Now, the world as we know it will never be the same... Kitty Sugarman is a lot tougher than her name implies. Still, she's content with how her small- town life keeps her removed from all the changes happening in the world—like the Unveiling of the Others. That is, until a near-tragedy strikes and Kitty discovers she has abilities . . .thanks to a father she never knew was alive. He also happens to be a were-lion and leader of one of the most powerful Prides out West. WALK ON THE WILD SIDE When Kitty heads to Vegas to find out more about her father, it's his sexy, seductive second-in-command or baas of the Pride, Marcus Stewart, who commands her attention. Now that she has tempted Marcus's hunger for a mate, Kitty finds herself stuck in a vicious struggle for her father's fortune, while deadly unrest stirs within the pride. Kitty's rivals won't rest until she's gone for good, but Marcus will fight until his last breath to save her...even if it means going against the pride. Book Memoirs of My Life

Download or read book Memoirs of My Life written by John Charles Frémont and published by . This book was released on 1887 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his remarkable life, John Charles Frémont served as a senator for the newly-formed state of California, led Union troops in the Civil War, and was governor of the territory of Arizona. His race for the presidency in 1856 brought prestige to the fledgling Republican Party, yet despite his popularity, his uncompromising determination to abolish slavery cost him the election. For all of his experiences in politics and the military, it was the earlier decades of Frémont's life that were the most exciting. Shortly after graduating from college, he joined a mapping expedition and surveyed the hills of South Carolina and Tennessee for the government. Eager to continue exploring, Frémont went on five more expeditions to America west of the Appalachians during the years from 1839 to 1846. He traveled up the Missouri river, crossed the Rocky Mountains, and reached the West Coast on several journeys, often with his friend Kit Carson, the legendary mountain man. In Memoirs of My Life, Frémont recounts those years in the wilderness, encountering the fabulous landscapes and native people of America's interior before the westward expansion of the U. S. His journeys across the unmapped prairies, mountains, and deserts offer a wonderful glimpse of North America's natural grandeur in its original state.

Book My Life in the Red Army

Download or read book My Life in the Red Army written by Fred Virski and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-02-18 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Life in the Red Army chronicles Polish 19-year old Fred Virski's experiences as a drafted soldier in the Russian army during World War 2. With a wry tone rarely seen in a combat memoir, Virski describes the hardships, the near-starvation rations, the inadequate clothing, and his tense interactions with officers and agents of the NKVD (secret police). He is wounded twice; earns a Medal of Valor (which he later loses for insubordination); witnesses (and survives) atrocities committed by both the Germans and the Soviets; is branded a deserter; and somehow finds time to fall in love. A testimony to the will of the human spirit in face of impossible odds, My Life in the Red Army is a must read for fans of World War 2 biographies.

Book Redbuds Are Not Red

Download or read book Redbuds Are Not Red written by Carol Ison and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-11-07 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The redbud tree that is so prominent in the landscape of eastern Kentucky during the early spring when they are profusely blooming is something that “draws” people back to the mountains. “I want to come back when the redbuds are blooming” is a common refrain from many folks who want to come back home or a stranger who wants to just come and experience the beauty of the mountains. Yet the redbuds are not red; they are a deep pink, and neither are all of the natives of the Appalachian Mountains and the hills of eastern Kentucky lazy, illiterate, apathetic, drug addicts, and generally low-class citizens. But still this region is identified as being a society made up of these individuals. Redbuds Are Not Red is written to illustrate that just as the tree is known for its “red” name, there is a misconception about it. The same is true of the people who are perceived in a negative sense, and this story attempts to describe a region that has good people, respectable and honest people, who need to be seen through a different perspective. It is written to illustrate that despite the poverty, deprivation, and lack of many needed resources, there is a way of life here that is good, decent, and deserving of the same respect and acknowledgment as any other segment of this great nation. People can come out of these hardships and rise to positions of productivity, respectability, and prominence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Red Letter Revolution is about a global movement of Christians who are taking the actions of Jesus and his exact words—the “red letters” in some versions of the Bible—seriously. Colin challenges his readers to join this movement by responding to the poverty, racism, economic disparity, violence, classism, sexism and all other forms of injustice and oppression all around us like Jesus did. Through biblical exposition, rousing stories and practical application, Colin demonstrates that we can follow the radical words of Jesus only with the love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. This book draws our allegiance to the mission of Christ to the poor and oppressed and calls for us to act. It will truly challenge the way we view others and how we should respond to the oppression and injustice present in our world.
