storyboard frieze that can be hung on the wall or unfolded on the floor, where the gospel story gradually unfolds in a memorable visual drama. Walking with Jesus though Lent and Easter was written when Murray McBride left parish ministry to become a full-time minister in the Royal Army Chaplains Department. The daily refl3ections are based on the experiences of his first twelve months in the army while on operational tour in Iraq. During this time, Murray felt strongly that his experience in some way echoed the adventure and uncertainty of the first disciples as they left the security of home and responded to the life-changing call to follow Jesus on a journey of faith.

Book Walking To Walking With Walking Through

Download or read book Walking To Walking With Walking Through written by Glenn E. Ludwig and published by Css Publishing Company. This book was released on 1994 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Someday... Someday... perhaps the impact of God's grace and love and forgiveness will move us in the depths of our being to live the new life he offers for us. Someday. Maybe, this day. -- from the Lent 5 sermon Glenn E. Ludwig writes that Lent has often been called a journey, and what better metaphor to describe that journey than a "walk." We truly "walk to" Jerusalem in this season. But we do not walk alone, for we walk with One who calls us into discipleship. The author adds that these sermons invite us to walk with Jesus through death to life. The walk is a journey that changes our lives. The seventeen sermons in this book are based on gospel texts from Luke and John. Sermons follow the Revised Common Episcopal, Lutheran, and Roman Catholic lectionaries. Glenn E. Ludwig is senior pastor of First Lutheran Church, Elliot Chit, Maryland. He served as chaplain to Susquehanna University, his alma mater, for five years previously. He is the author of three books on youth ministry and has been a keynote speaker at over 100 youth events in the United States and Canada.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping and with mourning; mend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing. -Joel 2:12-13 This famous passage of scripture proclaimed each Ash Wednesday provides the themes and sets the environment for the holy season of Lent. In its wisdom the Christian church provides its members a forty day period of preparation, emphasizing prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, for the great celebration of the Paschal Mystery, the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We who are privileged to bear the name Christian must use this annual time of renewal to reconnect ourselves to our God, the source of all that is good. Through a process of study, reflection, and discussion on the scripture passages that the church uses in its Sunday celebrations during this special time, an environment can be provided for us to discover and foster the renewal we all need. It is hoped that Walking the Journey of Lent: Reflections on the Scriptures for Cycle A provides this specific opportunity. This Lenten Bible study can be a helpful and effective way for groups and individuals to reflect upon the scriptures and through this process prepare ourselves better for the greatest of all celebrations, Easter, when Jesus rises from the dead and brings all Christians the possibility of salvation. Like any effort in life that is meritorious, this Bible study will require some effort, but it need not and should not be a burden. Rather, in sharing with others, and allowing the Spirit of God to flow through us, we can come to greater insights as to what the scriptures might mean for us and how, most importantly, we can apply them to our lives. Book Walking in the Wilderness

Download or read book Walking in the Wilderness written by Beth A. Richardson and published by Upper Room Books. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People of faith are struggling these days as they watch unbelievable events unfold. The United States, once a refuge for immigrants, has closed its borders to many of the world's most vulnerable citizens. Fear of people different from us has created an atmosphere of hatred, incivility, and violence. We are living in a time of wilderness and exile. Yet the wilderness is a familiar place for those who follow Jesus. Like Jesus, we spend 40 days in the wilderness. During Lent God calls us to examine ourselves, repent, and make room in our lives for the Holy One. Walking in the Wilderness is meant to be a companion for readers' journey through Lent. It may be studied by individuals or groups. The book includes daily reflections for Ash Wednesday through Easter. Sunday of each week introduces a spiritual practice for the wilderness. The practices for the six Sundays of Lent are Being Present, Lament, Lectio Divina, Trust, Compassion, and Hospitality. Each reading contains a quotation from an Upper Room resource, a short scripture passage, an insightful reflection and prayer written by Richardson, and a single word for readers to carry with them throughout the day. "We come hungry to this season of Lent," Richardson writes, "hungry for words of life, for rituals of preparation, for disciplines to help us on our way." Walking in the Wilderness provides a spiritual feast for readers during the longest season of the Christian year.
