Richard Gribble, CSC uses this unlikely image and many others to help the reader and Bible student discern more about what it means to follow Christ throughout Lent in preparation for the glorious celebration of Easter. The story of Bamboo in the Garden is a good illustration ofwhat the call of the Master, Jesus Christ, may entail and howmuch might be asked of us.Though we face struggle and even death, the promise of the Lenten season is new life and a return to the home where we truly belong. Each lesson in Walking the Journey of Lent: Reflections on the Scriptures for Cycle C is bolstered by opening and closing prayers, contextual scripture and discussion questions. Lessons Include: "Emptying Yourself Before the Lord" for Ash Wednesday "The Journey of Reconciliation" for Lent 4 "God Restores Us to Life" for Easter "What I find most valuable is Fr. Gribble's ability to find contemporary books or figures or situations that make his reflections quite concrete and easy to understand. It is an enviable gift for a homilist." - Fr. Bill Williams, Pastor of St. Peter Parish, Plymouth, MA "Through his use of real-life stories, engaging reflections, thought-provoking discussion questions, and opening and concluding prayers for each week, Fr. Gribble leads us to the conclusion of Lent where Jesus unchains us from the bondage of sin and we find theglory to which suffering leads us. Fr. Gribble's booklet will enhance the Lenten spiritual journeyof anyone seeking healing and new life in the risen Christ." - Fr. Jim Fenstermaker, C.S.C., Pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Easton, MA "If you are looking to deepen your relationship with the Lord this Lent, look no further. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing. -Joel 2:12-13 This famous passage of scripture proclaimed each Ash Wednesday provides the themes and sets the environment for the holy season of Lent. In its wisdom the Christian church provides its members a forty day period of preparation, emphasizing prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, for the great celebration of the Paschal Mystery, the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We who are privileged to bear the name Christian must use this annual time of renewal to reconnect ourselves to our God, the source of all that is good. Through a process of study, reflection, and discussion on the scripture passages that the church uses in its Sunday celebrations during this special time, an environment can be provided for us to discover and foster the renewal we all need. It is hoped that Walking the Journey of Lent: Reflections on the Scriptures for Cycle A provides this specific opportunity. This Lenten Bible study can be a helpful and effective way for groups and individuals to reflect upon the scriptures and through this process prepare ourselves better for the greatest of all celebrations, Easter, when Jesus rises from the dead and brings all Christians the possibility of salvation. Like any effort in life that is meritorious, this Bible study will require some effort, but it need not and should not be a burden. Rather, in sharing with others, and allowing the Spirit of God to flow through us, we can come to greater insights as to what the scriptures might mean for us and how, most importantly, we can apply them to our lives. Chapters Included: Negotiating The Hurdles Of Life Allowing God To Change Us Christ Gives Us Hope Seeking The Light Of Christ Jesus Unchains Us Richard Gribble, CSC, is a Catholic priest in the Congregation of Holy Cross. Download or read book Walking To Walking With Walking Through written by Glenn E. Ludwig and published by Css Publishing Company. This book was released on 1994 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Someday... Someday... perhaps the impact of God's grace and love and forgiveness will move us in the depths of our being to live the new life he offers for us. Someday. Maybe, this day. -- from the Lent 5 sermon Glenn E. Ludwig writes that Lent has often been called a journey, and what better metaphor to describe that journey than a "walk." We truly "walk to" Jerusalem in this season. But we do not walk alone, for we walk with One who calls us into discipleship. The author adds that these sermons invite us to walk with Jesus through death to life. The walk is a journey that changes our lives. The seventeen sermons in this book are based on gospel texts from Luke and John. Sermons follow the Revised Common Episcopal, Lutheran, and Roman Catholic lectionaries. Glenn E. Ludwig is senior pastor of First Lutheran Church, Elliot Chit, Maryland. He served as chaplain to Susquehanna University, his alma mater, for five years previously. He is the author of three books on youth ministry and has been a keynote speaker at over 100 youth events in the United States and Canada.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catholics welcome Lent each year with the solemn rituals of Ash Wednesday, marked by the visible signs of fasting, abstinence, prayer, and ashes. Thus begins the 40-day journey, culminating in the everlasting joy of the resurrection on Easter Sunday. Though often referred to as "the Lenten Season," each of these 40 days encourages us to look at our lives in light of both the struggles of the human condition and the immeasurable promise of everlasting life.Fr. Andrew Carl Wisdom, O.P., and Dominican friars of the Province of St. Albert the Great (the Central Province) commit their very lives to preaching the Gospel. This collection provides a convenient resource of reflections on the daily Lenten readings from friars across the province, some of whom have gone before us marked by the sign of faith. Fr. Wisdom accompanies these reflections with daily prayers, challenges he calls, "Doer of the Word Received," and simple hints to make our Lenten journey impactful, memorable, and personally transformative.Fr. Wisdom's thoughtfully composed prayers and the reflections of the friars lead us to not only better understand and seek the outstretched arms of Jesus on the cross crucified, but also anticipate the outstretched arms of our loving God waiting to embrace each of us despite our failings. From anecdotal challenges to realistic, practical hints, Fr. Wisdom guides the reader in prayer through each day in Lent. Mindful of the sins, faults, and shortcomings we all share, he affirms we should remain potently optimistic that the Son of God's life, death, and resurrection bring us all everlasting life. With these reflections, prayers, calls to action, and hints, comes a twist. Encouraged by the words of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, Growing in Friendship with God: Discovering the Joy of Lent are not words often associated with Lent. Yet, that is precisely what the season is all about. So take this book and open it every day during Lent to experience that joy and friendship.

Book Living Your Baptism in Lent

Download or read book Living Your Baptism in Lent written by Dennis Strach and published by Liturgy Training Publications. This book was released on 2022-03-03 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During Lent, the Church invites us to reflect on those times that we have turned away from God and consider how we can return to him in all we say and do. Living Your Baptism in Lent: Weekly Reflections for Your Journey helps readers respond to this invitation by reflecting on their relationship with God. Through the grace of our Baptism, we have become sons and daughters of God. As such, we are strengthened by the Holy Spirit to reject sin and choose instead to follow God. Each week, readers consider this choice as they reflect on the questions asked before Baptism. These questions, or baptismal promises, shape our understanding of what it means to live a Christian life. They call us to become witnesses of our faith to others, especially to those who are preparing to be baptized at the Easter Vigil. Our Lenten journey leads us to the celebration of Easter, where we renew our baptismal promises and rejoice in the salvation gained for us by Christ’s Resurrection. Each week’s reflection ends with questions and Scripture passages to use in individual prayer. A guide for leading small groups in these reflections is also included.
