Book Flow and Transport in the Natural Environment Advances and Applications

Download or read book Flow and Transport in the Natural Environment Advances and Applications written by William L. Steffen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume arises from an International Symposium on Flow and Transport in the Natural Environment held in Canberra, Australia, in September 1987. The meeting was hosted by the CSIRO Division of Environmental Mechanics (now the Centre for Environmental Mechanics) to mark the opening of the second stage of its headquarters, the F.C. Pye Field Environment Laboratory, twenty-one years after the opening of the first stage. Those twenty-one years have seen much progress in our understanding of the physics of the natural environment and the occasion provided an ideal opportunity to review advances in our knowledge of flow and transport phenomena, particularly with regard to flow and transport in soils, plants and the atmosphere. The contents of this volume are based very closely on the Symposium's program. Undoubtedly, our choices of topics were idiosyncratic, but we believe that those we have selected exhibit progress, innovation, and much scope for practical application. Rather than being encyclopaedic, we have sought to deal with thirteen selected topics in depth.

Book Basic Developments in Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Basic Developments in Fluid Dynamics written by Maurice Holt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic Developments in Fluid Dynamics, Volume 2 focuses on the developments, approaches, methodologies, reactions, and processes involved in fluid dynamics, including sea motion, wave interactions, and motion of spheres in a viscous fluid. The selection first offers information on inviscid cavity and wake flows and weak-interaction theory of ocean waves. Discussions focus on steady and unsteady cavity flows, radiation balance, theory of weak interactions in random fields, interactions between gravity waves and the atmosphere, and interactions within the ocean. The text then examines low Reynolds number flows, including fundamentals, expansion procedures, stokes in flow solutions, flows with a free surface, and compressible flows. The selection is a dependable source of information for graduate students, research workers, and readers interested in fluid dynamics.

This international symposium was organized jointly by the Office of Naval Research (Mechanics and Energy Conversion S&T Division), the National Research Council (Naval Studies Board), and the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (David Taylor Model Basin). This biennial symposium promotes the technical exchange of naval research developments of common interest to all the countries of the world. The forum encourages both formal and informal discussion of the presented papers, and the occasion provides an opportunity for direct communication between international peers.

Book Bluff Body Wakes Dynamics and Instabilities

Download or read book Bluff Body Wakes Dynamics and Instabilities written by Helmut Eckelmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bluff-body wakes play an important role in many fluid dynamics problems and engineering applications. This book gives and up-to-date account of recent results obtained in the study of bluff-body wakes. Experimental, theoretical and numerical approaches are all comprehensively covered and compared. Topics of particular interest include hydrodynamic instability analyses, three-dimensional pattern formation problems, flow control methods, bifurcation analyses, numerical simulations and turbulence modelling. The main originality of thisvolume is that recent conceptual advances made to describe nonlinear phenomena in general are put to the test on a classical problem in fundamental fluid mechanics, namely the wake structure generated behind a bluff object.

Book Theoretical Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Theoretical Fluid Dynamics written by Achim Feldmeier and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook gives an introduction to fluid dynamics based on flows for which analytical solutions exist, like individual vortices, vortex streets, vortex sheets, accretions disks, wakes, jets, cavities, shallow water waves, bores, tides, linear and non-linear free-surface waves, capillary waves, internal gravity waves and shocks. Advanced mathematical techniques ("calculus") are introduced and applied to obtain these solutions, mostly from complex function theory (Schwarz-Christoffel theorem and Wiener-Hopf technique), exterior calculus, singularity theory, asymptotic analysis, the theory of linear and nonlinear integral equations and the theory of characteristics. Many of the derivations, so far contained only in research journals, are made available here to a wider public.

Book FLUID MECHANICS OF AXISYMMETRIC WAKES BEHIND BODIES IN HYPERSONIC FLOW

Download or read book FLUID MECHANICS OF AXISYMMETRIC WAKES BEHIND BODIES IN HYPERSONIC FLOW written by and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of the fluid mechanics of wakes behind bodies in hypersonic flow is presented. The models used for idealizing both the flow field and the chemistry of air are discussed first. The fluid mechanics of the wake itself is then shown to be describable in terms of transformed coordinates which are applicable to both laminar and turbulent wakes. The transformation to the physical plane requires description of the transport properties of the gas; these are therefore discussed next. In this connection a rational means for estimating the turbulence transport properties is described. Finally, there are presented the results of numerical analysis of four cases which appear to lead to the highest concentration of electrons in the wake and of the initial conditions for a boundary layer induced wake.
