The darkness growing inside of Aiden starts to change him, and every day the old Aiden disappears while the new aggressive and dangerous Aiden begins to take control and jeopardize everything and everyone important in his life. Things take a turn for the worse on his seventeenth birthday when he blacks out and wakes up to the aftermath of a rival team member's murder and the report of an intruder in Jasmine's home on the same night. Unable to recall what happened, Aiden becomes the prime suspect. With Tony knowing his dark secret and an FBI agent hot on his trail, Aiden has to figure out how to keep Tony from exposing him while staying one step ahead of the federal agent assigned to the case. In Genevieve Gornichec's A SHEEP AMONG WOLVES, depression and radicalization go hand-in-hand as a young woman finds companionship in the darkness... In Cassandra Khaw's FINE PRINT, an arrogant tech bro learns the importance of reading the fine print in the contract for immortality... And in Caitlin Starling's THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY, ideals and ethics bump heads with appetite on a blood farm. Three very different stories from three amazing, distinct voices, but all with one thing in common: the hunger never stops, and for someone to experience power, many others are going to have to feel pain.

Book Walking Shadows

Download or read book Walking Shadows written by Ib Johansen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-08-25 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walking Shadows focuses on the American fantastic and the American grotesque, attempting in this manner for the first time to establish an overview of and a theoretical approach to two literary modes that have often been regarded as essential to an understanding of the American cultural canon. The central importance of these two literary forms has been pointed out earlier by important theorists such as Stanley Cavell, David Reynolds, and William Van O’Connor. A number of literary works, from the beginning of the nineteenth to the end of the twentieth centuries, are taken up in order to illustrate the inherent links or family resemblances between the two modes, with special reference to the way in which a Bakhtinian reading may facilitate our appreciation of their status within the canon. These excursions into the House of Fantastic and Grotesque Fiction may be of interest not only to hardcore aficionados, but also to philosophically minded readers in general, in particular perhaps to those who have paid acute attention to debates on late twentieth and early twenty-first century post-structuralism and deconstruction (where the classic positions of Foucault, Derrida, et al. still appear to be relevant).

Book When God Walked Among the Nations

Download or read book When God Walked Among the Nations written by Michael F. Gleason and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-07-01 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following is a brief description of the prevailing spiritual and moral tides that were washing over much of Europe and America in the early eighteenth century—God’s “righteous name had been intolerably dishonored, his pure and holy word disregarded by incompetent or unconverted clergy, and the human family, created to glorify God and enjoy him forever, willfully and with abandon gave themselves to all manner of corruption.” These were despairing times—with striking similarities to our present day. And yet, in the midst of this seemingly hopeless era, the omnipotent God did what no man alone could accomplish: he restored the honor due to his great name, and exalted the power of his holy word through a revival that set ablaze two spiritually parched continents—God Walked Among the Nations! The pulpit was powerfully revived, men and women by the tens of thousands were soundly converted, and biblical renewal and social reformation flourished throughout the land. Do you wonder if a revival so vast in scope that it produces extraordinary biblical, moral, and social reformation throughout your nation is even possible? If you’re pondering this question, then it is time to read about the glorious event best known as the First Great Awakening and renew your hope.

Book excerpt: Gregory has lost interest in being alive. He’s been doing it for far too long. But dying is too much trouble, so he simply continues to exist in all his jaded, apathetic, eternal glory. In a hopeless attempt to find a diversion, he takes a night class at the local community college where he meets Nikki Christian. She seems to be everything he is not—young, open, honest, hopeful, charitable... the nauseating list goes on. However, Nikki is also overtly intuitive. She can see through lies and secrets in ways no human should, and Gregory has lots of secrets. Obviously, he should just eliminate her and be done with it. But there is something beguiling about a woman whose countenance shines like the sun in a world that’s gone dark.

Book Spirits Walk Among Us

Download or read book Spirits Walk Among Us written by Benita Glickman and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-31 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her latest memoir, Spirits Walk Among Us, Benita Glickman paints an open and honest account of love, loss, grief, and healing through insightful poetry and emotive vignettes. After thirty-eight loving years together, Benita’s beloved Joseph passed, leaving her to grapple with his death, look back at her life, and try to make sense of it all. “In life, Joseph had been my dream come true. Since his death, in dreams guided by him, I’m reminded of my chilling loss, and cling to our connection of eternal love.” This memoir is an affirmation of love and the instrumental role it plays in Benita’s ability to accept change, heal, and ultimately walk down a spiritual path. Joseph provides strength, hope, and guidance through dreams, visions, and signs from the Other Side. I’m leaving you in the sense of the dream must end, and I must go back home, but I’m not leaving you. The love we share is eternal. Nobody can take that from you. ...You’ll always carry me with you, right here, in your heart. Spirits Walk Among Us encourages you to reflect on your own life. You’ll smile, have goose bumps, and perhaps shed a few tears as you walk alongside Benita in her quest for healing and spiritual enlightenment.
