Book excerpt: Did somebody do you wrong? Did somebody screw you over? Having problems with an ex-lover? A co-worker? A family relation? A mean boss? A rival? A business relation? A stalker? A bully? Put a voodoo curse on that person and move on with your life. Voodoo traditions are ideal for making dark, powerful curses. We Voodoo-practitioners are not burdened by Christian principles of forgiveness; We don't talk about 'turning the other cheek'. We're not burdened by Buddhist principles of lofty, noble, all-knowing aloofness. We don't see any value in postponing revenge [or 'pay-back'] for another lifetime, like Hindus. This exciting book gives you twenty do-it-yourself voodoo curses that you can use against your enemies. Planning a party? Forget about Trivial Pursuits, Scrabble and card-games; No modern party is complete without a little voodoo-curse ceremony. But these are serious curses, not for the faint-of-heart.

I compiled this Book of Shadows from a collection of spells I have been using since I started down my path. This book contains over 100 spells, a list of runes, how they can be used in spell casting and even crafting your own spells. I've collected these spells from several different sources, mostly from witches I have met in my travels and covens I have been a part of. I've tweaked a few of these spells to fit my needs from time to time and you can do the same as the words aren't what give the spells power, your energy is what really matters, so feel free to do the same and change what you want to suit your own needs. The craft of Magic is a constant fluctuating living thing and our ancestors have borrowed, changed, and made from scratch what we practice today. I hope this book helps you grow as a person and a spellcrafter. -Brittany Nightshade-Brittany Nightshade

Book Voodoo the History of a Racial Slur

    Book Details:

  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2023-08-22
  • ISBN : 019768940X

Download or read book Voodoo the History of a Racial Slur written by Associate Professor of Africana Studies Danielle N Boaz and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-08-22 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coined in the middle of the nineteenth century, the term "voodoo" has been deployed largely by people in the U.S. to refer to spiritual practices--real or imagined--among people of African descent. "Voodoo" is one way that white people have invoked their anxieties and stereotypes about Black people--to call them uncivilized, superstitious, hypersexual, violent, and cannibalistic. In this book, Danielle Boaz explores public perceptions of "voodoo" as they have varied over time, with an emphasis on the intricate connection between stereotypes of "voodoo" and debates about race and human rights. The term has its roots in the U.S. Civil War in the 1860s, especially following the Union takeover of New Orleans, when it was used to propagate the idea that Black Americans held certain "superstitions" that allegedly proved that they were unprepared for freedom, the right to vote, and the ability to hold public office. Similar stereotypes were later extended to Cuba and Haiti in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In the 1930s, Black religious movements like the Moorish Science Temple and the Nation of Islam were derided as "voodoo cults." More recently, ideas about "voodoo" have shaped U.S. policies toward Haitian immigrants in the 1980s, and international responses to rituals to bind Nigerian women to human traffickers in the twenty-first century. Drawing on newspapers, travelogues, magazines, legal documents, and books, Boaz shows that the term "voodoo" has often been a tool of racism, colonialism, and oppression.
