Book excerpt: NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL FILM! When a soldier with a troubled past and a struggling songwriter agree to a marriage of convenience for the military benefits, neither expects much after saying “I do.” Then tragedy strikes, and the line between what’s real and what’s pretend begins to blur in this smart and surprising romance perfect for fans of Nicholas Sparks and Jojo Moyes. Cassie Salazar and Luke Morrow couldn’t be more different. Sharp-witted Cassie works nights at a bar in Austin, Texas to make ends meet while pursuing her dream of becoming a singer/songwriter. Luke is an Army trainee, about to ship out for duty, who finds comfort in the unswerving discipline of service. But a chance encounter at Cassie’s bar changes the course of both their lives. Cassie is drowning in medical bills after being diagnosed with diabetes. When she runs into her old friend Frankie, now enlisted in the Army, she proposes a deal: she’ll marry him in exchange for better medical insurance and they can split the increased paycheck that comes with having a “family.” When Frankie declines, his attractive but frustratingly intense friend Luke volunteers to marry Cassie instead. What she doesn’t know is that he has desperate reasons of his own to get married. In this unforgettable love story, Cassie and Luke must set aside their differences to make it look like a real marriage...unless, somewhere along the way, it becomes one...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Callous Disregard is the account of how a doctor confronted first a disease and then the medical system that sought and still seeks to deny that disease, leaving millions of children to suffer and a world at risk. In 1995, Dr. Andrew Wakefield came to a fork in the road. As an academic gastroenterologist at the Royal Free School of Medicine and the University of London, he was confronted by a professional challenge and a moral choice. Previously healthy children were, according to their parents, regressing into autism and developing intestinal problems. Many parents blamed the MMR vaccine. Trusting his medical training, the parental narrative, and, above all, the instinct of mothers for their children?s well-being, he chose what would become a very difficult road. Dr. Wakefield provides the facts and an explanation of the problem that confronted him and his colleagues fifteen years ago. He does this in a detailed forensic analysis of the lies, obfuscation, cover-up, and dystopian science and medicine that panders to commercial interests at the expense of your children.

Book Enhanced Preliminary Assessment Report Wakefield Army Housing Units Wakefield Massachusetts

Download or read book Enhanced Preliminary Assessment Report Wakefield Army Housing Units Wakefield Massachusetts written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Argonne National Laboratory has conducted an enhanced preliminary assessment of the Army housing property located in Wakefield, MA. The objective of this assessment include identifying and characterizing all environmentally significant operations, identifying areas of environmental contamination that may require immediate remedial actions, identifying other actions which may be necessary to resolve all identified environmental problems, and identifying other environmental concerns that may present impediments to the expeditious sale of this property. The Wakefield housing area presents no imminent or substantial threat to human health or the environment. There is no evidence to suggest that hazardous or toxic constituents have been released during site investigation none was identified. This property was originally developed in conjunction with a Nike missile antiaircraft battery located in Wakefield, Mass. However, no wastes associated with the operation and maintenance of the missile- launch and tracking systems have ever been delivered to or managed at this housing property. Based on a review of both historical and current practices at the property, the Wakefield housing area is therefore considered to pose minimal threat to human health or the environment. No immediate remedial actions are warranted for this site. This conclusion is based on the assumption that this property will most likely continue to be used for residential housing. (KT).

Book The Oxford Handbook of Mood Disorders

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Mood Disorders written by Robert J. DeRubeis and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-04-24 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most comprehensive volume of its kind, The Oxford Handbook of Mood Disorders provides detailed coverage of the characterization, understanding, and treatment of mood disorders. Chapters are written by the world's leading experts in their respective areas. The Handbook provides coverage of unipolar depression, bipolar disorder, and variants of these disorders. Current approaches to classifying the mood disorders are reviewed and contemporary controversies are placed in historical context. Chapter authors offer a variety of approaches to understanding the heterogeneity of the experiences of those who meet criteria for mood disorders, both within and across cultures. The role of genetic and environmental risk factors as well as premorbid personality and cognitive processes in the development of mood pathology are detailed. Interpersonal, neurobiological, and psychological factors also receive detailed consideration. The volume reviews mood disorders in special populations (e.g., postpartum and seasonal mood disorders) as well as common comorbidities (e.g., anxiety, substance use disorders). Somatic and psychosocial treatment approaches receive in-depth coverage with chapters that describe and review empirical evidence regarding each of the most influential treatment approaches. The depth and breadth offered by this Handbook make it an invaluable resource for clinicians and researchers, as well as scholars and students.
