Book The Declaration of Independents

Download or read book The Declaration of Independents written by Nick Gillespie and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2012-06-26 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everywhere in America, the forces of digitization, innovation, and personalization are expanding our options and bettering the way we live. Everywhere, that is, except in our politics. There we are held hostage to an eighteenth century system, dominated by two political parties whose ever-more-polarized rhetorical positions mask a mutual interest in maintaining a stranglehold on power. The Declaration of Independents is a compelling and extremely entertaining manifesto on behalf of a system better suited to the future--one structured by the essential libertarian principles of free minds and free markets. Gillespie and Welch profile libertarian innovators, identify the villains propping up the ancien regime, and take aim at do-something government policies that hurt most of those they claim to protect. Their vision will resonate with a wide swath of frustrated citizens and young voters, born after the Cold War's end, to whom old tribal allegiances, prejudices, and hang-ups about everything from hearing a foreign language on the street to gay marriage to drug use simply do not make sense.

Book Grow and Hide

    Book Details:
  • Author : Colleen M. Grogan
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2023
  • ISBN : 0199812233
  • Pages : 449 pages

Download or read book Grow and Hide written by Colleen M. Grogan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The public health care state has developed as completely decentralized, in collaboration with voluntary organizations, and under the banner of "non-political" scientific agencies. The early history of this system explains how and why public health leaders were able to hide its growth in later periods. Understanding this foundational history is important for three reasons. First, the state-voluntary collaboration shaped the U.S. health care system, leaving it fragmented and unequal. Second, leaders in the public health coalition characterized the state's close collaboration with the voluntary sector as "private provision," abetting the beginning of the American Myth and setting the stage for grow-and-hide. And third, this formative history provides insight as to why the mixture of public and private "has been so ubiquitous in American history as to be almost invisible.""--

Book Devouring Freedom

Download or read book Devouring Freedom written by W. James Antle and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-03-18 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government keeps growing, while our freedoms—and pocketbooks—keep shrinking. As America faces another four years of radical government expansion, columnist James Antle asks in Devouring Freedom, “Can big government ever be stopped?” It’s a problem that’s been fed from both sides of the aisle as politicians for generations have tried to buy their own job security with hand-outs and programs, platitudes and government-subsidized loans. James Antle examines the addition both parties have to bigger spending, bigger government programs, bigger intrusion into our lives and bigger dependency on the nanny state, as he examines how an ever-expanding government inevitably leads to less prosperity, less independence, less ingenuity, less growth, and far less liberty. Devouring Freedom is the book for anyone who believes that Obama’s second term is just the latest installment in the long obituary for American liberty. And it’s the book for anyone who’s ever asked, “Is it too late to turn the ship around?”
