Download or read book The Training of Isabella I of Castile as the Virgin Mary by Churchman Martin de Cordoba in 1468 written by Govert Westerveld and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-08-26 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today most chess historians agree that the weak chess queen, named "dame" in France as from the XIV century, changed to a powerful chess queen in Spain in 1475. Around this year we also see a change of the weak bishop to a strong bishop, according to the chess poem Scachs d'amor. In order to strengthen our hypothesis of Isabella I of Castile (Isabel la Católica) we have written a book about the new bishop and a book about Scachs d'amor in English. Concentrating now on Virgin Mary in relationship with Isabella I of Castile we observe that the Augustinian monastic Martin de Córdoba wrote in 1468 the work El Jardin de las donzellas. It was directed to Princess Isabel I of Castile with the intention to contribute to her education as future Queen. Cordoba was the first writer who draws equivalencies between Isabella I of Castile and Virgin Mary, which became one of her standard portrayals. Shorty thereafter we see the appearance of a new powerful chess queen.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reinforces our knowledge and understanding of the problems involved in balancing human rights protection and security concerns, considering how these human rights issues have been raised by the various international debates and policy issues which have been created by the continuing global war on terrorism. In the shadow of 9/11 the threat of terrorism is an ever increasing global preoccupation. Terrorism and Human Rights discusses the effects of the legal and social aspects of terrorism by examining the relation between security issues and human rights from the angle of international organizations, political bodies and different countries. Some of the examples covered and which are examined in light of their approach and reaction to terrorism include the European Union, the UN, Russia and the United States. Previously published as a special issue of Terrorism and Political Violence, this volume will be useful for all students of security, politics and terrorism studies, but also for policy makers, legislators, and law enforcers.

Download or read book The Enigmatic Netherworld Books of the Solar Osirian Unity written by John Coleman Darnell and published by Saint-Paul. This book was released on 2004 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Egypt, from the Old to the New Kingdom, enigmatic texts were created on the basis of non-standardized lists of characters and phonetic signs, the exact principles of which are still unclear to this day. For the first time, this study examines in detail the three most comprehensive known inscription texts from the New Kingdom, which were discovered in the tombs of Tutenchamun, Ramses VI and Ramses IX. Darnell shows that these three texts have a theological, iconographic and formal connection, and calls them collectively the "Book of the Solar-Osirian Unity". Differentiated and lively, he presents the content and theological peculiarities of these texts that deal with the afterlife with each other and in relation to other enigmatic texts of the new as well as the Middle and Old Kingdom.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Next to speech and writing, symbols offer an important as well as historically and culturally diversified means of communication. Symbols can be found in textual imagery, but also in paintings, printed images, emblems, heraldic images, and, on a more complex level, in tableaux vivants and in the gestures, homages and courtesies of formalised royal and princely demeanour, usually displayed on special occasions when the communication between the rulers and their people, through the symbols of rulership, has acquired maximum political and social momentum. The forms of symbolic communication dealt with in the present collection of essays therefore rely on determinate signification by means of convention rather than on private symbols. This collection highlights a limited number of themes relative to late medieval and early modern culture with a special focus on the symbols of rulership.

Download or read book The Ancient Egyptian Netherworld Books written by John Coleman Darnell and published by SBL Press. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first, complete English translation of the ancient Egyptian Netherworld Books The ancient Egyptian Netherworld Books, important compositions that decorated the New Kingdom royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, present humanity's oldest surviving attempts to provide a scientific map of the unseen realms beyond the visible cosmos and contain imagery and annotations that represent ancient Egyptian speculation (essentially philosophical and theological) about the events of the solar journey through the twelve hours of the night. The Netherworld Books describe one of the central mysteries of Egyptian religious belief—the union of the solar god Re with the underworldly god Osiris—and provide information on aspects of Egyptian theology and cosmography not present in the now more widely read Book of the Dead. Numerous illustrations provide overview images and individual scenes from each Netherworld Book, emphasizing the unity of text and image within the compositions. The major texts translated include the Book of Adoring Re in the West (the Litany of Re), the Book of the Hidden Chamber (Amduat), the Book of Gates, the Book of Caverns, the Books of the Creation of the Solar Disk, and the Books of the Solar-Osirian Unity. Features: Accessible presentations of the main concepts of the Netherworld Books and the chief features of each text Notes and commentary address major theological themes within the texts as well as lexicographic and/or grammatical issues An overview of later uses of these compositions during the first millennium BCE
